I am interested in dream interpretation, but anyone can type in 'what does a dying wolf mean in a dream' and find answers online. What is more interesting to me is to hear your dreams and see how others interpret them. I always love to approach a theoretical topic from a personal standpoint and see where it leads.

Feel free to post or interpret as many dreams as you would like on this thread. You may post your personal interpretation of your own dream as well. Feel free to discuss interpretations, debate, offer alternate analyses, and analyze the analyses. If your interpretation comes from a specific source (ie, Jung, Freud, shamanistic cultures, Native American culture, your own culture, etc)… feel free to discuss where you learned this and how it ties in. You do not have to be an 'expert' or 'educated on the topic' to offer an interpretation, but if you have some background, feel free to make that part of the discussion. Feel free to debate others' interpretation.

Have at it!

I excel at dream interpretation. It may not even be a legitimate practice, but who better for an imaginary practice than I? :kitteh:

I think I'm good at it because I dream so very often, and so very vividly. My own dreams fascinate me, and I wonder how they couldn't fascinate anyone else?

Here is one of the longest dreams I've had. I've posted it at least twice before, but I don't think it's often read, since it's so long. It actually ended up being rather prophetic, but then... I suppose any dream could be interpreted as such. Still, it was certainly... 'Magical'. :proud:

Thus:

My dreams are
amazing. I have a story-telling dream every night. I once had a dream that was so long, it took me about a half an hour to tell it.

People've told me I should write a book based on the ideas of my dreams.

In my dreams, anything can happen. I could be anyone, or anything : I could be an omnipotent presence, watching the unfolding of an event, from different perspectives.

I lose myself in my dreams. My identity no longer exists, and I take on the identity of someone else, and their memories. I can also be myself, with different memories. Or the same memories, with a few twists. Or I'm in a different place in time. Or I'm simply watching people interact, but am bodiless, mindless, simply taking it in as if I were immaterial space.

It's like time traveling mingled with multiple dimensions and just general awesomeness.

One of my favourite dreams is also the longest.

This was the story of a man and woman who lived on the Nile, in a sandstone mansion, given to them by the man's parents as a wedding gift. They were also given two guard-hippos which slept in the reeds in the river beside their home.

After their wedding, they stood looking out through the glass doors of their balcony, holding each other as they stood, like a King and Queen overlooking their Kingdom. I think the woman was wearing a simple white dress. The man, I do not recall, but could have been similarly dressed. Suddenly, they saw men in crocodile masks emerging from the Nile's reeds. Strangely, they looked more like crocodile-faces with men's bodies, in loin cloths.

Silent as snakes, these crocodile men hopped on the hippo's backs and sliced their throats in twine with snake-shaped kris (A type of long dagger), leaving the hippos behind them. Their presence seemed to be expected by the couple, who both went down the stairs and emerged through the back entrance.

The man stood in front of his new bride, and commanded them to take him instead. There were five of the crocodile men-- two took the man, and three went to
take the woman. The couple reached for each other dramatically (Like that painting of God and man reaching for each other), the woman struggling and screaming, but futilely...

For the man was pulled into the Nile with the two crocodile men, while the woman was taken inside.

My perspective at that point followed the man into the Nile, as he waded along waist-deep with the two crocodilemen, being taken far away from his new home.

Suddenly, one of them finally spoke. ''Make a wish.'' He commanded. The man refused. ''Choose!'' Thecrocodile man's voice bellowed, echoing.

He obliged, though silently, closing his eyes and wishing for the crocodile men to be gone. And gone they were-- Yet he was ushered further by the current of the river, and though he fought it, he could only continue.

After some time, he came to a fork in the river. By this time, there was forests which climbed along the side of the river, making it impossible to climb out. Among the trees, on each fork, there were glowing white words hanging in the air.

On the left fork in the trees, it read, ''Whirlpools...'' And on the right fork in the trees, the floating letters read, ''Shallow, but gets deep.''

The man's problem at this point was that he was a terrible swimmer, and he had been wading waist deep at this time. The river ushered him forward until he was in the middle of the fork, and he had to choose. He looked to the left, and saw threatening, gigantic whirlpools. On the right, he saw calm, still water.

He chose the right fork.

My perspective then goes back to the woman at the sandstone mansion, sitting in her living room with the threecrocodile men, who say nothing. But, suddenly, the doorbell rings. The woman looks up at the 'leader' crocodileman, who is standing by a wall adjacent to her. He says, ''Answer it.''

She stands obediently, and goes to the door. She opens it, and standing there... Is a young man who looks like Rufio from the movie Hook, only instead of red, his hair and costume is woven with purple of the same colour value.

Anyway, he asks her how she's been doing, and demands to know what happened to her... That he, and her family hadn't heard from her since the wedding, and it was as if she had cut off from all of her family and friends to be with her husband. It turns out this young man was an ex-boyfriend.

The perspective turns back to her husband, who has climbed up onto an underwater island in the river, now in ankle-deep water. As he walks, as 'the river fork' promised, it began to get deeper, and deeper. He was waist deep again, then he was up to his neck, and then the floor deserted him and he could no longer touch the bottom. He was flailing in the water, since he couldn't swim. He grasped at the long grass along the shore to keep himself up as he moved along the river.

Soon, there was another fork in the river. The left side, to the west, floating white letters again... They read, ''Reality.'' And to the east, the right, ''Dreams.''

He knew the reality was that he would be lost to his wife forever, as the river had taken him too far. He moved towards the 'dreams' fork.

Back to the bride's perspective. She is sitting in the livingroom again, when suddenly, the leader stands from his seat on a chair across from her, as if being told to take action. He looks into her eyes, and she bolts to her feet, frightened instinctively, knowing that this was wrong.

''Sleep...'' He says simply. She tries to look away from his eyes, but they bore into her, even as she turns her head to face downwards and to the left, she begins to feel dizzy. She is frantic-- She might die! She might never see her lover again. ''Sleep!'' The crocodile man commands.

She falls to the ground, asleep.

Her husband has come to a tropical shore, to a fire pit, the fire ablaze. It is warm and comforting, and he finds that he is falling asleep. A dream cloud opens above his head, and back at his sandstone mansion, his wife's does as well. The dreams merge into one.

The dream fades to black, and the crocodile's voice booms in my head, ''All you will ever be, is in love.''

I awaken at that point, in shock, frightened, and strangely feeling a mingle of awe and horror. Those last words carried a final, condemning note to them.

Of course, I wrote down every detail of the dream upon waking.

I've been having a re occurring dream in which I really need to use the bathroom, but when I get there, there is either too many people, the stalls are too short, people can see me or try to talk to me or the toilet is FILTHYYYYY & no matter how many times I clean it, the filth reappears, sometimes its all of these in 1 dream.

My interpretation of this dream is just a literal expression of how im anal retentive

I have this sort of dream too - but only when I have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. All of my in-dream priorities switch to finding a bathroom, but I can't find one that's acceptable to use, and I think that's because my body is telling me not to wet my sheets.

Great thread idea @Animal!

I'm a follower of Jungian analysis/dream interpretation, and it's not as easy as it sounds. The only one who can interpret dream is the dreamer, not the dream dictionary or the other people, because we all have unique experiences, memories, feelings, and thought. And example the dream "cat" might be different from one person to another. Sometimes there is pun involved. And dream is dependent on memory, faith, and experience. I have so many dreams to share, some are frightening, some are disturbing, some are depressing, and some are reassuring. But dream is definitely a truth teller. And the wonderful thing about it is, it can predict the future, make warning, offer solution to a problem, or spark an original creative idea, and work of art, and discoveries.

Jung's interpretation to "dying" is a new beginning, and not the literal death, so he advises that whenever you dream of death and dying of someone close to you, you should not be afraid of it because you should not take it at face value. Death may mean an eradication of a person's bad character or habit or anything that a certain person possess.

Wolfs and animals, colors and numbers, have different meaning to different culture, so, you should also consider those whenever you want to interpret a dream.

And the most effective way of finding the interpretation is the feelings you had when you dreamed that dream. That offers a very crucial clue.

Okay, my dream is slightly boring, but I'd be interested to know if it has any actual meaning:

I was walking through an empty hallway that led to several empty classrooms. I was checking each classroom for a friend I couldn't find.

Towards the end of the hallway, I opened one classroom door and looked inside. Seated at a table was George Lucas. All alone, just sitting there with his hands on the table.

I looked him over, stated "you're not my friend" (in a literal he-wasn't-the-friend-i-was-looking-for manner), and closed the door.

I woke up after that.

I'm not sure what it means, and I'm usually pretty good at understanding the reason for my dreams.

I apologize that the dream is nothing thrilling...most of my vivid dreams stopped years ago.

I just had a dream where I was in a class on valuation where the lecturer was a duck in a suit. Have a go on that one!

I had a dream that a species of 2 dimensional massive hovering cartoon like beings invaded our dimension through a portal created by their far superior technologies. Our weapons were ineffective against them. Humanity was on the brink of a elimination when we managed to acquire the device capable of creating inter dimensional portals. It was reverse engineered and turned into weapons capable of sending things back into their original dimension permanently. The tides turned and humanity quickly retook their dominance over our dimension.

The war came to a climax in the final battle in which the 2 dimensional beings regrouped to make a final stand. I was with the general in charge of the human armies on a hilltop watching the final battle from a distance as we waited for the first large scale version of the weapon used to defeat the race to arrive. I begged the general to take prisoners, as I desperately wanted to know why the 2d beings invaded our dimension. He refused and I watched as the remaining 2d beings were sucked into a gigantic portal back into their dimension for good.

Then I woke up and I had to pee really really bad...

I had a very strange psycho dream the other day that I can't really figure out :-D

I dreamt I was living with my parents and had sex with this dude regularly in my old room...since he was otherwise very annoying, I was using him just for sex. The fourth or so time we had sex he got all weird and hyper-emotional and started threatening that he was going to commit suicide by jumping off my balcony (8th floor), to which I just said coolly "Jump, then".

And so he really ran to the balcony and jumped, and I watched him fall really slowly. Then when he fell to the ground and died, I was suddenly overwhelmed with a feeling of exhilaration and sexual excitement, and danced all the day from joy :-D

I suppose this is some sort of metaphor for the joy of getting rid of burdensome, unnecessary things, not an indicator I'm a sadistic psycho :-D

I had an odd dream a couple weeks ago where I killed a large spider that had a smiley-face cookie for a body. Yes, really. It crumbled like a cookie and everything when I squashed it.

Take a shot at that one.

@Deejaz Maybe that's your brain telling you it's time to clean up around the house...or something. Get rid of some things? Let go of people in your life who aren't doing you any good? I'm not sure.

I had a dream last night that I was Emma Stone and my parents were running around the house trying to kill me and my brother. This dream went on for a very long time - my running and hiding, them finding me, me running again and trying to protect my brother. This feeling of hopelessness, inescapable... I knew that in the end they would get me. They wouldn't stop until they killed me.

They killed my brother and I finally escaped and found myself in a cafe. There I met a man (who might have been Rob Lowe?) and he and I started dating and after a few days he insisted that I move in with him. I was on the fence because on one hand moving in with him would mean that I'd be safe from my homicidal parents, but on the other hand I didn't like how insistent he was on me moving in so soon, and I didn't know if this would last, and all my stuff was at my home where my murderous parents were. But I ended up saying yes because I didn't feel I had any other options, and so I snuck back to my old house to try to get my possessions without my parents detecting my presence. My brother was still dead in the backyard. The last thing I remember about my dream is hiding out in my attic and realizing that I would have to camp out for a few days or else my parents would see me leave the building and chase me and then I would die for sure. And then I woke up, I guess.

Maybe you feel like you're ego is getting in the way of things (or you are insecure about your appearance) and being chased is feeling helpless about it, and being killed is you trying to fix the problem, but you don't know how. The guy you dated, maybe you're looking for a sense of security in your struggles, and need an extra boost to face them ie. recovering your things (your security?) and facing your parents (your problems). I'm not very good at this. I find it amazing how you remember so much detail, I only remember flashbacks, mostly.

The most recent dream I remember, I can only remember one quick scene. I think my truck broke down and I THINK was with someone (dont remember who, all I remember is a pair of jeans cause I was bent down) and I had a knife in my hand. I impulsively stabbed the hell out of my tire. I was like SHIT! The tires flat now. I just bought new mud tires (expensive) so I was pissed, started losing my temper and went to check my back tires realizing they were my old ones. This dream made me wonder. Maybe I'm trying to fix a problem in my life that's making me angry?

I'm going to list a couple of my dreams:

1. I'm in my home. There's a blue-tinged sterile lighting throughout. Some things are missing - objects like the living room couch and what not. I feel a terrible sense of dread and I run down the hallway past the doors to my bedroom and bathroom into my mother's bedroom. It doesn't occur to me to look to see if she's there. When I reach the back wall there's nowhere else to run so I turn around and look back into the hallway. The hallway has suddenly become totally engulfed in darkness. I look to the left of the doorway at my mother's closet mirror at the foot of her bed. I see myself in the reflection holding the my own corpse. I proceed to violently slam the face of the corpse into the mirror and it begins to shatter. I drop the corpse and turn toward the darkened hallway where another copy of myself steps out from the darkness and attacks me. I wake up.

2. I see my father working with this large piece of equipment stamping out utensils. The workplace is a total mess - forks, butter knives, etc all over the machine. I get this thought that something horrible is going to happen to him if he doesn't clear the machine of the strewn about pieces of metal so I frantically run over and start to clear the workspace. When I feel that the machine is safe I turn to walk away and my father stabs me in the back of the head with a butter knife. After I realize that my father has just murdered me everything fades to black and a song starts to play. "Kiss My Ass" by Denis Leary. I stay there in darkness listening to this song but I wake up before it ends.

3. I'm sitting in the back of a car and I'm talking to two people in the front seat. We're stuck in traffic and everything seems normal. While I'm talking the guy in the drivers seat turns around and shoots me in the face. They open the door and roll my body out of the car and drive away. The first thought I had after I woke up was "the least the could've done was let me finish what I had to say."

4. (Last one.) I'm in my apartment when I hear a knock at the door. I open the door and somebody drags me through the open door by the neck to the stairs just off our porch and shoots me through the back of the head.

I get murdered very often in my dreams.

I can't post recent dreams as I'm taking a dream course and it requires keeping a journal we have to hand in, if I post my dreams here it'll show up as plagiarism and I'll end up with a 0

I'll interpret others' dreams instead

My interpretation is heavily influenced by the theories of Jung as I'm interpreting my own dreams based on his methods and reading about them.

what the heck..here's last night's dream (will not include it in my journal assignment):

I dreamed that superman is a brother/sibling figure of mine..but even though he has super power he doesn't use it for good..or bad even. Anyway, there was a flood and a lot of people- including myself and the superman was stuck inside a flooding basement. At the nick of time people seemed to get out, and taking lungful of air and we discovered the superman was dead..even though he seemed immortal.
