Hi there! I'm an ENFP as well... I think in real life I've only met four or so, at different times in my life. I've always really liked them :3

How can you tell when you've met another ENFP? I thought I knew a lot of ENFPs after they took the test I found out only 2 were ENFP and the rest where ESTP. From your experience how can you distinguish between the two clearly?

They are so different to me I'm really surprised they get mixed up ever. ENFPs are feelers first and foremost, they act like space cadets, they speak so tangentially the ESPs get continually lost but the ESTPs tend to do a better job catching up. With ESTPs the Ti is so obvious it's like talking to an emotional vacuum. They can be animated, motivated, observant, and perceptive like ENFPs also can be, but there is an emotional quality that is absolutely lacking. ESTPs don't tend to relate to others other than in a Ti motivated way (I love the way they think) or to use them to further their endeavors. ENFPs relate to people to figure them out and get satisfaction out of helping and 'fixing' people a lot.

My brother and several long-time friends of mine are ESTPs. I obviously am an ENFP, as are a few of my friends and one of my current professors. The tl;dr in telling us apart from ESTPs is the area of focus. ESTPs often want to improve others and make their mark on the world, and ENFPs want to improve the world and make their mark on others.

OMG I can see the differences now, when thinking about it. Thanks ^^

If you just discovered it and just found out, how do you know that you understand it well enough to make a determination about how many you've met?

How many descriptions have you read? What were the sources? Did they come with exemplars? Did you watch videos of them? Read biographical accounts? Discussions with debates about disputed typings? Personal accounts by people who self-type this way? How long ago was "just"?

And perhaps more importantly, do you think because I ask you these things that it makes me a J or a T?

ENFPs are probably one of my favourite ones. I’m aware that, being an ENTP, you F folks sometimes don’t understand my/our T side, and that’s probably where we crash, but on the other side I’m terribly drawn towards your irresistible charming and optimistic part.
I know quite a lot of ENFPs (four, at least, though I’m not entirely sure about one of them) and I absolutely adore spending time with them =)
