This is a bit of an odd question... but do you ever catch yourself just staring at people? Its like I just get into this "zone" and then pretty soon I catch myself staring. I think I do it even more when drunk.... and its not like I want to be thought of as creepy by any means but it seems to be just the way my brain works that I just get in a "zone".

I almost wonder if this is a trend of another INFJs or just other dominant N types in general... so INFJs, INTJs, ENTPs, and ENFPs.

So do you ever catch yourself staring?

Sometimes I see someone that interests me or something that a person/persons are doing that causes me to stare. I just want to watch whatever is going on play out. It could just be that I am on a roll with reading someone's body language. I usually will catch myself and try not to be so obvious. On occasion I have had the person catch me looking and once eye contact is made I'll try to play it off and look away.
My degree is in Sociology, so I say I have a degree in people watching.

"Getting in the zone", another word on my dictionary lol

I usually find myself staring others when I'm thinking about other things(a.k.a "daydreaming lol) and my gaze naturally shifts into others directions. When I snap out of it, I find myself awkwardly looking into their eyes and I have to instantly take my stare into another spot.

All the time. And then I quickly turn away when I notice them noticing me. A little embarrassing sometimes, but I can hardly help myself...People watching is apparently one of my favorite hobbies lol

Yes, though as I've gotten older I've learned how to hide it better. When I was in middle school I would get caught staring and given hell by other kids. The thing is I just like to watch people...try to figure out what they are thinking... or look for that something that I know lurks just beneath the surface. People just fascinate me and I want to learn all I can about them.

Thanks guys... now I don't feel so creepish after I caught myself doing this frequently this weekend. It bad when people point it out to you that you're staring at them.

What's funny is that one day I met an ENTP and I was creeped out because he was staring so much... now after the fact I realize "wait, why was I judging him... I do the same damn thing!!" lol

Hmm I don't stare actually I feel uncomfortable when people stare at me. My eyes are mostly looking around the room (except when speaking to someone but sometimes they shift) but I still know what is going on in the room and what the people there are doing.

Haha it is an indirect way of people watching.

i also do this, and at the same time do what i can to avoid doing it.

i think most people get freaked out... but i'm always really flattered to be the target of someone's zoned out stare  catching someone's eyes in one of those stares is like a little window through the introvert shell, until they notice and look away of course!

I get the dominant iNtuitive thing. I do stare at mysterious things and lose my attention.
But its more the things than people. Like fighter jets. Mountains, and trees, and some bizarre kind of things like homes, and scenery. Like old architectures, ghostly things. I highly appreciate the designs.
I intute the hidden meanings behind that things.

Same with people, i see them like any other object so i do get the kind of a person but not more than that. ENTPs are often dumb in getting what is going in someones mind like what you call emotions and feelings.

I had a pretty scary incident once because of my 'staring'. I was sitting on the curb waiting for my ride to come, and there was a man who was leaving his house just walking around across the street. I started to stare at him wondering what it was like to be him, and what he was up to.. etc...

well... a few minutes into this, he walks up to the edge of his curb and starts swearing at me like "WTF are you LOOKING AT?!". It was scary, but yeah.... lesson in not staring at people. I stopped staring at strangers because of that. I usually just stare at the ground or stare at my ipod touch these days.

You never know what kind of people there are.. I swear he was going to pull out a gun and shoot me, that guy was 'mad'.

There are some mysterious traits you know, that dominant intuition is associated with.
I think i can tell from the eyes, an INFJ. They have some distinct kind of a thing, i cant explain.
Their eyes are not like normal people.
Your intuition is a thing which is continuously decoding the encoded ideas in your environment. And when its dominant this is what basically drives, you. May be this is why we are like absent minded individuals.

I had a INFJ classmate, she often seem to lose conscience, and stare at someone like looking for something. This kind of staring wasnt annoying. She just seem to be lost.

No, but other people catch me staring at them.
this, exactly. :)
although i'm not usually aware i'm staring, but this question makes me realize, usually it happens because i: (one or more of the following)

-am trying to read them or figure out a situation in which they are involved
-am imagining how they must be feeling or putting myself in their shoes
(the above are probably the two most common reasons i stare)

-am trying to catch their eye because they won't make eye contact with me for some reason
-feel more comfortable looking at them than at the others, or they just generally put me more at ease than the others (so i keep my focus on them more than on the others in the group)
-like them very much as a person and am thinking about how much i like them
-find something aesthetically pleasing about them (their eyes, their hair, their clothes, or they are just generally attractive)
-find them absolutely adorable (like little kids)
-find an inner light and kindness shining out through their eyes and face (somehow i just want to stare into eyes like that, and find it hard to look away)
-can't stand the way they are being treated and feel sorry for them
-feel empathy towards them and am trying to to comfort them by giving them a loving/caring look so they feel that someone cares and accepts them as they are
-am lost in their eyes and suddenly the rest of the world fades out until i realize it and snap out of it
-am lost in thought about something and just happen to be looking in their direction and don't realize it right away
