Okay, so I noticed that there is no thread about the character personalities on Lena Dunham's HBO TV series, "Girls". Anyway, I really love this show and the characters are so rich and funny so I figured I'd give a stab at typing them. Let me know what you think.

Hannah: INFP (I think this one is the most obvious)
Marnie: ENFJ
Jessa: ENTP (?)
Shoshanna: ESFJ
Adam: xNTJ
Charlie: INFJ
Ray: INTJ

I would argue that Jessa, Marnie, and Charlie are all sensors. Or, perhaps, Jessa is an N who wishes that she were an S.

Hannah-- INFP
Marnie-- ISTJ
Jessa-- ESTP
Shoshanna-- ESFJ... completely Te dom.
Adam-- INFx... he is kind of a wild card.
Charlie-- ISFJ
Ray-- xNTP... Ray is definitely not J. I would say most likely ENTP.

I myself am a borderline I/E NFP and so I see a lot of parallels between Hannah and I, but while I definitely lead with Ne, Hannah seems like a total Fi dominant.

Yeah i think that Shoshanna and Hannah are the easiest to type. Now that I have though about it, I can really see marnie's S-ness. I think I had just really wanted her to be an ENFJ because she reminds me of a lot of my close ENFJ friends. I'm still not really convinced of Jessa's S/N. I'm also not really convinced that Adam is really an IxTx although I'm pretty confident that he is a J

Did you mean Fe-dom? Then I definitely agree with you.

She is full of Si and seems too indifferent to be a Feeling type.

Hannah is an infp. Marnie is an estj. Shosana is an esfj. Jessa is harder to type, I don't think she's an estp I think she's an enfp, I think her and hannah have Fi in common, I can see it in a lot of their interactions. Adam is a total istp. I don't know where people are getting intp from.

i'm most confident about the types of Jessa, Hannah and Adam.

I think Jessa is an ENFP type 8w7, which is a rare combination (and kinda my favorite). I think the 8-ness makes people think T - I've had that thought - but she is very secondary Fi.

Hannah is INFP 6 with a strong 4 heart.

Marnie - ESFJ 1w2 (Now I want to re-watch to see if she does in fact seem more Te than Fe, hmm).

Adam - ESTP 7w8 - I've gone back and forth on the F/T, but he ultimately seems to have Ti over Fi - views the world in a logical and systematic manner (which he is rigid about), figuring things from the inside out, etc. Overall he seems very Se-dom to me; his character lives in the present first and foremost, which is a big source of conflict between he and Hannah. Although I could also see ISTP with the way his Fe presents itself. Seems overall like and Extrovert with poor mental health, though.

Charlie - xSFJ and so 2

Ray - xNTP

Hannah: INFP duh
Marnie: ESTJ
Jessa: ESFP
Shoshanna: ESFJ
Adam: INTJ, but I may only think this because he reminds me so much of an INTJ I know
Charlie: INFx
Ray: INTP
Elijah: ESFP (possibly ESFJ?)

i think both jessa and the actress who plays her are ISFPs. jesse is definitely dom-fi and although she does crazy shit sometimes, she's clearly way more mellow usually than ENFPs. she has that languid air about her

I think she's an ENTP. They're fairly reserved extroverts, but clearly don't find it difficult to socialise when the situation calls for it. She travels a lot, and having new and wild experiences are what she deems to be a worthy way of spending time. That seems like a part of the ENTP's natural need for experiences - which they see as gathering information about the world, as opposed to INTP's who gather information through traditional research.

Most of the time, she is not only disinterested in the emotions of others but almost disgusted by it. Basically, she is not altruistic or solicitous like an ISFP would be. Not to mention ISFP's tend to follow their passion without much questioning, they stop at nothing when it comes to pursuing their desires.

Furthermore, she argues for the sake of argument, which is a prominent trait of ENTP's.

naw, she's like one of those deeply feeling, embittered artist people. i know some tormented ISFPs and they're like her. she's like, ironically sociopathic in nature.

ENTPs are VERY different. they are super high energy (jessa may get wild sometimes but she is definitely more on the chill side, in terms of demeanor) and she isn't really intellectual... i haven't seen that Ti come out. do you know any ENTPs? they are VERY VERY different from her. like the way they discuss things and what they discuss... just very different. jessa is all about 'fuck it all' and doesn't really ground anything she does in logic. also, ISFPs tend to be big travelers/wanderers. it's that Se combined with the Fi... they seek new experiences in the environment. she seeks physical experiences/ways to express herself; through sex, painting etc. she's much more concrete than INFPs but she isn't a thinker. she's definitely a bit of an immature, tortured bohemian

I do see your point. But I do know an ENTP. He's on the chill side, but he gets wild especially when he's around people. He was partying pretty hard when he travelled and has a crazy collection of stories. In reference to what you said in an earlier post, you said she prefers to be alone. But I think there's a difference between wanting to be alone and being highly independent, she just simply doesn't rely on anyone, be it a man or friends.

As for how you said "she really isn't intellectual," it's silly to imply all ENTP's are intellectual. MBTI is a way to devise how a person takes in information and interacts with the world. All types can be stupid, conversely, all types can be intelligent.

In regards to not seeing her Ti I think you do see it in her dialogue, what she says is never emotional it's more objective but her objectivity is skewed due to her being a little immature. Either way, Ti is an ENTP's auxiliary function and it is often obscured by their Ne. Not to mention as much as she is well travelled, she really is puerile and mentally unhealthy - which can make ENTP's rely on their inferior Si function.

I admit though, I only know one ENTP. But I do know 3 male ISFP's and 3 female ISFP's of varying tortured states (yeah, they do tend to be kind of tortured ha) but not one of them would treat sex the way Jessa does. Like in first season, how her ex came back in to town and she fucked him to make the point that she cannot be "smoten". The ISFP's I know are very sexual, but generally, it's in the context of relationships (even if they are bad relationships). They just don't treat sex so lightly, even though some of them are pretty messed up. They especially wouldn't use it to make a point, they're more sensitive than that.

Also yeah, she paints, but as far as I can see, (I haven't watched season 3) expressing herself through painting doesn't seem all that important to her. In other words, she seems more like a lost ENTP who does a bit of everything, but mainly, she likes stacking on different experiences, the way she has "all her life" as she says just before separating from that guy she married.

'matter of fact' does not equal Ti. ENTPs are like jon stewart: they need to have their zany intellectual discussions constantly because of how they process the world. and it's glib to say that certain types don't tend to be more heady than others... it's common sense. do you think ESTJs are as outwardly emotional as INFPs?

I was meaning to get back to you to say I was wrong and I completely agree with you. I knew much less about mbti and the cognitive functions back then. Shallow knowledge on my part. Jessa is more than likely a ISFP.

The rest of my guesses:

Adam ISTP?
Ray INTx
Hannah ENFP
Marnie ESFJ

Sort of hard to guess the characters in this show though.
