Blessing / Cleansing a Home

My Dearest INFJ's,

I have been trying to complete this for a month now, I start writing and then, back out... and finally, today have the courage to ask. What exactly is a Blessing/Cleansing of your home? --- And does it really work?

(I don't really want to share to details, as I'm sure you would understand. It's a private matter.) But, I really need some good old-fashioned honest answers because I am nervous about the process and how exactly to explain it to others. --- We had a six member team visit our home and they want to complete a blessing/cleansing of the home on Saturday.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and understanding to the "sensitive nature" of this request. Yes, I am uncomfortable.

My family's Catholic and my dad often gets asked to do this for people's homes. I've never heard of atheists(?) doing it. It's just a prayer that you say as you go round the house. I believe you douse each room with holy water. We have a big book of prayers, but I know in witchcraft you can create your own (spells).

Just last week actually my parents went to a family's home, and there was a poltergeist. Our friend, a priest, was in town, so we had him do the blessing instead. I didn't get to go.. My mother said I would get annoyed because they were going to do karaoke right after and not come home for a long time XD (I wanted to see the ghost(s)).

And does it really work?
If you believe it works, it works I suppose..(?) like a placebo. Also some people are raised around all these sort of rituals, and I can understand it to be hard if one doesn't do it. It gives them peace of mind.

I'd say it's really no different to a housewarming party.

That's very interesting... Is it serious? The spirits at this family's home seem pretty harmless. Nothing gets moved, there are just sounds. Like once after dinner they ran into the living room to catch something on TV. They left their dishes on the table.. and they heard someone cleaning everything up, the silverware etc. and when they went back to the dining room, nothing was touched. It was just a sound. Their little son also laughs sometimes by himself like he's playing with someone. The family told them that if they didn't harm anyone, that they could stay. So they have decided to just live with them since they moved in and it has been fine.

Well... I called my mother and she said the blessing had nothing to do with the ghosts. It was just for the house, a message warding off evil etc. In Japan, they also add in a blessing of good fortune and I believe they spill beans outside.

My mother said that to remove the ghost you would have to use a particular person. She couldn't think of what to call it.. but she mentioned a TV series, Ghost whisperer (lol), and a character in it who is able to sense and commune with spirits. This I think could solve your situation with the conflicting faiths in your family...since this doesn't really have to tie in with religion (in my opinion). I actually had the idea of visiting the house, so that I could do something myself. I'm not psychic though... But if you do have a psychic friend, even if this friend is in another country, they should still be able to see what's going on since there is no time & space barrier with this kind of thing.

You're welcome  I guess the only faith would be that whatever they do would work out in the end. It does seem trustworthy since they are doing a lot of tests than going by superstition. I would love to hear what happens on Sunday, if they are still there~

That's great^^ Honestly my parents wouldn't know how to explain it either. They say it's a 'spirit' but they don't clarify if it is a soul trapped between two worlds, or if it is just remnants of energy/memories that someone has left behind, or anything else... And I'm glad that they are so open to it.
My family has a long history of ghost stories, but I've never been told of any experience like yours. It's interesting that when I read about stories like this, it's only in the States or in the UK.. where it gets to the point that people want to ask for help, but in my parents' country, people seem to just live with them, as if they are seen as visitors and events never get too disturbing. My parents are different in that sense.. like when it comes to this kind of topic, it doesn't quite fit in with religion. We may be very connected with the church but there are also cultural beliefs that come from the mother country..and they sort of get meshed together. Like, if I translate some of the words my parents use, I might come up with something close to "dwarf" or even "mermaid." ^^ My dad lived most of his childhood in a very remote and poor area, and he would say that many times people would just go to the Witch doctor because they couldn't afford to travel to a hospital and also the medicine --and he has a lot of stories about people being cured by odd rituals and things. Technically this is taboo at the church but my parents are pretty accepting...

I don't really have any answers myself but I am working towards it. Just to get into a little more what I wrote here
It does seem trustworthy since they are doing a lot of tests than going by superstition.
Since we're dealing with something in the non-physical, there comes a lot more variables.. and you have things to fiddle with, like subjective and objective realities which can get mixed together. And by objective, I mean the world that you share with other people. In the physical world, they are fairly separate. But like in the Rarity of Male INFJs thread some people don't believe they are so rare because there are so many of them in their own lives, but they have to look outside of themselves to really compare, if it is true.
That place you go to when you dream at night.. I don't know about you, but it is sometimes very real for me, I have the sense of smell and touch. I can eat things. And you know you're not using your physical eyes, body, etc to do that. My dreams also have symbolic content. My last dream I was visited by my sister but she was in my older brother's body when he was age 7. Looked like my brother, but I knew it was my sister. This has meaning for me (not going to say what it is here lol)... and this is "subjective". Nobody else could understand, or use the same language
So it's good that you have two sensitives there. When one 'sees' something, then the other can confirm if they see the same thing. And there is this feedback..for proof. I have to do this a lot too when I have 'experiences'. ^^I don't want to just go for the belief.. And I think this is what's meant by 'science'... (But I don't mean to say subjective is less important..It always depends)

Anyway I'd be scared too :p That shadow thing gives me the creeps. The scariest thing about my parents' friends' experiences is that sometimes when you close the door, someone comes and tries to shake the doorknob..like they are trying to get in. <_<

Just as an example of what the subjective could be used for.. There are many cases of people being visited by 'angels' or monsters or weird objects (in dreams and also during the waking hour) --in these, it's not always relevant to recognize whether it is real or not.. It's more about a message they're sending. At times, asking yourself, "What could I learn from this? How can I grow? What does this mean for me?" I have some experiences myself that I'd searched online but I never found anyone with a similar experience. In the end it directed me to something I've been 'asking' for... And yea, one could say it's all in my head, and that even maybe my mind was what made the vision in the first place, but it doesn't really matter because it led me where I needed/wanted to be. Plus, I think we INFJs know well there is more to the mind than what we consciously think about.. Ni.. it's capable of so many things and exists in many levels.
So in your case it's definitely not your imagination.. but the experience probably helps you all in some way also (though I'm really sorry your children sound traumatized. I love ghost stories but I don't think I could handle this myself). I too don't know why they are able to close doors and why you are able to record their voices on tape. These kinds of things make it seem they still have a physical body. Based on what I've read so far they shouldn't be 'allowed' to even do that...but this sentence is going too far lol XD

I do feel that in the near future, all this.. including topics on ESP etc..will be part of everyday life. I think it already is, but it's more underground or.. well you easily come across it, online especially, if you are into those topics. I don't actually research ghosts, but what I'm into is part of that whole non-physical.. the "mind" (for lack of better term)... and they are all connected there. I mean there are exercises in increasing even intuition and I find that they do work, so we can all do this and have access.. and it is real. It's just something maybe forgotten and needs to be practiced to gain back the abilities.
Just to feed your curiosity if you like :p, I'd recommend reading about the physicist Thomas Campbell. He has a lot of videos on youtube and also a forum. I think you would find him trustworthy...
