As ENFPs we're supposed to spend a lot of time dreaming of future possibilities. But I find myself daydreaming at least as much, if not more, about divergent paths I could have taken in life. I imagine had I made a different major decision, where would I be? How would my life be different? The details of these daydreams can be very detailed and vivid.

I feel like it's Ne going introspective in an attempt to help organize my feelings and thoughts.

Do you spend a lot of time pondering where you would be, had you made different decisions?

Not exactly. But I can clearly point which moments in my life brought drastic turns leading to where I actually am. Which gave me in turn a better understanding of future actions long term implications.

Sometimes that line of thinking can be fascinating! I may even believe in alternate realities for divergent timelines. But as fascinating as it is that way of thinking can be destructive for me. Sometimes if I focus on the "what ifs" I get caught up in the ideas of what I don't have and what I lost and I can get trapped in this longing for a part of the past that I can never have again... So in general, I avoid that way of thinking, as natural as it is and as curious as it is because it can leave me feeling unfulfilled.

I tend to try and look at the past now and recognise "this was a crossroads moment that would have changed everything." and just accept that I wouldn't change my choices or explore how I would, even to avoid the negative since lessons learnt make me stronger.

@Moby could it be subconcious or well developed Ni ?

Nope, I don't actually do anything similar. I can definitely see where some of the "crossroads" of choices could have been in the past but I trust my sometimes seemingly random choices which have led me to where I currently am. I remember that during Uni times I sometimes so blindly believed into that some unknown forces show me the right path that I just went with the flow. Like a sort of fatalist :) Haven't so far had any regrets or doubts about that belief so that I still trust it :)

Good thing about Ne is that you practically create the path under your feet as you walk. And if you trust it enough, there can't be wrong pathways as you always immediately see options to adjust the course when needed :) Or the options just find you when you need them the most :)

I see it more as what happens when a strong dose of Si works in tandem with Ne. I don't think Ni gets so caught up on what could have been.
Right, as Ni doesn't ever focus on past (which is sometimes even weakness of Ni user as I've seen from my relationship). Well said that you actually combine dose of Si with Ne to do so.
