I suffered from IBS a few years ago and it was a pain in the ass.
The symptoms came and went but when I shifted to a high protein / low carb diet (not in an extreme way, more a shift in emphasis) this ended the problem permanently.
So, I'd say - high protein / low carb may help. But, more generally, experiment with what you eat & drink. Try to notice what helps / what makes things worse. I seem to recall that, for many people, coffee and alcohol tend to trigger the symptoms. Also, that for some people mints can help.
