How do you guys feel about the whole social media thing?

Do you blog?

Do you use Facebook?

Do you have a Twitter account?

What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?

I mean, it's existence is something I find interesting. It has lost it's overall "excitement" for me though. I sort of use them out of addiction and necessity. I'm actually looking forward to the next advance. I hate facebook now that EVERYONE I've ever came into contact with is a friend of mine.

Do you blog?
Here and there, I have a tumblr, and I like to get some thoughts out of my head from time to time if necessary. I would write an actual blog, or a more text based tumblr, but I'm not that interesting. Maybe when I get back to school.

Do you use Facebook?
Yes, I do, but I would like to get rid of it. If it weren't my only method to contact certain people, and a social necessity I would have deleted it a while ago. My friend's status updates make me realize how ignorant most of them are.

Do you have a Twitter account?
fuck no

What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?
I have a Reddit account. I used to have a Digg account, and I love Kevin Rose to death. Especially since I used to watch him on The Screensavers (creator of Digg), but I haven't used it much anymore. Most of the information on Digg I can find elsewhere.

you can hide them on your news feed now.... yeah, I've discovered that too. It's disappointing sometimes.

also my only way to contact certain people

I don't really blog. I have posted a couple here, but really only to write something down and have it witnessed than imagining anybody else finds my life interesting. And yet (muses) I do find other peoples' blogs interesting. Some of them, anyway. I think that posting rate is inversely proportionate to the level of interest it excites, though.

Facebook: yes, I use it. Under my married name so my patients can't find me! I had a massive cull early on, and got rid of anybody that I didn't interact with regularly in real life. It becomes worthless when everybody you ever met thinks they are your friend: too much noise, virtually no signal. Every now and then people I hardly know ask to be friends and it bothers me about being rude, so I accept....time for another cull soon, I think. Hopefully they won't notice.

Twitter: I have an account, but don't really use it. Last logged on several months ago. Probably now I am just being followed by four hundred prostitutes trying to engage me in internet porn....

I haven't heard of the last two.

I do FaceBook and this (PerC). It is quite enough. I have friends who feel the need to spurt out every little event taking place in and out of their heads on FB. I do not. I feel it to bee very shallow. I satrated using it because my co-trainer started using it for all communication.

From time to time I engage in debate (that actually can be interesting if they take the bait). Through comments I aim to show a form of humorous contempt for the normal dialogue on FB. Most people only like to write about lap times, if the family is sick, about their WONDERFUL vacation, their excellent food/husband or how cute the kids are. The occasional tv-series also is heavily commented.

I actually write these observations (about how little essentially is said )down on FB... A few like it. Most dont comment.

FaceBook seems to be the essential tool for lonely people....or people who feel lonely in their relationships. That latter part might apply to PerC as well to some extent.

People on FB are also shocked when you debate against their unthought-through misconceptions, however politically correct. FB is political correctness, faked empathy (no investment) and the pretense of friendship. There are good uses for it: Friends and relatives that live in other places etc, but most traffic seem to come from people you hardly know and do not wish to know further.

It tears me in two directions: wanting to be a non conformist, I want to say "f--- that sh-t," but I also am a gigantic attention whore and social networks are a great way to draw attention to yourself.

Do you blog?

Yes.

Do you use Facebook?

Yes, I accept all friend requests and make sure to be as controversial as possible. I swear my friends counter would be 3X as high if I would just keep my mouth shut, but I'd rather light a fire and see who stays, I want those people to be my friends, and not the sensitive idiots who can't tolerate outlandish viewpoints. So I generally never peak above 300 on the friends because I make sure to scare away the people who don't know or understand me that well. I've never de-friended someone on Facebook. I don't believe in it because I hate the thought of someone who enjoys my witticisms and status updates suddenly being deprived of them through no fault of their own, regardless of how well I know them. So I rely on the audience to unsubscribe to me as they see fit.

Do you have a Twitter account?

I do but I hardly ever Tweet or go on for that matter.

What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?

Nope.

I'm a pretty big redditer and I use Facebook often since the vast majority of the friends I actually care about live elsewhere. I have a Twitter but I really just follow satirical fake twitter accounts because they're funny, I rarely ever tweet. And I have never been much into blogging, though maybe one day if I get a decent camera I'll start vlogging cause I do some pretty wild stuff sometimes.

Do you blog?
No, I don't understand why anyone would want to read my shit.

Do you use Facebook?
Yes. I have recently approached 500 friends so I have slowly been deleting the people I don't talk to anymore, never talked to to begin with, are annoying, etc. I am on it way to much (only cuz I have nothing else to do). It's unbelievable how much retarded shit is posted by people (especially the immature highschoolers, but also ignorant stuff everyone else posts) and I verbally (typeally?) rape them appropriately. Snide remarks, sarcasm, anything to point out how much sense these people don't make. A couple close friends and I like to take pictures of stuff people post (pics, comments, likes) and share them with each other for a laugh. Maybe I'll post a couple examples if I can find some in my phone. I usually try not to post stuff myself unless I know more than a few people will "like" it. I used to post a lot of passive aggressive statuses but that makes me look bad so instead I post things like " "Quotes are stupid"-TravelinMax" " and also things that are more directed toward certain people.

Do you have a Twitter account?
Yeah, used it for two weeks, locked it down, never went back.

What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?
I used Foursquare about twice. Like everything else I create accounts for, I wish it was easy to delete my accounts for sites I don't use anymore.

Here are the examples I mentioned in the paragraph about Facebook:

I might text this to a friend and say "Wow growing up in (our very white town) made him gansta. Look at all them ones!"

"Does she read her own?"

Lol

"wat?"

Do you blog?
No, but I happen to read a lot of blogs about consumer products, technology, science, culture... a lot of things, actually. Keeping myself up to date with trends and plus it's part of being a Designer.

Do you use Facebook?
Yeah, a lot. I just post things that I find interesting from those blogs and expect some people to chime in on their opinion. In terms of the number of friends on there, I have about 160... I know who they are and I keep up with them on a rotational basis. By the way, do you guys look at the "Suggested Friends" section and see people that you know but choose not to add them?

Do you have a Twitter account?
I do have one, but I don't use it to twit my mind out, I use it to aggregate all of the blogs that I follow. I only have one friend on there that I'm following.

I like it when it's used to inform people and basically spread ideas, but too many people use it to either talk about insignificant or stupid stuff they did, complain, or vent. Seriously guys, just get a diary.

I have two tumblrs, and I really enjoy them because I'm a fangirl.

I don't have a facebook

I technically have a twitter, but I only got it to ask John Green a question during a liveblog. I never check it.

Really tumblr's all I have apart from Email.

Basically If I want to know what's going on with you I'll contact you on skype, I don't need a place to just talk about pointless stuff.

How do you guys feel about the whole social media thing?
I think its pretty good and enjoy the way I can follow different people who keep my mind active.

Do you blog?
I just created a Tumblr and the idea does intrigue me, but im worried it would sound awfully pretentious to blog my thoughts and I really have nothing of worth to say.

Do you use Facebook?
Yes and was actually just thinking about deleting majority of people from it because It is somewhat pointless because I don't know them and they are mostly boring people. I did close it for about 6 months, but most people cracked it with me so if I happened to run into my "friends" they would ignore me.
Do you have a Twitter account?
Yes, I love twitter so much more than facebook.. Thats mainly because (like tumblr) I follow people who are interesting and post different designs, ideas or whatever.
What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?
tried reddit... Found the interface boring and I just couldn't get into it.

I feel like it's become popular to talk about how the social media is ruining our lives and whatnot. But I personally like it. I control my level of involvement, so I don't see what the big deal is.

Do you blog?

No

Do you use Facebook?

Yes

Do you have a Twitter account?

Yes. At first I didn't "get" Twitter, but I enjoy it now. I like how you can say pretty much anything you want here, and there are no repercussions. I use a much smaller filter on Twitter than I do on Facebook. Let's be real, I have some really funny and interesting things to say, and people should know about them!

What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?

I really like Reddit. It's purely a source of entertainment. Or sometimes 4chan if I'm in that kind of a mood that particular day.

I love it. Honestly, I'm glad it's there and I don't know what I would do without it.

Do you blog?

Does Instagram count? I have a Tumblr. I want a blog because I have amazing insights, but I'm way to busy to be writing everyday. I'd also like to vlog, probably more than blogging, but then again I'm too busy.

Do you use Facebook?

Yes, but not as much as I used to. It's more of a source of connection between everyone else than a place I can state, "what's on my mind"

Do you have a Twitter account?

YES. It's my new obsession. I was with all those people who said it was stupid until my friend got one and practically BEGGED me to get one. Now I can't stop tweeting.

What about Foursquare or social news (e.g. Digg or Reddit)?

I have a Foursquare, but I never use it and have no idea what it's for.

Some of it I like and some of it I don't like
Do you blog?

No. Sounds like too much upkeep and I don't care enough to be that disciplined with a blog.
However, there are blogs that I love to read.

Do you use Facebook?

Yes. But I keep my friend count low. I friend people I actually like. The rest I ignore.

Do you have a Twitter account?

Yes. I use it more than I used to. I enjoy it more than I used to.

None of it

I hate Pinterest. Ugh

I love LinkedIn.

I have/have had an account with almost every conceivable blogging platform and email service etc. If any of my friends have it I'd sign up just try but I usually abandon accounts after a few weeks from the lack of network/replies. I'm on incessantly 9gag and Failblog, Facebook and Twitter and Pinterest, I post original content on Tumblr. I also have accounts with Lookbook, Fictionpress, Goodreads, Youtube, Etsy, Deviantart, Livejournal, and Plurk. I used to be huge on Digg and Fark, then Reddit but it got boring.

Facebook has devolved into something for those who desperately seek attention. Watching the older generation use it and reconnect with their long forgotten friends is entertaining however, and gives me hope that one day I can use it for a more nostalgic and memorable purpose than simply "I ate a bagel today. LMS for a truth is" and so forth. As for a blog I have been thinking about starting one just as a way to get my thoughts out, not that I'd expect anyone to read it. Twitter seems rather pointless to me so I choose not to use it.
