    I've been playing it on an Android phone already using an emulator. What exactly has changed?

    It's the code for the game. You can make your own game using Super Mario 64 as a base.

    You can make it run natively, not emulated, and do things with it that aren't possible on the Nintendo 64. (DLC, modern graphics, etc.)

    There is an PS2 game that I would get very excited if it were to receive the same treatment and ported to the pc with modern graphics as well some additions that were left out as it didn't really get finished to what the developers had wanted.

    The reddit threads linked were discussing an early leak of the project. It's been publicly released on GitHub now:

    https://github.com/n64decomp/sm64

    No copyrighted assets are there. Just the reverse-engineered code. You need to extract the assets with a script provided.
