I have a friend who appears very serious and almost antisocial outwardly- almost uncaring looking. However, he is actually an extremely caring individual. If you tell him about an issue close to you, he will first thank you for sharing him and then reassure you that he will do his best to help you and will be there for any further issues; often, he will trust you with personal information in return and will empathize with you. He strongly values personal relations and the opinions of others- he is rather insecure and is near constantly apologizing when he thinks he has come off as too silly or if he thinks he has offended someone, etc and is a very genuine person. He can be awkward to talk to one-on-one. He is sarcastic and has a good sense of humor but is often apologizing for his jokes. He is a lover of music (typically, the heavier and darker sort) and plays electric guitar, and is pretty obsessed with movies (especially Star Wars) but as far as I can tell displays little affinity for other forms of the arts, besides occasional pleasure reading.
Any ideas? All I can figure out is that he is clearly an introvert.

He sounds like IXFX, but without more info specifically about the other two components, it's hard to know more. (Any type can like music and movies.)

Whatever he is, it sounds like he hasn't had the most caring environment (always apologizing for himself). Sad for him :(

MBTI helps discern your preferences on four scales: how you interact with the world (E vs I), how you perceive and take in information (N vs S), how you prefer to make decisions (T vs F), and how you relate to the outside world (P vs J).

A generalized description of a specific scenario doesn't provide much insight on your friend's type. Does your friend appear to be more harmony-based or task-based (F vs T)? Do they seem to like leaving things open-ended or do they tend to feel the weight of obligation on their shoulders (P vs J)? It can be harder to determine N or S, but generally oral creativity and the ability to read between the lines is associated with intuition.
