Do you want to save the world? change the world? Or just get by?

As an idealist, i'd like to hear your thoughts

Save:
Do you see alot of turmoil in the world that you want change? Do you hear all this chaos on the news and wish you could help? In a few years time do you see yourself leading the way to a new revolution? Perhaps living a life that is free and yours, completing your mission that you set out to accomplish. By all this i mean really diving into your inner Mother Theresa, gettin down and dirty, even going as far as giving up your own house in order to pursue your dreams of Peace.

Change/ affecting:
Change the world, helping out here and there, giving some food to a begger, making sure your opnions come across others, hopefully inspiring people along the way, going to a few festivals and meeting people with the same wavelength as you.

Get by:

This i mean, going to college, being nice to your friends, praying every so often, do one good dead, having kids, have a life.

As honestly as you can please. I wont judge your answer :)

Save, change, Or get by, Why?

A cross between save and change for me. I don't like the classical idea of saving or changing the worlf in the form of a revolution as I don't know if I could properly implement my ideas on a large scale without it backfiring big time. I believe a backfiring in these sorts of situations have large numbers of people just wanting to live their lives being unpleasantly caught in the middle of it all. There's also the issue of it becoming nothing but a big ego display on my part, "Hey look at me, aren't I cool? I saved the world!" I believe the world needs to save itself, if I was to find a way to save anything, I guess it would have to be more of a guide or adviser of sorts, doing my part to help guide the world away from turmoil (without me becoming delusional or generating a god complex!) If the MBTI is true then the personality types aren't going anywhere anytime soon and thus as an extension neither are the different types of people, which from the various personality type perspectives being "deadbeats/fascists/assholes/criminals/pigs/terrorists" etc. In the end, the rifts and wounds between the types need to heal and everyone needs to find a way around or through their differences, no one person or small group can do that. I think its the same for everything. I don't think I really know what war, peace, life, death etc. mean to me but I think everyone in the world needs to stop, think and come to their own conclusions about these matters entirely from their own points of view, I think it will at least produce some interesting results. So in that, I haven't actually saved anything at all, just sat back and chose the lazy option. :proud:

I'm also tempted to say change/affect as small deeds can eventually create larger consequences. But I didn't because my idealism is ultimately in the "save the world" category.

'Look at me i saved the world' haha yeah , I can certainly see why some would see it that way, it would be nice too see some one really shake this rotting world without wreaking the benefits, doing it unconditionally and without ,i don't know if such a person exists but if someone did, these days they'd either be praised by a handful and scorned by a lot or just scorned through the social manipulation of the media, look at Michael Jackson. I believe that guy was innocent, yes.

I just think we have alot of potential that we're not using. There are good people right here, in this forum and we're using all out energy too talk amoungst ourselves, I'd be really impressed (if a bit jealous even) that someone were to come here and say i've saved a life. i spoke to two people on the brink of suicide a few days ago, i think thats why i'm asking this,
it just makes me think, all these people need is a sympathetic ear, and here you guys are.

I'm surprised you don't have the mention of TAKING OVER THE WORLD.

I truly have a bit of a Pinky and the Brain mentality. I intend to go any route to achieve my goals, and it will be a mix of influence, "immunity" through popularity - recognition, and simply opening eyes.

Obviously I could never really takeover the world, so "CHANGE" might be the best view of it. It's also more of on a national (Canada) scale rather than a world.

I can't pretend to save the world, because I honestly can't even save myself. But I do hope to change the world, or at least the little part of it I've decided to try to change. I am very concerned about the privacy of everyday people, and believe that the "war on terror" only gives the U.S. government an excuse to spy on citizens in the name of security. But I believe the effect is only to make us more fearful and ultimately less free. So...I am a state coordinator of a small civil liberties group.

But I am also just trying to get by. My personal life is in such a shambles that it threatens to overtake everything, including my activism :(

Sorry about the political rant...I tend not to do politics on PerC.

Definitely change/save the world. I've always daydreamed about this option. As an INFP, I haven't even considered the realistic aspects of achieving that, haha. :p For some reason, just living your life like any normal person would bug me out of my mind. I think the main reason for this would be that I would NEED meaning in my life, not just having fun around in circles and achieving the normal status aspirations. I would really, really hope to impact the world. Some way, somehow. But these are probably just the writer thoughts in me talking. Day-dreaming about this and really hoping for this sure, but actually being able to show the world what I want to do? SCARY.

For myself, I believe it important to live every day with the intention of bettering the world. As long as I live with that in mind, I start to see the slow effects I have on people and environments I'm in. I could never live a life purely for myself, because I feel that while humans have a right to be self-focused, I would feel very shallow and unfulfilled leading that kind of life.

First, I'd put an end to warfare, genocide, and poverty. I'd work on massive green initiatives and work on means to ultimately end overpopulation, hunger, and thirst. Next, I'd work on healthcare and education. I could really go all day.

I couldn't agree more. The government wants to have free access to all our activities and communications and gives us no information in return? What do they have to hide from us? Probably a great deal...

They say you can end world hunger by using insects as food. As you may know, they're full of protein, cheap to breed, and just generally incrediblyyyyyy plentiful.

getting by is something i'd need to accomplish before i begin to dream about tackling the other two, but i think life is turning around for me, finally. I'd say change because if u change a situation there is nothing to save:laughing:
I never really wanted to change the world, but I did want to kind of help people in a way… through art. That sounds kind of silly now.

There was a time when I was inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky and his reason for creating films. He said “My purpose is to make films that will help people to live, even if they sometimes cause unhappiness.” I wanted to create art that reaches out to people, to, I don’t know… help them live, give them hope or something, I’m not sure I fully understood myself. But I don’t want that anymore, and I don’t think I could do it even if I wanted to.

I have no intentions of saving the world or changing it. And I mean actually changing it, not charity stuff, I don’t believe that small acts of kindness change anything. I know I would be bound to get disillusioned sooner or later. I don’t even know what I want to do with my life, nevermind changing the world. I think through such overly idealistic goals you only end up fighting windmills.

So yea, I care about getting by. I care about living a good and comfortable life and being loyal to those close to me. I focus on avoiding inflicting pain upon others rather than bettering the world. That’s as noble as I get.

I'm obsessed with saving people to a point it makes me cry much at times. Since an early age. I give money to beggars...I sign petitions, and I'm an LGBT activist...
don't why to work for myself when I can work for people's sexual liberation. Everyone wants the same thing at last...

I want to change the world by influencing peoples' mindsets through art :)

For the 'save the world' part: i don't think the world needs saving. Sometime I think i'm being really selfish and narrow-minded by saying that, because I haven't experienced any of the hardships people face, like war and abuse and stuff. But in a way, apart from it all, I feel it's what humanity should be. I like the way the world is imperfect. I mean yeah, if I could, I probably would want to diminish poverty and all that, but... I don't want to revamp it completely into some sort of paradise, because I think it would then contradict the whole nature of humanity. I feel that this is who we are, and this is who we should be. Our flaws are what make us alive.
As mean and ignorant as it sounds, I cannot picture a perfect world with flawless political systems and zero environment/social issues. Because, irunno, that isn't living, is it? It's more like... surviving, yet not truly understanding what it means to be alive. :x do i make sense.
