I am posting to get opinions on my core type and tri-type. I do already have some ideas about which type I am, but being new I suppose I should seek other perspectives.

Main Questions

1. What drives you in life? What do you look for?

I seek to know myself thoroughly and to gain knowledge. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of myself, as well as the world. I want to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. The possibility of a future with many new experiences keeps me trudging through the monotony of life.

2. What do you hope to accomplish in your life?

To be genuinely happy. Right now it seems out of reach. I want to leave an impact somewhere, whether through my own accomplishments or in reaching out to others. I have high ideals that I hope may reconcile with reality one day. I want to receive acceptance for who I am.

3. What do you hope to avoid doing or being? What values are important to you?

I avoid being unknowledgeable, hypocritical or fake. I value being sincere, genuine, self-aware, introspective and curious. To never take things as it appears on the surface, to be able to analyze. Questioning, seeking new information.

4. What are your biggest fears (not including phobias)? Why?

To be rendered completely dependent on others, to completely lose my sense of self, and to lose control of my emotions. (Consequently causing me to become irrational)

5. How do you want others to see you? How do you see yourself?

I want others to see me as an intelligent, rational, deep, thoughtful, empathetic, individualistic person. I see myself as self-centered, stubborn, judgmental, introspective, straightforward, critical and honest.

6. What makes you feel your best? What makes you feel your worst?

I feel at my best when I receive acceptance and understanding, and when I receive recognition for my ideas and criticisms. I feel at my worse when my character and feelings are invalidated, and when my ideas and theories are completely shot down by other people, making me feel inferior and foolish.

7. Describe how you experience each of: a) anger; b) shame; c) anxiety.

a) Whenever great anger comes, it is explosive. I am always embarrassed at the aftermath because I failed to control my emotions properly at that moment. I am temperamental and have a rather short temper. Normally if I’m angry, I become brooding and melancholy, and start nit-picking on everything.

b) I experience shame on a constant basis. I am quite harsh on myself and never fail to point out how this person is so much better than me at this thing etc. Even so, I often end up admiring said person and wish to learn from him or her that particular trait and successfully integrate my interpretation of it into my personality so that I can become a better person.

c) I start panicking and am often driven to tears. At the core of it I think it is because I am wholly unprepared for the consequences.

8. Describe how you respond to each of: a) stress; b) unexpected change; c) conflict.

a) I become gloomy and critical, and I may cry. Under great stress I shut down and feel weighed down, and occasionally contemplate suicide. My emotional need for someone becomes great and I may also view myself as persecuted, depending on the source of the stress.

b) I am surprised by it, but try to adapt and go with the flow.

c) I am confrontational when necessary. I am not one to back down from conflict. When conflict crops up I walk away from it, take a moment to understand and analyze the situation, and effectively come up with a solution which allows both parties to compromise.

9. Describe your orientation to: a) authority; b) power. How do you respond to these?

a) I am not very concerned about authority. If they are doing a great job, good, if not, I would criticize the systems and policies they enacted, and be done with it. As long as I get to maintain my autonomy and independence, and do not feel stifled by the system, I have fine just minding my own business.

b) I am unable to handle the responsibility that comes with power. I reject power, and I reject people in power who seek to control me.

10. What is your overall outlook on life and humanity?

I am very cynical about humanity and life. I think humanity has doomed itself with the direction they’re taking, yet in comparison with my friends, I realize I am still somewhat idealistic about humanity and the small gems in them. As for life, it seems very monotonous, with occasional bits of excitement and joy.

5w4 4w5 8w9. Not sure at all about instincts.

Type 5 seems to come out very strongly along with lots of 4 influences. I'm also confident there is a type 8 somewhere (or at the very least an 8 wing).

This is just an impression I'm getting, I hope it won't confuse you.

Sorry, but you're a 6 xD
5s have far less desire to be accepted than you pointed out in your first several questions. 6s have a sort of inner battle against being dependent on someone, as well; 5s are naturally independent to the point of detachment. 6s are also insanely curious, they want answers so they feel better about their actions; 5s are curious so they can avoid the world.

I think you have a 1 fix. Saw no convincing reasons for the other gut types.

Heart fix is a little tougher for me to see. I'm stuck between 2 and 4 for you; I didn't see many obvious 3 things. Leaning towards 4.

Final impression:
6w7-1w9-4w5
Actually the same as my tritype, and I was surprised when I came to this conclusion :p

Interesting. Do sixes constantly get accused of being self-centered/selfish/self-absorbed and detached on the outside? Many 6 descriptions I read put an emphasis on their ability to network, which I am terrible at. I initially typed myself as 4w5, but now I'm reconsidering. How do you differentiate between 4 and 6? I read the misidentifications and nothing stuck out particularly for me to favour 1 type over the other. And it seems like 6 are mostly characterised by their anxiety. How do I recognize it in me? I personally only saw the envy dominating which 4s are famous for. I am huge for personal growth, and I have to admit that I'm a little miffed that I was possibly barking up the wrong tree the whole time. ( I identified as 4 for a year or so before being motivated to post this. )

You seem like a reactive type. That would leave 4, 6 and 8. I think we can rule out 8 from your tritype based on what you wrote here.

Another thing would be that imo both 4 and 6 are in your tritype and my guess is that your gut fix is enneagram type 1, as you don't seem to favor any of the 8s or 9s motivations.

Overall tritype imo: 1-4-6 (which is my tritype as well. I'm a 6w7 1w2 4w5 and yes I can relate to a lot of things you mentioned in your initial post. If you wish I can go into details)

It is unclear to me what order your 1-4-6 has. Some things point towards being a 6 core, some towards 4 and some to 1.

If you wish an answer to your question, yes I as a 6 am detached and distant from others on the outside/have problem expressing myself, especially emotionally..its odd. I suck at networking and social stuff as well. So much better at questioning, figuring out the truth, answers to problems, etc. (minus figuring out my MBTI type..that one is proving to be a challenge).

Why 5-4-1? My original personal conclusion was 4-5-1 but I'm open to other perspectives.
Well I have been wanting to be typed as well with tritype and for me personally I'm fairly confident now that I'm 5w4 4w5 8w7 and seeing @Overflow typing you as that struck a nerve in me I guess, either I'm miss-typed or you are, so I simply pointed out question 3 & 5 that suggests 1 over 8, without bothering to double-check 5. 4 is quite obvious though. So 1, 4 & 6 as suggested by @Paradigm and @Rim like seems to be your three, but in what order I trust them more than me.

c) I am confrontational when necessary. I am not one to back down from conflict. When conflict crops up I walk away from it, take a moment to understand and analyze the situation, and effectively come up with a solution which allows both parties to compromise.
<===this makes you not a 9.

<===this makes you not an 8.

By logic this means your gut type is E1. Of this I'm sure.

3. What do you hope to avoid doing or being? What values are important to you?

I avoid being unknowledgeable, hypocritical or fake. I value being sincere, genuine, self-aware, introspective and curious. To never take things as it appears on the surface, to be able to analyze. Questioning, seeking new information.
..and your answers above it are showing signs of E1, E4, E5 and E6, some E7. I don't think I need to elaborate on those.

4. What are your biggest fears (not including phobias)? Why?

To be rendered completely dependent on others, to completely lose my sense of self, and to lose control of my emotions. (Consequently causing me to become irrational)
This makes me believe you are self preservation first (SP).

Why do you want acceptance and understanding? The above makes you seem very dependent on other's perception of you, which contradicts parts of E4 and E5. Initially I was thinking 1-4-5, but then this came along and I noticed the pattern in your post, which made me think maybe E6 is a better choice then 5.

The other answers below seem to reinforce E1 E4 E5 and E6 and the whole post speaks of a reactive type, in which case you can't be E5 core.

The possible explanations are reduced to 4w5 5w4 (or 5w6) 1w9 || 6w7 (or 6w5) 4w5 1w9 and I think you are Sp first. (probably Sp/Sx)

While I do relate to you, esp to your outlook on life, the perfectionism, need for knowledge and questioning, shame, anger anxiety ( but I don't cry :) ), your needs etc etc <.< I am not you.

I can especially relate to wanting people to accept me the way I am. Its an ideal, one out of my control and no matter how much I'd want it...its a waste of energy worrying about or actively trying to make it work. Things outside of our control cause suffering when we attempt to influence them....always.

Also reality is what it is, no matter what my or your opinion on your type is :). So keep questioning.

Yeah, I imagine some do. I've been accused multiple times of being "detached" from my emotions. There's obviously going to be some "selfish" 6s somewhere. Personally, I don't remember being accused of being selfish, but came to realize I truly was.

Many 6 descriptions I read put an emphasis on their ability to network, which I am terrible at.
That's either type 3 or (almost any) social-first. I don't think you're soc-first. The descriptions for 6s tend to be biased towards the so/sp phobic types.

I initially typed myself as 4w5, but now I'm reconsidering. How do you differentiate between 4 and 6? I read the misidentifications and nothing stuck out particularly for me to favour 1 type over the other.
For you? It was the way you kept saying you wanted knowledge, which is more of a head type thing to say. There's also a strong superego influence I noticed, though like myself I imagine you often "ignore" what it's telling you.

And it seems like 6 are mostly characterised by their anxiety. How do I recognize it in me? I personally only saw the envy dominating which 4s are famous for.
How old are you? Is anything stressful going on in your life? Part of it depends on life experiences making us hyper-sensitive to certain things. Another thing is to ask how you personally define envy. It might not be how a 4 would define/feel it. And all humans are envious at some point about something.

I'd say, tentatively, 6s feel more cheated than jealous... "Sixes are head types that view the world as inherently unpredictable. They feel they came into an everchanging world without blueprints that account for the vagaries of life and have to play catchup."

Anxiety... It's hard to say, tbh. Everyone is different. @Rim mistyped as a 4w5 at first, so maybe he could explain how he "discovered" his anxiety. Though I will say that, quite frankly, most descriptions over-state how anxious 6s are, and even some 6s over-state how anxious 6s are.

Read the descriptions I gave you. They're the best two sites I've come across.

I am huge for personal growth, and I have to admit that I'm a little miffed that I was possibly barking up the wrong tree the whole time. ( I identified as 4 for a year or so before being motivated to post this. )
Lots of people mistype. They say it's part of the learning process, even. Don't get too upset. Could be a 4 after all, anyways. :)

Thank you for the in-depth analysis. Well, I feel flawed in a sense and just want people to see my whole self, warts and all, and just like me for who I am? I do understand that it is impossible for one to understand me 100%. I don't exactly seek confirmation that people do like me, but when they do I feel more... normal, not like the mutated being that I think I am. (Internally) I guess I'm just avoiding misunderstanding and rejection, and I don't want people to have the wrong idea of me and be disappointed when they see the true me.

In regards to my ideas and theories it really only impacts me when I have worked on it for a long time and it meets my high ideals, and I feel happy when someone confirms that it was worth the effort I put into it, and miffed when someone shoots it down, especially if there is no concrete evidence or because of bias. I would accept constructive criticism though, but I do feel unhappy if I'm told the entire idea/premise is flawed.

I saw that you were an INFP for a period of time (I was lurking for quite some time before joining x) ), that could also be why you can relate to me, cause I'm INFP too. :)

Heh I realized the 'selfish' comment actually only came from the Fe users I know, all the Fi-users I knew are fine with me, maybe its a Fe vs Fi thing.

I admittedly was trying to play up my rational side, because I'm going through a period where I feel the need to shut down my feelings and emotional side. I despise myself for being emotionally volatile and dramatic and self-pitying. I'm 17, still a teenager and immature. Looong way to go.

I define envy as.... being jealous of what others have that I don't, and consequently feeling resentful towards myself. I always compare. If I was jealous of how someone could socialize so easily and be affable, I'll seek to outdo the person in another area (like academia) just to have a sense of superiority about myself. I suspect the need to feel superior comes from an inferiority complex. I am extremely competitive. If I wasn't superior in anything relative to the people that are on my radar, I'll lose my sense of self. I don't want to be the loser and be looked down on by others. I realize this paragraph is making me sound pathetic and hypocritical, but oh well. Honesty. How the hell do I even have friends with this attitude... Maybe its because I try to tone down my elitism around them.

I read them. Interesting. related to some areas, didn't relate to others. But 6 is definitely a type I'm considering now, because no description is going to describe me 100% accurately anyway.

Thanks. :) You're right, the journey may prove to reveal things about myself I wasn't aware was there.

o.o yeah...I'm probably INFP as well, I mean I keep coming back to it....not all that sure..but it seems like it.

Within the enneagram I originally mistyped as 4w5, then 9w1 then 5w4..very short spell of thinking I was a 2 and it took people 3 months to convince me I was a 6 (it was obvious I just decided not to see it). The descriptions aren't all that good either and I was in denial of many things. You are right no description will be 100% and people are just different from others even in the same type.

In this system it is the motivation that counts, figure out the motivation that drives you the most and you find your type (you may or may not be aware of it, I wasn't). Good luck, self exploration is always valuable.

You were very close with your original estimation imo.
