I have seen some testimonials that it can significantly improve one's energy levels and intrinsic motivation, but I am not convinced. Has anyone here attempted to abstain before, and if so what did you notice?

Everything in moderation, so long as you don't have an addiction then you're fine. Most people whack off and are fine so that should tell you that you don't need to stop whacking off to be a functional human-being. The people who swear by it either had a porn addiction (so why wouldn't they swear by it?) or it's a placebo effect. It's not realistic really, it's like telling someone to diet forever, it wont work, they need cheat days and to relax their diet at times or else it's too much. It could also just be subjective. People swear by cold showers, but after trying that for a month all it did was make me tired and drop my dopamine levels and I got depressed, when the opposite outcome was promised. Coffee makes me tired too.

Well, no harm will come from a little experimentation. I will start by abstaining in the week and keeping Saturday and Sunday as cheat days. On average I have masturbated between once every two days and two times a day.

A lot of athletes say it doesn't work though
https://time.com/2911744/can-sex-really-dampen-athletic-performance/

most of, if not all of, the best athletes are doing it.
the question to ask regarding the scientific measures is did the scientists have sex the nights before and during the experiment or did they themselves abstain as to control variables leading up to taking the measurements of the experiment?
gotta start/stop timers and place weights just right after all, wouldn't want to be lackadaisical about it and blow that grant money.

I tried it for a month. It was an interesting test of will-power.
It got easier as the month wore on, and I was quite proud that I passed my goal, but was relieved that it was over.

Don't know if it helped my energy or motivation much. I'm not exactly rushing to try it again.

There's a lot of conflicting scientific proof regarding it, Tyson Fury said he wacks off 8x a day for his fight and he's undefeated. TJ Dillashaw and plenty of others don't buy it either.

I don't think that fapping is bad per se, but being a heavy coomer and having a porn addiction (by definition bad) are. Porn can have neurological effects toward you and even psychologically if you consume too much of it (Israel used porn as a weapon at Palestine once). By practicing self-control, you letting yourself not be manipulated by your sexuality and not go under pressure. Nofap is good for that, but it doesn't make you Superman by human limitation. Besides, testosterone levels peak 7 days after last jacking off, so I wouldn't use that for T levels.

It lacks any proof other than "it helped me so it might help you too". There's no theory or idea behind it to support all those benefits. I could imagine it working for porn addicts or those who are seriously worried about their fapping habits, but for mentally sound folks it would mean nothing.

PIED, or Porn-Induced-Erectile-Dysfunction, is a real thing. The NoFap thing will reverse that after a few months. It isn't easy, but in my experience, it does have a lot of the promised benefits like a clearer mind.

I once abstained for 2 months. I never had a porn problem thank goodness, but I felt enslaved by my sexuality. Initially it made me feel freer, it was a relief to forget about male genitals. I also experienced heightened energy, like the site suggests. But then I started feeling super horny, when I was lying before falling asleep my cock was throbbing or my leg muscles were shaking. I also had vivid sexual fantasies during lectures, or fantasies that objectified my friends. Moderate masturbation works better, I also use herbs that lower testosterone as I don't like feeling like a macho.

NoFap has more to do with getting rid of porn for a month over not fapping for a month. Getting rid of porn in your life is a very good choice! Refusing to fap might overall be less beneficial. I'm thinking stress-reliefe and play around with sexy thoughts could possibly be good for you. Keep up the fap without porn.
