So, I'm in the middle of a never ending root canal. Two sessions with the first pretty much getting the "pulp" and a temp filling. The second consisting of another additional irrigation and dressing for the root canal.

I don't know anything about dentistry but after the second visit I get side swiped by a "gum treatment" that is part of fixing the root canal. I asked the receptionist whether I needed this and it all sounded like bollocks to me. It looked like expensive bollocks at that.

What is this gum treatment? Why would I "need" it before completion of a root canal?

I'm hoping that there are people who know something about this.

EDIT: I should add that my gums are pink and not sore.....just like they've been all my life.
