I had a lot of fun with the other music thread I made about painting a picture of your musical tastes in 50 songs (Link)and people seemed to enjoy participating. So I tried to think of ways to keep going and learning more about everyone's tastes. Here are a bunch of lists and questions to hopefully achieve that  I put all the questions with blank answer space in the code at the bottom for easier copying and pasting. I know this is a huge post and takes awhile to answer, but I thought it was fun sitting, looking through, and finding all the songs that answer these questions. Have fun!

"Da Da Da" by Trio

I can't remember any more.

Name a song that somehow always picks you up from a bad mood and you don't know why:

I went through a bubblegum pop phase when I was single-digit age in the late 90s.
Can you play any of the songs you've listed on an instrument?
No, but I can play a little bit of "Three Little Pigs" by Green Jelly on guitar and I'm pretty sure I could play "My Immortal" by Evanescence on piano if I had the sheet music. I took piano long ago, and I just still have the feel for it when I'm reminded of fingering and all.

I don't understand, wouldn't all of your top 15 studio albums be by your favorite artists? Unless they were soundtracks? I'm just ignoring this question altogether.
A few bands that everyone is surprised to find out you don't like and don't listen to most (if not all) of their music:
Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, basically every female singer-songwriter under the sun.

Nope...I'd love to play an instrument though...someday!

There's only one song I like....that George Michael one (& I'm embarrassed to admit it)....otherwise, I hate it.

A lot of whatever is really popular now...Katy Perry is one. I only know who she is because her music is played in stores a lot.

I listen to a very wide variety of things, from death metal to dub, progressive to industrial, and even a super tiny bit of pop that doesn't completely suck arse, and some that does.

Can you play any of the songs you've listed on an instrument?

not many of the listed ones.

25. Merle Haggard "Mama Tried"

15 Songs most people who know you wouldn't believe you own, much less you like listening to them:

I own about 1000 CD's so I don't think anyone would be surprised that I own anything and my music taste is all over the place so again, I don't think anyone would think I was weird for liking something if they don't already think I'm weird. So I'll just put down songs that are somewhat crude or bad that I kind of like.

1. Sin With Sebastian "Shut Up and Sleep With Me"
2. Suicide "Girl"
3. The Smears "Cum into my Mouth" (uh yeah, gross but I think it's funny)
4. Nirvana "Rape Me"
5. Scorpions "Don't Make No Promises (that your body can't keep)"
6. ummmmmmm I can't think of anything else. I have a hard time judging my music taste.... sorry

10 Embarassing songs you rarely if ever admit you have in your collection:

When I was 15, for a few months I really liked pop punk and thus I have a few Screeching Weasel and Queers albums. Pretty embarrassed about those. I keep them hidden. I don't know about "songs" though, I come from a different time than you guys I guess. I own albums, not songs. sorry to disappoint

5 songs that you learned about very recently and really loved:

I am currently obsessed with Scorpions for some reason so I'll name my current top five of theirs:
1. Falling in Love
2. Animal Magnetism
3. Make it Real
4. No One Like You (duh!)
5. In Trance
I'm adding a 6th - Sails of Charon :)

Name a song that somehow always picks you up from a bad mood and you don't know why:

"You Burn Me Up and Down" - We the People (I highly recommend watching the video for this on youtube, it's the sexiest video I have ever seen, very very subtle, but amazing!)
or "Itchicoo Park" by The Small Faces. Two '60s songs, but I just find them both incredibly sexy.

Say something about your music interests that people would be really surprised to find out:

I don't really know what people you are talking about, but perhaps the people on this forum. I'll say I love old country music. LOVE it and I don't know why more of you don't like it. It's so raw and emotional. So powerful! Hank Williams Sr is my hero. On top of old country music, I am a big fan of psychedelic rock, '60s garage rock and just anything that really rocks. People probably think I'm retro but I can't help it, it's what really speaks to me.

Can you play any of the songs you've listed on an instrument?

YES I CAN and I do. I am in a country band and we play all of the country songs I listed on there. And also a few of the rockers, like "I'm the Wolfman". I get to growl in that one.

Christmas is coming in less than 2 months. When Christmas comes around, do you love hearing all the Christmas music, or can you not stand it?
I get pretty annoyed with it. Mainly because it seems like it's just trying to get people to buy presents.

A few songs you completely hate and cannot stand to listen to:

That "Lady Lumps" song
any of that new robot/booty/dance music where is sounds like the singer is a robot (vocoder). So FAKE. It makes me violent.
Also, I have always loathed the song "Escapade" by Janet Jackson.

15 Studio albums that you love the most and are your absolute favorites. Try to limit yourself to no more than 3 of your favorite artists' albums, but it isn't a requirement  :

1. The Pandoras - It's About Time
2. The Muffs - Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow
3. Tammy Wynette - Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad
4. Monster Bop (a comp by Buffalo Bop Recrods)
5. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
6. Hank Williams Sr. - The Lonesome Sound of...
7. Scorpions - Animal Magnetism
8. Agitation Free - Second
9. The Seeds - self-titled
10. Beck - Golden Feelings (not a "Studio album" as it was made in his room on a four-track but whatevs)
11. Budgie - self-titled
12. Queen - Queen II
13. Nirvana - I can't pick which album. either Nevermind or In Utero.
14. Gandalf - self-titled
15. Wavy Gravy Vol 1 (a trashy compilation or novelty songs and B-movie trailers)

A few bands that everyone is surprised to find out you don't like and don't listen to most (if not all) of their music:

I really don't listen to anything that is new or modern. Only a special few modern bands sound good to me (Dungen, Animal Collective, Wooden Shjips, Quintron, Eagles of Death Metal, Bob Log III, and a couple others maybe) So yeah, majority of new music sounds like garbage to me. I guess that might be surprising to some folks...

I also do not like Willie Nelson, Tom Waits or Elvis Costello. Everyone seems to love these people but I find them irritating.

fun survey!!! thanks for making it!!

Have fun!
umm.. JerseyDevil.. just wanted to let you know I'm still working on this.. I'm going to post something cuz I think the idea is brilliant.. but due to the depth you're wanting... it's become a little like homework to me (which is not a bad thing.. so don't take it that way!!).. But I've worked on some possible initial excuses as to why my assignment is late:

1. My dog ate it... but wait.. I don't have a dog.. you do... so no.. it wasn't that..
2. My cat shredded it with her claws.. (silently shakes head) nope.. no cat.. so that wasn't it..
3. I was abducted by aliens and they confiscated my post... nope.. that didn't happen... at least I don't think so.. but would I remember if it did?!! hmm.. don't know.. but I think that wasn't it...

I've run out of excuses.. guess I better finish this.. this weekend?!!

Say something about your music interests that people would be really surprised to find out:

I don’t actually really like “live versions” of music. I don’t generally go to concerts. I don’t like all the people (crowds), and I don’t feel I need to see the artists perform their songs. It’s the rare musician who can match the quality (sound wise) that you get from a studio recording. One of the few groups (I personally) find is an exception to this is the group Rush & Trans-Siberian Orchestra. However, I’ve never been to a Rush concert.. I’m just going on what I’ve heard from Live recording on youtube. (shrugs) I have been to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert before, and would go again.. I would just need earplugs. When I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra I was unprepared. I thought my ears were going to bleed. Great show.. just too darn loud!!!

Can you play any of the songs you've listed on an instrument?

I don’t play any instruments. I would however love to be coordinated enough to be a percussionist, or play piano.

Christmas is coming in less than 2 months. When Christmas comes around, do you love hearing all the Christmas music, or can you not stand it?

I love many Christmas songs. I just try and block out the religious aspects of some of them..
Some of my favorite ones are:

- Carol of the Bells (Trans-Siberian Orchestra does a good version of this)
- Wizards in Winter - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
- Oh Holy Night
- Greensleeves

(probably several others I can’t think of right now). I do think they start Christmas music way too soon. I’d like to hear it maybe a week before?

A few songs you completely hate and cannot stand to listen to:

- I kissed a girl and I like it - Katy Perry youtube.com/watch?v=nknGM8Re-8o
- UB40 - Red Red Whine youtube.com/watch?v=4gaixi53gOg
- Rupert Holmes – Escape/The Pina Colada Song youtube.com/watch?v=HohpvGeLw70

15 Studio albums that you love the most and are your absolute favorites. Try to limit yourself to no more than 3 of your favorite artists' albums, but it isn't a requirement  : I don’t really buy albums anymore, or at least it’s been a really long time since I did! But here are a few I remember I liked:

Andy Gibb - Shadow Dancing
Elton John – Madman Across the Water
Styx - Paradise Theater
Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want
Carole King - Tapestry
Stlyistics – Greatest Hits
Carly Simon - The Best of Carly Simon
Eagles – Hotel California

A few bands that everyone is surprised to find out you don't like or listen to most (if not all) of their music:

Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis and if really pressed for an answer.. I’m gonna go with Elvis!
