I got a free supplement of creatine monohydrate and was just wondering how it's used/any possible effects etc, especially if you have used it yourself!

It's used like a daily supplement, before or after working out but you have to take it consistently for it to work as it has to fill your muscle stores to give you benefits. Creatine works well and results in better workouts and better lean mass gains but because it binds water it also makes you a bit puffy at your muscles. The water goes away after you stop taking it and you get to keep your muscle mass. What are your goals?

Thanks very much! My goals are just improving my general health, stamina and strength overall - I like being very functional and capable! It sounds interesting, so youd use it for a while then stop? How long and how much is generally good?

Creatine is best used for bulking = increasing muscle mass. I don't know how to take it specifically because it's not something I use and probably won't for the time being, though if I had a chance with a freebee I probably would. Just focus on strength workouts and gaining some weight (muscle) otherwise it will just go to waste. I think this site may have some good info on how to take it specifically, but as I don't delve into this territory much I can't vouch for it https://www.muscleandstrength.com/expert-guides/creatine-monohydrate

Oh thanks, very interesting! I may well give it a try, as I'm a bit underweight anyway! The site seems pretty good, even looking at the effects on women which is useful (most supplement sites look only at men which is frustrating - men and women are so different biologically you can't assume the same for both)
