Oh god, I can hear him! I'm being stalked by a robot. Alright, let's make this short.

I'm a chronic sufferer of anxiety and depression, and I'm on a quest to find lasting contentment and inner peace. I believe that figuring out who I am and what I want will allow me to accomplish these goals, which is why I'm researching the Myers Briggs system.

I know which four letter combination I probably am, especially since I've scored it on most of the online tests I've found as well as on a questionnaire in my psychology class a few years ago. A problem I've run into is that the descriptions of this type don't entirely suit me, and the stereotypes definitely don't. I thought I could get around this issue by looking up personality descriptions and choosing the type that best matched me, but this only resulted in more confusion. Three types of descriptions and their corresponding sets of stereotypes suit me about equally well. "Okay," I thought, "I'll find real examples of these types on the internet. I'll have my girlfriend take a Jungian questionnaire and see what she gets, as we're extremely similar."

I found that I best identified with two out of the three types when I found human representatives of them. My girlfriend scored as the third type, and her description, stereotypes, and human representations fit her like a glove. She insists that I'm the same type as her, not realizing that I act differently around her because she's special to me. So anyway, I lurked websites such as this one, trying to figure out... no...NO!

HE'S HERE! SAVE YOURSELVES! NO, I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU DANCE! SPARE ME, SPARE ME!

Welcome the the forum.
I wonder how much your responses on the tests are you and how much it is the depressed mood. Just as with your girlfriend you behave differently, the test taking mode is not necessarily who you are.
The real you is not defined by the answers on the test: in fact, the MBTI is at best an incomplete assessment.

On anxiety/depression - one can cause, or certainly exacerbate the other. Anxiety is a real downer - anxiety and panic attacks will depress someone. One way I have tackled anxiety is to work through the worst thing that might happen in a given situation, and devise a coping strategy to cope. Then my inner demon -metaphorically - kicked in another dire possibility - same treatment. I ended up with a nested stack of possibilities and coping strategies, with multiple branches - like a "tree" made of paper conical cups -until the whole thing collapsed into itself.

And the parody of a John Wayne marines pinned down on the beach getting their collective asses shot off, "Come on, men, they may kill you but they won't eat you!" and knowing that their loved ones would get their bodies back encouraged the troops to charge into the massed yellow horde and die dramatically. The ludicrous mental picture seems to erase anxious feelings.

In a kingdom far away and long ago, a king caught two of his trusted ministers stealing grain from the royal storehouse and selling it. They were brought before the king who sentenced them to death. One of the condemned spoke up: "O King, you are just and we are guilty. But if you will spare or lives, I will teach your horse to sing."
The king thought a minute or two, and said, "I give you one year. And if the horse does not sing, then you will be put to death.'
On leaving the other thief said, "Why did you do that? I had made my goodbyes and prepared myself to die. Now I will have to do it all over again."
The first thief answered, " In a year the king may die. In a year I may die. But I will have that time to enjoy my family and friends. And who knows, In a year the horse may sing."

So if you can lay the fears and the anxiety aside for a year - difficult but possible - maybe, before the year is out, the horse will sing. . .
