Because everyone needs a poetry thread..

I look into the distance, is it true
Is it my imagination, is it you
I'm starting to believe I've gone insane
I think I'm going crazy
My reality's going hazy as we speak right now.
Am I alone
Am I speaking to the sky
Did I imagine you and I
Am I alone
I am alone and you're a figment of my mind.
I am alone, I am alone
I have no place to call my home
You were the reason I felt reason to continue with this life
That died with the knife reality stabbed through my mind.
I wanted more, I needed more, but now I'm frozen to the core
I feel so cold, so void and lifeless as I hold onto this life we had before
The life we never had but in my mind
I am alone
I've gone crazy but I just can't seem to stop
Thinking of the way things could have gone
Thinking of the life we would have had
If only you were real and you could hear this song.

Thats a great poem :) heres one of mine

I'm being tugged between two forces
The want to stay young
To stay the same
To see the beings flit through the trees
To sense the magic in the air

And the nature to mature
To grow old
In mind
In body
For imagination to dwindle
For a steady common sense to replace

I'm stuck in a game of tug o' war
Slowly being torn in half
But I'm determined to win this war
For imagination to prosper
To stay the way I always have

Most have already lost this battle
Therefore I am alone
For their minds have closed up
Things unknown they don't except
Nor do they consider them

But I welcome the things unknown
My mind is open to see them
The fairlings small
The scaled ones tall
For I am winning this tug o' war

Found this a few weeks back while cleaning room, this time I made sure it didn't get lost in my pile of junk again xD And presenting... A poem I wrote for a class assignment when I was 13 or 14, but didn't end up submitting because I got the inspiration to write a different one about some ballerina. That one got lost too, I'm not sure if the teacher even returned it :crying: Either way, at that time I was a kid who couldn't understand the society I grew up in, but now I'm an older kid who still can't understand it :D Half of the other gen Z-ers I know in real life feel the same way! We're all dreaming of escaping, but I suspect at least half of us won't succeed xD
Ah well!

~Slow Dance~ (I literally drew the squigglies on my paper, hahahas xD)

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the Sun into the fading light?

You better slow down,
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed,
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You better slow down,
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child
"We'll do it tomorrow"?
And in your haste
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
'Cause you never had time
To call and say hi?

You better slow down,
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day
It's like an unopened gift...Thrown away.

I write a bit sometimes... nothing major. It's fun and is an outlet for just random thoughts I have. Here's a short one I wrote a bit ago:

Feather

What have we, in this life we live
of movement, to think and pause?
Each man will spread his wings
of bright and vibrant awe

He will soar above the clouds
one thousand feet up high
But with such a flight--a journey
To what, does he say goodbye?

So fast a world we live in,
That beauty is passed in a blur
What frantic thoughts possess us
To ignore its glorious lure?

As our wings take to the skies,
With each passing day,
Do we even care to notice
The single feather that flies away...

"I miss you,
but not in the way I used to,
I’m not allowed to do that anymore.

I don’t want to kiss you,
even if I did,
I would be numb from the pain

this poem is pretty cliche (I think?)
I wrote a lot of cheesy/sappy stuff recently.
I have a figment if anyone wants to check it out :)

I just realised my account registered me as a Generation Y but I'm not.... URGHH technology :/
Welp I promise I'm not a Gen Z imposter :p

Through the window of the plane in the night
I could see the orange suns on the ground,
hasty bugs driving along the bright lanes,
and the moon sleeping in the distance.

Dreadful thoughts sprang to my mind,
I did not want to stay on the sky,
I craved caressing the ground with my feet,
But it seemed so far away, microscopic.

I cannot tell if it was fear of dying
Or I simply longed for home and stillness.
The dark outer space was everywhere around me,
Scattered into the world of nothingness.

I felt as if some black hole could swallow me,
And the ground seemed to get further away.
The sleepy moon was tiny and blurred -
I joined it in the planet of dreams.

This is boring and a plane flight inspired me.

Crashes, crashes
Fire and ashes
Burning all that touch the heat

Scattered, Scattered
The windows shattered
People run from their defeat

The skies are black
The world attacks
You run away so frightened

The air is cold
You cry and fold
Until the truth starts teeming

Your eyes are wide
Why should you hide?
You’re finally enlightened

The skies turn blue
The world is new
As you are lucid dreaming

I took a walk through an abandoned town
Where the Sun kissed the sand
Which had taken the roads
That had once been smooth
But now lay crumbled
Broken veins in a still heart.

And the world was calm and silent
Save for the distant whispering wind
Which blew a memory of a song
Through rotted boards
And broken windows

Where signs and billboards sat gray and dull
As time had taken away their life and color
Left now in ruin and decay
Dying here, amongst forgotten things.

And I was left alone to dream
Of days long past
Fading into rapid obscurity

And the town unblinking and unmoving
Peered uneasily at me, the wandering stranger.

Till I turned around and walked away.

nurses & taxi drivers;
day by day confidants & temporary shrinks.

conversations with strangers, apathy towards their ability to judge.. for once a stranger, a stranger you stay.

as you spit out the truth,
give em your ugliest crying face.
it matches your non-revised monologue,
filled with sharp edges
naked words always sound much more pleasant in your head.

conversations with strangers, a pride free zone.. for once a stranger, a stranger you stay.

nurses & taxi drivers;
day by day confidants & temporary shrinks.

"I hope you have a good day,"
polished with a polite smile & a farewell nod; might as well say
thank you for the patience, I apologize for any inconvenience,
but I must be on my way, for you know me too well,
so a stranger you must stay.

Fine light, shooting stars
Bright blue eyes, conquerors of the world
But not placed in arms of good
They will crawl for comfort in dark

Touch skin so softly, gently
Connect with the outermost emotion
The furthest they can get
Is with a faint smile, forgotten in regret

Head exceeding heights, youth
Weighed against the morals
Lost in swirls of vanity and egoism
Allies becoming bullies of modernization

Conformed to conservative ideas,
They never became revolutionaries
Stuck in their ideologies
Riding waterfalls of puddle depth

Once to come was a new prophet
A deity-like creature to change it all
Horns of truth and hooves of imagination
Ridden by an unidentified threat

An epidemic has a way of being pure,
Rational, original, sensational
Battle for righteousness, kind heart and mind
But a drop doesn't chose the ocean where it lands

Only if we could foresee the future
Seek reality from the far beyond
We were bred for natural disaster
To become the damned new dawn

Oof. I could convey the message better in my mother tongue, but you gotta start somewhere with a "new language", right? You can interpret this however you like :)

this is an old one of mine, but here goes (sorry for the hackneyed metaphor!!):
"the ocean is mesmerizing
clashing crashing crushing
claps of sea
can crush little old
me
i find differences between us
very easily: the sea
is power
rushes riptides —( run)
and i am not
(powerful people can hold to current
swim out of riptide)
the ocean is full of life
breathing swimming holding on
and i am not
i cannot hold on much longer
to this
undercurrent dragging me down
i look at my wrists and see waves
red waves surging and crashing
i look at windows and
see a crash and a fall of me
i can not hold on
i can only watch the calm sea
in the morning as
it hides the inner tempest
(help me, please. i’m drowning)"

I wrote this once during a free period in school. You can see that I wasn't having a great day/week/month...

Being pulled underwater,
Gasping for air.
It has started to consume me.
It just isn’t fair.

The vulnerability,
The helplessness.
My sanity is still here,
But it wouldn’t be if you didn’t care.

The monster screams,
I have her forever.

I won’t let her go,
I won’t let her flee.

Being pulled apart at the seams.

Can’t seem to get away.
Do you see what this is doing to me?
This is not the way it is supposed to be.

It shouldn’t have started again.
I need you now more than ever.
I need you to help me destroy him,
But he is impossible to sever.

I don’t think I can do this,
I don’t think I can.
It is tearing me apart.
Please take me by the hand.

Lead me to the light
Where I will be safe.
Needing you now more than ever,
Please don’t be too late.

I care, I worry,
I love you so much.
My sanity is still here
From your lingering touch.

You’re keeping me on the ground,
I need you to keep doing so.
I promise I’ll get better,
I just can’t promise that it won’t be slow.

It is you that I have found,
It is you that I owe my life to.
And I promise that I will try
To get better for me and for you.

This is a new one of mine.

I can feel her grasping
for things in common,
things to say.

She sits where she is
most comfortable,
not where she wants.

How these things work: until the better one.

Tonight, she is caught
in the seat she desired.

Speak to me
As your eyes rest under the viridian sky
I dig to find your sacrifice
A sacrifice hidden within the shadows
Of our hallowed history

I'll carry you
Away from all the trials, burning with sanctified
Embers of determination
Away from all the blame that forms like ice
Over the dust of the Earth

I shout to you
As silence joins a sky of disappearing hearts
In a midnight resonating
With clouds of hardship and untrespassed dreams
Oh, how I long to save you

When I should just save me
