Hi forums! :D

I'm wondering if being able to appreciate the so-called 'finer things in life' is part of being an ISFJ. Like, you can tell if pieces of clothing go well together or not (but not necessarily know what to wear) or just liking tasteful things in general. Like say, the idea of minimalism and such. Or being conscious about your appearance...?

Thoughts?

Yes, very much so. I actually really enjoy decorating. I'm also really into fashion, (even though I can't always execute my ideal style.)
I love colors that compliment. It's a true joy in my life. Sometimes, people will ask for my opinion.

Absolutely. I love efficiency but above all I'm a visual perfectionist and it's a top priority of mine to have my living space aesthetically appealing (my room is all black and white, my wardrobe is grayscale and I'm super picky about lighting). I'm really good with details but also pulling everything together.

There's been threads on this before, but I think the ISFJs' Si and Judging preference make us really good at this stuff. Auxiliary Fe probably also helps take outside opinions strongly into account to make things that aren't just appealing to us but to others as well.

Like @RansomthePasserby, I'm also the go-to person for opinion on these things... like anything to do with color palettes, furniture, photos, outfits, etc.

I'm good at decorating/arts/crafts/sewing, etc. I'm pretty good with clothes, and I'm excellent at scrounging up an outfit last minute when I thought I didn't have anything to wear. X) Although, that is pretty stressful, and I like to plan them in advance. I think it's probably our capacity for detail that makes us ISFJs good with aesthetics. :)

(not sure if im isfj instead of infj - trying to figure it out by searching the forums)

i'm not very good at it but when shopping i do try to look for items that will *suit* the colouring and atmosphere of the room i'm buying it for and usually it's something to make it have character, look warm, look cool etc. whereas my boyfriend (ESTJ) will just be like "get blue it goes with the walls" and that's that, no deeper meaning LOL!

i also can find beauty in really simple items and usually attach such meaning to them.

ISFJ's definitely find beauty in simplicity and have and eye for what is aesthetically pleasing. It also gives us an instinct into things (whether something is or is not aesthetic and a general theory about it) that can later be deduced through our tertiary Ti (figuring out why is it that way).

Sensation can be very reveling in a lot of ways. Too often we do not trust ourselves or our perceptions. Sometimes for the best, however.

I am acutely aware of what looks good on me. When I truly dress the way I want, I am often complimented, not directly on my looks or anything, but that what I am where suits me so well. I think the pinnacle of this was when my mother stated, "I hate to admit this, but you look good in black." To her, it was not the preferred colors I wore, and to many others as well. But to me, I know what looked good on my person, better than experienced advice even. Its this intimate understanding of aesthetics though that makes it hard to share. It does not go along with the norm or expected. It does not behave by outside knowledge. Its to our own, and its very hard to communicate without being shown.

I have never had any interest in fashion or art. In fact at one point of my life I was criticised by my teachers and she called my parents due to poor hygiene lack of fashion sense. I think thats due to personal problems than mbti as i hated that school. Im really bad at art and I don't have a clue about fashion. Maybe it is a learn behaviour from childhood due to my Fe or something. Because the culture I was born was very consersative and the most accepted males were supposed to be interested in action figures,football/soccer and marital arts. I was close to taking karate class but the guy was on holiday but I wanna learn mixed martial arts!!!. I really enjoyed art classes and colourful books because @April_Showers said I loved the small detail that i could spot in it. Surroundings for me is very important and I know how to make rooms look good I had my parents redo the painting of my room to one of my favourite childhood books because I thought it suited it well.

My mother, the ISFJ (shocker, I know) is very much focused on aesthetics although it isn't minimalism or sleek personal style. She projects it onto literature, food, crafts and home environment for the most part. She also has very particular expectations to music that includes a limit as to how high vocals can be (and that bar is very low) and completely excludes a whole list of genres. She has always been very meticulous about collecting cutlery, glasses and dishes. And she crochets ribbons for gift wrapping, just to mention a few things off the top of my head.
