Your four "one letter difference" types

Ok, I know that the types most similar to each other are based on cognitive functions and all of that, and I know that changing just one letter of your type doesn't make another type automatically really similar to yours.

But this isn't that serious of a thread, just something I'm curious about: What do you think about each of the four types that are the same as yours except one of the letters is the opposite? You can say anything you want about each of the four, but maybe you could say which one you like or relate to the most and which one you like or relate to the least. I was just curious about how different people view the each of those types.

So for me, since I'm ISFJ:

ESFJ: I actually don't know any sure-fire ESFJ's, though I think some co-workers of mine are ESFJ's. I always picture ESFJ's as very motherly types...the co-workers I know are female a good bit older than me. I think ESFJ's are really good at making me feel comfortable and setting my mind at ease....they're really good at taking over a situation where I don't know what to do. However, I don't think I would like them as friends much...probably too over-whelming for me. I think I relate to them the least out of the four.

INFJ: I only know one sure-fire INFJ, and she's a really good friend to me. I feel so comfortable opening up to her and telling her any problems I'm having, or personal things about myself. She's actually very similar to me, though more dreamy and a deeper thinker than I am. But even though they're kind of mysterious to me in a lot of ways, I really like INFJ's and they're very calming to me.

ISTJ: Since ISTJ's share the same Si dominant function as ISFJ's, I naturally relate to ISTJ's very well. My mom is one, and I'm extremely close to her. I also get along really well with the ISTJ's on this board. They may be a little colder and more reserved than me, but they're friendly enough and I love their simplicity. It's funny, because usually I feel like the thinker/feeler difference is the biggest one for me and thinkers usually intimidate me. But because we have so much in common, I think I actually understand and relate to ISTJ's the most out of the four.

ISFP: Unfortunately, I don't know any ISFP's in real life, only one online ISFP friend. But from my experience I really like ISFP's! They're like me, but just more relaxed and fun loving. Still very calm, quiet and sensitive, but not as uptight as I am. The only problem is I feel like they're so mysterious and hard to pin down, and like I said, I just can't find them!

I like and respect ENTJs and INTPs. I don't think I've met any ISTJs or INFJs.

    ISTP - The Mechanics

    Well, I'm an ISTP.

ISTJ: Both my dad and my grandmother are ISTJs though my dad has low J and my grandmother has high J. My dad can actually be pretty cool when he leans more towards ISTP and we can have fun together, but in general, he can be really annoying/control-freakish so he really annoys me. My grandmother and I though get along great. We constantly tease each other and out of everyone on that side of the family, we seem to understand each other the most and we seem to be the only ones who can get along without arguing in a family of hotheads.

ISFP: I think my mom might have been an ISFP with low S and was a 2w1. I loved how artistic she was and I got along with her great. When I was young, we would often just talk for hours and I could tell her anything. We seemed to balance each other a bit since I was into artistic stuff a bit but being Ti dominant, I was more into stuff like puzzles so we'd often do those together.

INTP: I actually enjoy being around INTPs. I can actually have interesting conversations with them and find it satisfies my Ti a lot being around them because then I can actually have intellectual/real conversations with them. We tend to balance each other out pretty well because we can easily go from having deep/intellectual conversations to running around doing stuff. My best friend from grade 6-8 was actually an INTP and we were inseparable. Even the teachers would place us next to each other whenever they switched seats. We could easily go from me helping him with school because he was still learning English to me dragging him around and just having fun.

ESTP: I get along with them even more than INTPs. Whenever my STP and 7w8 fix kick in, I know I can always turn to them for some fun. I find that they actually have more depth than people perceive them as having which makes for fun discussions since the last 3 letters are the same. Two of my best friends are actually ESTPs with one of them being my ex and we always have fun together. One thing I really like about them is that I find it easy to communicate with them when there's a problem so we can find a solution easily since we both understand where the other's coming from.

    Let's see, as an INFP...

ENFP: I'm not really sure if I know an ENFP or not. Oddly enough, I'm having trouble typing my best friend who is probably either ENFP, ISFP, or ISFJ. Regardless, ENFPs would probably be cool to know. Assuming they're not utterly flighty and/or loud...

ISFP: Again, not sure if I know one. We'd probably get along pretty well, the ISFP being more action-oriented than me. Sometimes I need someone to get me out of my shell. I imagine as a fellow introvert, they'd be more understanding of my required alone time. (Or I could be wrong about all of it.)

INTP: I've known two INTPs and I've liked both of them. We get along pretty well and tend to offset each other in a good way. However, our conversations are either really boring or really interesting without much in-between. An INFP/INTP debate is actually pretty fun provided both sides know it's not completely serious, and I usually hate arguing.

INFJ: I only know one. He and I are really close, but we don't talk much... which makes for a slightly strange dynamic. Still, he's a great guy and I wouldn't trade him for much of anything. He's deeper than I am, more protectory and people-oriented. We can depend on each other a lot, at least for emotional aide. Our arguments, while rare, tend to flare up because we both believe deeply in things (him in more things than me). Mostly it's an Fi/Fe clash. Otherwise, we get along really, really well.

    ENFP - The Inspirers

INFP - I love them, though my only INFP friends are online. We really get each other, and converse well, though they seem much more content to be solitary than I am and some seem a little more drawn to sad things than I am, but they make me feel at ease. :)

ESFP - I dated one once and I believe my coworker is one as well (or an ESTP, I can't deside) they're definitely very fun and social. I enjoy them but in smaller doses. At least the ones I've personally known, who were hard parties and very much into the club scene which isn't my style. THey love to be center of attention, and so do I, so sometimes I feel a bit comeptative.

ENTP - I have a couple ENTP friends and I love them. They're entertaining and fun. I just have to be sure not to bring up anything they find controversial unless I'm prepared for a long discussion!

ENFJ - I'm not sure if I know any.....they seem nice from what I read though...

ENFP - My favorite type and I know several of them. None of them is a close friend but with them I have the most interesting discussions, craziest thoughts and funniest jokes. With them I feel like I can be myself and I love how they also have their emotional problems (I don't mean that I love it when people have emotional problems but it's nice when you're not the only one obsessing about emotions).

ISFP - I know few. We aren't particulalry close and I'm not that interested in interacting with them. They are nice though and I like them because they are so calm and gentle. They all have an interest in art and that's allways a good topic for discussion however I feel that we view everything from a very different angle and I don't feel that sort of strong mental connection.

INTP - I know one. He seems to be attracted to my dark and sarcastic side but since I'm trying to nowadays develop my light and happy side I'm not so drawn to him. I think he's a bit too ridig with his tendency to always follow logic no matter what and I also fear a little that he sees me somehow stupid because I don't follow logic same way he does.

INFJ - Oh god, this type tends to my biggest source of happiness and sadness. My best friend is one and I also had another close friend of this type. We both seem to be very drawn to people and abstraction. We have very good discussions and with them I feel like I can share my innermost feelings... however their inability to see varying sides of an issue and their obsession with keeping up appearances drives me crazy.

Good idea for a thread. Well here goes on the generalizations:

INFP: I like them a lot, they are emotionally intense(good and bad), they can make me question how I really feel about something and I like that, they are open and relaxed but a bit internally conflicted. I love their live and let live attitude, everybody is an equal stuff (just sometimes some are more equal than others, lol) also very creative and like talking about all kinds of stuff and are quite accommodating but can be argumentative. 2

ISFJ: Friendly people I think but I feel they might be a little highly strung and overworked which makes me feel anxious and torn to do anything about. Very traditional, accommodating and caring. I know at least 1 and she's a lovely person but has become very ill through stress and other things over the years, I feel really sad for her. I'm sure I know another one and shes a bit different, far more guarded, very sensitive under the stubbornness but traditional and very caring, both are very family oriented and love kids. They make me feel a bit conflicted to be fair but I get on with them very well.

ENFJ: Not sure I know any but I think they are probably very friendly maybe overbearingly so. They seem to enjoy being with people and caring for them, which is a nice thing but I do get the feeling of manipulation going on but probably not for bad reasons. Least connected maybe because I don't really know one.

INTJ: Love them, they are so damn cute and cuddly but I wouldn't feel comfortable hugging a rock. They are stubborn, don't communicate in a personal manner very well, are more guarded then me and are usually highly cynical. But they are funny sometimes unintentionally, cute, intelligent and surprisingly open to strange and unusual ideas, also quite creative. They also care about people more than they are given credit for. Most connected but in a strange paradoxical way.

    L'Empereur thanked this post.

ISFP: I know one, she's crazy! I find her very similar to me, except more openly 'out there'. Very artistic, of course. Very spontaneous, though sensitive and she goes off on emotional tangents some times.

INFJ: My best friend is an INFJ. She's like Ghandi, or Buddha, or Jesus. Okay, i'm exagerating! But she is always calm and collected, despite having a hormonal disorder. She's also always kind, generous and wise beyond her years. I consider her an idealized version of myself.

ENFP: I know 3 or 4 ENFPs. They're great, fun, sensitive, and just generally awesome. Also, they love me. And I love them back. <3

INTP: I don't know any, but I'm on the F/T line, so I think we'd get along very well.

Great responses everyone...I in particular like seeing how different types comment differently on another type that they have a different letter in common with (if that makes any sense).

Ha ha...I have trouble picturing any NT type as getting any pleasure from being referred to as cute. I picture them glaring darkly at anyone who ever refers to them as such. :p

Thats when you send in the cavalry of compliments and infantry of whimsy before taking their flag and locking it away in your heart. There is no defense against that.
