How do you React to Clumsiness?

Everyone reacts differently to situations where someone has had an accident like spilling something, or bumping into things, or tripping, or pushing too hard on a door so it flies open, or knocking things over, etc. and I would guess there's probably certain reactions more common with certain types.

Some people laugh it off and seem to be genuinely amused (as long as no one got seriously hurt)
Some rush to help and reassure
Some just start directing the clean up
Some stand by feeling embarrassed, or awkwardly try to ignore anything happened
Some roll their eyes or 'tisk tisk' impatiently
Some scold and 'advise' with things like 'watch where you're going'
Some ridicule or make fun of someone with a biting joke

I was thinking about these different reactions and it sort of struck me that personally I have never viewed clumsiness as a problem or something that bothers me about other people who seem 'accident prone'. Obviously some people do find it annoying and I had a tentative speculation that this has to do with how much one values Competence. Since competence seems to be particularly important to Thinkers, it seems likely that more Ts would have a negative view of clumsiness than Feelers, but then I also wondered if people with strong Fe might be more uncomfortable with clumsiness because it may disrupt the smooth social interactions. So I thought I'd ask everyone here how they view clumsiness and how much patience you have for it. This also touches on one's sense of humor, as it seems likely that people who are annoyed by clumsiness will be less likely to enjoy 'slapstick' style comedy.

I had to make the poll relatively simple, but if you'd care to add a comment explaining your usual reaction, or pick one of those listed above I'd be most interested :)

I kind of just watch. If humorous I laugh but otherwise I don't care. A friend of mine once tripped and smacked her face on the floor. I wont even lie, I started laughing, but then stopped and helped her up. Then started laughing again and got hit by her.

I can relate with clumsy people because I have tripped on too many cracks and crashed into too many street light poles. It depends on the person and situation, but I would most likely rush to the person if the injuries are serious. If it's a slip, I wouldn't immediately bring in attention and jump in.

sometimes it's funny, not if it's a serious accident or anything.

if they are in a public area and lots of people see it and they seem embarrassed, my heart goes out to them

usually i react empathetically i guess, i would like to go over and help them if they seem like they want it, but i might be too shy/reserved to act on that impulse

I'll do what is appropriate. If to act like it never happened is appropriate, I'll do that. If to help is, I'll do that.

In high school, with hundreds of kids chatting away in the cafeteria loudly, anyone who dropped anything to take their lunch up or sit down or whatever, would silence the place; everyone would stop what they're doing, turn around, look at that person, and clap. Happened every time. One tray or plate hitting the ground, everyone stops what they are doing and does that. Round of applause from everybody.

I'm not bothered by it, because I can be pretty clumsy too. But I don't want to help. If I'm right next to the person, I will, but usually I'll walk slow and avoid eye contact so that someone else gets there first to help.

I'll just watch and think it's funny, also feel bad for them.
I just laugh.... Whether its myself or someone else... I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't just laugh. This whole thread topic/poll is taking everything too seriously. Lighten up! Clumsiness is pretty much always funny. Unless someone gets really hurt. Even then, its still funny later, after the injury is dealt with.

I feel bad when it happens, and I don't find it funny. . especially if the person seems embarrassed about it.
I am a bit bothered but I won't help-nor laugh- unless it's a friend. In that case I'll help her up.
It's funny and I usually laugh. If the same person frequently does clumsy things to the point where they become annoying and unreliable then it becomes an issue and I get annoyed.
How can I not tolerate it? I used to be clumsy, I'm better at it now, but when I'm tired, or stressed, I can turn corners too tight, or miss a step.

Context. One off and nothing important, help them. Everyone has clumsy moments. Repetitive and breaking stuff, at a certain point, I lose patience for it. Get your shit together. What the hell was that?

I had a friend who was clumsy. When she started driving, my patience began to wear thin. She would park up suddenly in a major city blocking traffic and giggle. 'Could you parallel park the car? I just need to get cash out.' I had people honking at me as I'm scrambling into the drivers side and honking at the person behind me to back up and having to bully my way into a parking spot because of this shit. Overall her driving sucked. She seemed to struggle to stay in her lane. She screwed up with her signals. And had coordination issues screwing up gas and brake. I'm guessing her Dad paid off whoever tested her to get her license, I don't even know. She was too clumsy and oblivious to be driving and didn't recognize that while she hadn't been in an accident, she was leaving a trail of accidents behind her. At some point, I lost patience and paid for defensive driving lessons for her. I still don't think someone that clumsy and oblivious should be driving.

Some people are just horribly coordinated and I'm shocked how people around them don't seem to catch onto just how bad it is. 'You just caused an accident.' 'What?' 'Right there! Look! Right there! You were too busy dialing that number to see that guy avoid you and side swipe the other car. What are you doing?! Wake up!'

Clumsy people can be dangerous. It gets played off as cute and okay. But when it's always happening, it's not cute at all.

I would say neither of these options.

-I don't find it annoying.
-I don't want to help.

Actually most of the time I go out of my way to avoid helping.

That is my preferred method of dealing with it . . .

I'm usually that clumsy person. :blushed:

Well, probably want to help if there's no one else helping, since I'm shy and won't do it if someone else responds before me.

I might laugh, regardless of how serious it is. It's a coping mechanism from stress and awkwardness when I'm in a situation in which I don't know how to react to. I find it a bit embarrassing and annoying because I don't want to appear insensitive.

I'll usually laugh, and ask if they're okay, poke fun at them (depending on what happened and my relationship with them), and try to help (that is pretty automatic). I'm super clumsy myself, like suuuper much, and I am defensive towards those who are annoyed by it :p Humans are full of folly. We already pay the price for it, in literal pain, so leave us alone!

I can understand people being nervous about their own belongings potentially getting ruined by clumsy people, though. And when you endanger others by being careless where it could be prevented, that's an issue. Like careless driving isn't okay.

But normal every day clumsiness, you also never know if someone has a motor issue, or some other legitimate reason. I just let these things go.
