Hi there,

I was wondering if any of you could tell me how I could figure out whether I use an Fe-Ti thought process or a Te-Fi thought process (which might tell me whether I really am an ISTJ or if I am actually an ISFJ).

I have read many of the definitions for each of these four functions. When I read about them, I kind of feel like I have a hard time relating to some of them. Like, I might relate somewhat to Fe, but then I think "I can't be responsible for the way someone feels" because that seems logical--I can't fix everything. But in a way I feel like I am. Or in another sense, I think Te is a terribly harsh thought process because it's comparing something to see whather it meets a standard. It's almost too objective to relate to (at least from the definitions I have read). Ditto about Fi and Ti--I think I use a lot of Fi (from where I get my moral values? but I guess there are other ways to come by moral values as well.)

Can someone tell me how each one works and maybe provide me with some examples? Possibly I have just read too much about the functions and have confused myself as to what functions I trully use. You know, the foreman effect.

Do you have any other solid ways for me to tell the difference between an ISFJ and an ISTJ? I feel like the two types are so similar.

Thanks! :)

Have you compared any descriptions of the two personality types? Otherwise I suggest looking around the internet for a few, as that helped me in working out my type and not get too stuck in the cognitive processes... The Personality Type Portraits for instance...

I have also seen many people here refer to Understanding the Eight Jungian Cognitive Processes / Eight Functions Attitudes , but maybe you've checked that already as well...?

added: you could check these as well:

Fe reacts to 'socially illogical' things in the outside environment such as people criticizing others for no good reason, somebody doing a nice thing for someone else and that person then behaving selfishly, stuff like that. Fe tracks give-and-take process in relationships to see that it is fair, not just your own relationships but between other people as well. Fe pays attention to social hierarchy of people, notes little details about others that will help you understand who they are and their relationships with those around me. My Fe makes me sensitive to conflict between people which doesn't involve me at all. It also makes me like belonging to some groups of people.

May be it is just me but it seems like because my feeling is extraverted I do not feel much when I am by myself alone introverting. I only feel my Ni and Ti acting (Ti can be self-critical). Opposed to this I feel more emotion when I am with others. I believe this is different for TeFi types. Because their emotion is introverted I think they feel more emotional when they are alone introverting. But when interacting with world outside it is their Te that gets used. Te responds to things in environment that are illogical. TJs may judge other people on this criteria. I have weak sense of Te but I would say things like breaking laws and not paying bills on time seems to set Te off quite a bit. In comparison Ti is more like sneaky lawyer logic that doesn't see outside laws and order as absolute but rather arbitrary. Ti to Te thus can seem impractical as Fi can seem selfish to Fe.
