Yes. We were apart for 3.5 months (after living together for years) and it is much better now.

We didn't see each other for that entire time, and only talked intermittently. We needed to decide if we wanted to be together, to work on our relationship, and honestly sort out our own personal issues that were contributing to our problems as a couple. I can truly say that I don't think we would be together or be doing this well if we hadn't had that time apart.

It may not seem like a lot, but if you haven't spent more than 10 days apart for years and then don't see your partner for almost four months and know you may never see them again, it is pretty intense.

In summary though, I think if you are at a serious break-down stage of a relationship you want to save, taking time apart may be the best thing to re-frame it.
