Why use W7 if you're running Gnome/KDE anyway? Why not go full linux? It seems very backwards to me.

Kind of. It was hard deciding if I was either a 5w4, 4w5, or 9w1 dominant. But through introspection and a thousand tests, I'm pretty much sure that I'm a 5w4 :)

I usually get 4w5 followed by 5w4 and 9w1 (or 1w9? I can't remember). I'm too sure how enneagrams work, but aren't 4w5 and 5w4 almost the same thing? It seems like the only different would be a slight lean towards one or the other, or are there other differences?

To me it all made sense when I saw how much information I was gathering and how lost I got in my search. I over analyzed. Also the reason I didn't go type 5 initially was because it is described as cold and more of a scientist. I actually feel a lot so that couldn't be me. I went over a few descriptions in books and then I noticed what I was doing, saw the description that most 5w4s mistype as 4w5s because in general type 5 is described as emotionally cold (which is 5w6). 5w4 is not emotionally cold and distant at all, more of an artist.

It was a eureka moment. Suddenly everything made sense. I over think things a lot.

I have an ATI video card...performance on KDE and Ubuntu's new unity......is...bad. Honestly I should have just bought an nvidia card. I was cheap and..didn't. ATI drivers aren't the best under windows..but under Linux they are worthless nowadays. Used to be the reverse. I use the gnome classic setup on my Debian installation. Works well enough..falsh is still slow.

1. Was it difficult figuring out that you were a 5w4 infp?

I mistyped as INTP at first after I took Hans Eysenck's Big Five test (and it gave me an MBTI equivalent), and then I finally realized that I was an INFP. I had known I was a Type 5 of some sort before all of that. I also slightly related to the Type 4's search for authenticity and uniqueness and decided on 5w4. "The Iconoclast" (the title prescribed for 5w4's) fits me quite well, as I am the type to be rebellious against authority and openly embrace progressive change and I am humanistic and empathetic while at the same time being a logical, rational, and curious person. I also get along really well with type 4's; my best friend is an obvious Type 4 ENFP, and her and I relate a lot and get along well.

2. Describe yourself a bit plz.

I'm withdrawn, cerebral, and very curious. I am always searching for new knowledge. The world is full of beauty, whether it would be watching the the sunset or appreciating the structural integrity of a mathematical formula. I seek to understand these things at an acutely masterful level. I am insecure when I feel incompetent and useless. A lot of people knowledgeable in the MBTI mistake me for an INTP, but that is far from the case.

However, I can also be warm, emotional, compassionate, empathetic, and humanistic. I care about the human condition and will do anything in my power to improve the lives of others. I am a revolutionary socialist and I am always fighting to stop discrimination, whether it be racism, sexism, or homophobia and to fight inequality and exploitation. I was born poor and my broken spirit has inspired me to help others in need.

I am nerdy and geeky. I play a lot of video games, and I used to play competitively for a DotA team before I decided to quit for personal reasons. I love RTS and RPG games in general. I hang around with a lot of NT types.

I am into the usual INFP interests of music, written creative composition, fictional prose, and artwork I enjoy all of these things, and I have participated in professional orchestras, but for analytical and scientific purposes rather than spiritual and emotional purposes, so I guess I can say that I am a competent musician. For example, I will analyze music and all the beats, speed, dynamics, articulation, and delivery rather than soak it in and absorb it in romantic delight.

However, I have been more into science, psychology, economics, and political science. I am drawn to the scientific method and empirical observation. I am skeptical and employ critical thinking constantly. I cringe when people are mindless and pseudo-scientific.

3. Want a cookie? <_< not the chocolate chipped one...that is MINE!

Of course, I want a cookie. That's okay. I like White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies better anyways. But be a good, humanistic and sharing 5w4 like you're supposed to be and share those damn chocolate chipped cookies or I will give you nasty papercuts in between the webs of your fingers and toes with my D&D player manual (just kidding).

I'm not completely sure that I am a 5w4, but I am pretty confident that 5 is my core type. I thought my type was 4w5 for a very long time, and one day I was arbitrarily reading through enneagram articles and while reading about 5 had a series of intense connections with what I was reading. And it didn't require any decoding, to fit personal situations into the motivations like I always had to do with type 4. It was all plain as day, just true.

Ironically, my main reason for not considering 5 as my core type is because (as already fearing being incompetent, or "stupid") I could never bring myself to identify with how intellectual and smart they are made out to be. Everything would be spot-on, and the word would pop up and just stop me dead in my tracks and put me off the trail. Calling myself intellectual just sounds pretentious.

Also, the one thing I never really related to on the 4 profile was feeling the need to be an individual! I am not sure what I was thinking. Probably that an INFP probably wouldn't be a 5.

My advice to anyone who is confused is to really look at the motivations versus the described behavior.

EDIT: Also, looking at the variant stackings for both types isn't a bad idea either.

Ah, thank you. I just read the 4w5 and 5w4 descriptions. I'm definitely 4w5. Every word of that description makes perfect sense to me, and I often switch between balanced and unbalanced.

EDIT: on second thought... I'm not so sure. 5 makes a lot of sense to me too. Oh well.

I'm typed as 5w6, but I'm still not so sure... I need to do more studying about it all, I don't think of myself as emotionally cold...I can be emotionally distant, but that's more of a self-defense mechanism than who I really am. Of course, even though I've always come up as an INFP, there have been multiple tests where I came out 51/49% F/T...so maybe I am a little emotionally stand-off'ish... *begins a whole new self-assessment* lol =p

BTW, it would be interesting to see KDE running as the shell for W7, if for no other reason than to see it done! lol

I don't much like ATI, their drivers have been really bad for quite a few years now...they actually got better when AMD purchased them IMO. I've been a Nvidia guy for years since I had several ATI cards burn up within 6 months..I didn't know there was such an issue with ATI cards and Linux though...probably since I haven't touched an ATI card in so long...lol =p

I could be a 5w4 but I think I'm 4w5. I could also be 6w5. Or 9w1.

Sometimes I think that I'm a 5 because I have a fear of being too incompetent for the world so I try to collect information as a way to distract myself and then I try to use that information to sort of show people that I do know stuff. The information is also a way for me to know more about the world. I am also an avid observer of everything. Sometimes people are surprised by the random stuff I know. I don't know if this is related to being a 5.

I can be like a 4 because I do tend to focus on how I am different and then I become sort of *shattered* when I find out that I'm not such a unique snowflake (but I suppose everyone is like that?). I find that when I am venting my frustrations, I often state how I think I am a deviant but not by choice and how I feel inadequate. I think that true individuality is being yourself and not simply being 'different'. And I often take pride in being called 'weird'.

blehhh I am probably 4w5. I hijacked your thread. Woops.
