And it’s a problem because it makes me feel like a freak. I get the feeling that most women don’t think or talk about sex a whole lot. But I don’t get it. Why wouldn’t you want to do something that is so pleasurable? And why is sex such a taboo subject?

Sex is amazing when you do it right, but unfortunately many women don't and it's not always their fault, rather they fall into the trap of believing that they can't have pleasurable sex so they don't 'demand' it, so to speak. Their expectations are low because of certain underlying notions that affect mostly young people who are just entering the world of sex, who are also likely already watch a lot of porn.

because for the vast majority of human history, women have needed to be a lot more careful about this decision than men did. a hasty decision about who to have sex with could (in a worst case scenario) get her pregnant; risking her life or completely upheaving her life, while the man could just disappear if he felt like it.

the modern world is only the tiniest slice of human history.

birth control changes this emotional landscape somewhat but doesn't get rid of it completely.

I LOVE sex

And why is sex such a taboo subject?
As far as social perception is concerned, if you're a guy such a proclamation makes you a pig and if you're a woman it makes you a... well, something else.

The problem is that many women say they like sex with their words, but all too often their actions communicate a different story entirely. Many women go to great lengths to avoid sex, charge obscene amounts of money in exchange for their participation or otherwise add stipulation after stipulation after stipulation in order to earn their consent. So surely you can understand why it might seem bizarre that women claim they enjoy sex with their words while simultaneously refusing it time and time again.

That’s true. Men and women alike can be viewed poorly if they love sex. But I have sex with my spouse at least 5 times a week (happily!)

Insecure men do not like real women who enjoy sex.
Society does not like sex
Religion does not like sex

Go back 2000 years. The local tribesmen thought how can I control all these people? I know! They all like sex so if I make rules about it being dirty, disgusting, shameful , ban homosexuality, ban incest, ban most forms of sex unless it is for having babies then I will be able to punish them for breaking those rules and hitherto have control over them

You, to the male species, are like the reformers, freedom fighters, etc lol.

If womenhood is the oppressive government/regime that has stigmatized sex, made it taboo, don't talk about it openly, think professing enjoyment of it is abhorrent, think men are icky for even being attracted to them, etc...

... then you're like the reformer, the freedom fighter 'of the people' who speaks up and bravely speaks truth to power, incites movements, starts revolutions with their incendiary broadsides aimed at the existing power structure.
"And I say to you, women and men alike, why is it that the entrenched woman power structure seeks to silence our god-given inalienable right to fleshly pleasures?? Why must we shroud and conceal our libido, our slimy penny juice and erect phallae!?"

"For I, like you my brethren, have been made to feel a freak... but I say, from this day forth - we let our freak flag fly!!!! If they seek to brand us via this way - I say - let us hang them by that noose! We shall reorganize life's parameters around that construct, and make them the odd ones out!!! They cannot silence us, brothers and sisters!!! For we are the eye of Eros, the face of Venus, the power of Rati!!!"

"They may take our lives... but they'll never take... our libido!!!"

Okay that's usually a fair statement.

Me too. There's actually a lot of us out there I think. Just socially/culturally there are a lot of taboos against women embracing sex (others have touched on the myriad reasons), and there's the point about a lot of women not having learned how to have pleasurable sex (longer foreplay is typically key). I am irritated with the amount of "hollow" sexuality out there... like marketing, advertisement, porn. It is pervasive. Yet basic biological human sexuality is good and healthy and comes in many different varieties. There is so much more than "do not want" versus "freak". The great news is - I think increasingly this is coming to light. People are loosening up (ha) and learning more.

It’s interesting to consider all of the social consequences and implications of being intelligent diploid organisms, and even more interesting to see each personality type’s take on that.

Assuming these women do like sex, their actions tell a different story likely because they are not attracted enough to do it yet. Can't have good sex without attraction.

Plenty of women love [good] sex and talking about [bad] sex. Maybe the problem is the folks you hang around?

Maybe they are refusing a specific person?

I like to eat.. but I am not going to pick shit up from the street and eat it... right?

I wonder why this seems bizarre to you... it seems quite straightforward to me.

Hahahaha! Well, perhaps. But I’m more interested if other women actually feel like I do and they are just wearing a mask of prudishness, or if they are actually against sex most of the time
