In my psychology class, I learned that people dream in black and white 50% of the time. However, I can't remember dreaming in black and white even once. Any thoughts on this?

I've heard the whole dream in black and white thing, but it seems odd to me... I mean we live in color why wouldn't we dream with color? I know I do all the time, I know I notice the colors of things within the dream as part of the dream so its not just me imposing color onto it when I'm remembering it after waking up.

I don't remember ever dreaming in black and white.

The second option "I only dream in black and white" reminds me of Dream of Mirrors by the Iron Maiden

I only remember one time when a dream was black and white. And not entirely.
I think its way too weird to not being able to FEEL everything you dream. I actually have lucid dreams very often -- not like many others who just start discovering how to do it. Oh well... i'm curious about the b/w dreams meanings too.

Wow, never that l can recall.

Although my dreams are often not very 'solid', as best l can explain, the scenery is just a blur but l'm pretty sure l experience it like real life color.

Reminds me of when I was in school and they taught us that our tongue has specific areas for each type of taste (salty, sweet, bitter, etc..), which is false, but they taught it like it was the gods-honest-truth.

The data your psychology class is using is old. New studies show the "black and white" dreaming was a direct result of the type of media people were exposed to (which is a very interesting study).

In short, people who recall dreaming in B&W either had a preference for black and white cinema/TV, or grew up in the era before color TV was popular. Since colors are only applicable in light (your memory operates independent of the light source), it becomes a factor of the media type that people are familiar with. Age of the test group is important here since it can skew the results.

This is just my opinion, but never trust what people tell you. Your teachers, your doctor... nobody. Do your own research. I've found so many lies and fallacies over the years that I "learned" when I was young. It really makes me angry, to be honest.

Hell, don't even trust what I wrote. Go look at some of the modern research papers.

I have read that most dreams, as identified by brain activity, are not remembered - and I believe we do a lot of editing as we wake up, taking some jumble of neural activity and construction a coherent sequence.

I always dream in color with objects and people that I interact with in a black void. When I wake up I can remember what I saw, if I don't forget the dream entirely.

My dreams are vivid, and as far as I know, most definitely in colour.

Also, I think that thing you heard about, people dreaming 50 % in black and white? Pretty sure that not that many people do. I think it's a minority. I... Also remember that from psychology class, though, and my memory's not the sharpest.

I dream in colors and my dreams are quite vivid - sometimes I'll have to go look for a book in my dream or turn on the faucet and feel water to see if I'm dreaming or not . However I do have a friend who dreams in black and white - he was telling me about how he's envious of those who dreams in color but I never knew the percentage was 50, interesting :)

I have very vivid dreams and they're always in color. I doubt that 50% of people dream in black and white nowadays, though it would make a lot more sense for people who grew up with black and white TV and movies.

I've never dreamt in black and white. My dreams are very vivid and I have had a full range of senses present in them. I've heard that you can't smell or taste or die in your dreams too, but I've done all of those.

I dream mostly in color but I've had dreams in black and white. I've also had a dream that was in all shades of red and another was in all shades of blue.

I used to have vivid dreams up until I was the age of 13. I can't recall any dreams at all now, but when I do dream they are in black and white.
