David Allen's Getting Things Done. Have any INTPs here implemented it?

9217 Views 36 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  nichya
I've been reading David Allen's book on and off for the past couple weeks. I'm at the point we're I definitely need to start implementing a system. There's a lot of people that have had success implementing it.

David has claimed to be an INTP, so his way of doing things might be ideal.

Just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with his system...

What about socks and shoes to go to the shop to get the toilet paper?
I think I wore flip flops that day.

Нет!

You just think you're funny.

I always wear flip flops or shoes. I would never let my feet touch those dirty store parking lots.

Of course.

And I always make sure my shirt buttons are aligned and I'm not wearing my shirt on backwards or inside out before I leave the house.

Touché.

I miss having a "project associate" to whom I could delegate all the boring stuff...
I haven't read the book, but I try and write to-do lists and I'm starting to use my phone for notes etc. I often find though that I'll make a to-do list and then never look at it again, because I just remember to do things in any case. Definitely getting better with note-keeping though.

I like the idea of lists, but have limited success with them myself. Perhaps I just need to get used to it.

Haha. I'm at the point where I'm debating hiring some to do the boring stuff. The problem is, they would probably do more work than me, which doesn't feel right. Maybe I shouldn't care about how it feels haha.

Wait, isn't that the point of having an associate or assistant? Anyway, it's not necessarily about quantity. You hire someone to do the work that feels like work. You know, things like triple-checking data, finding statistics and booking flights.
Naturally, you should leave the fun stuff to yourself.

And don't worry about it not feeling right. You're giving someone a job in tough economic times.

Very good points. Especially about providing a job. I think I have some preconceived notion against it since I was brought up in a blue collar town that glorifies "hard work." I've shifted that mindset, but it's tough when every around you still has it.

Awesome, yeah this is pretty similar to David Allen's GTD method. I think the whole idea of making sure everything is written down and put in a central location really helps clear the mind and allows us to continue thinking more and worrying less. And it will lower stress levels because things aren't being forgotten.
I reallllllly like this, I lose track of thoughts, even really important ones from day to day and when they're gone there's no getting them back.

Haven't heard of the book but I need to implement a system.

I went from being top in my class to the resident f*ck up in about 2 weeks and I just didn't see it coming.

I still like this book and I've got my own take on it using "To Do Lists" effectively. And my book is on free promo tomorrow ( ( Oct 14/2014)) on Amazon. If you are interested you can chrck it out here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MGAQT4S/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1413246490&sr=1-1
Sounds ambiguous and "works well in theory" I think heard that one before.
I have read this book, I adapted only one, if it can be done in -I forgot how many- but prolly 5 minutes, do it right away. This seems to work really, it may look small but it works with emails, paying bills, renewing subscriptions . Well it might be too simple but it helps with an INFP so I don't have my head occupied of delayed things to do.

I can't read that book. I tried last night, the problem with these books is they spend so much time selling their ideas in the book. I'm like I already bought the book just tell me what to do. I don't care why. just give me a step by step, simple what to do. When you sit there and spend 15 pages explaining the who what when where and why of each step, I just skim through it looking for the actual what and how.

Haha indeed you can find a graph that tells all. I was made to read at the place I made an internship v.V only then I knew, most of the book is junk
