Good morning (afternoon, or evening depending on where you are!) everyone.

I am a 39 year old INFP with an Enneagram of 7w6. I find myself in a very odd predicament of being introverted and fairly social. I spend a fair amount of time by myself, but I connect deeply to the friends I do make.

A good friend of mine was mad at me at one time, because she thought I was avoiding her. We were roommates for a little bit. I went through one of my prolonged introverted spells. I would go to work, come home, and spend all my free time in my room listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, writing, and reading. She sat me down one day in tears and asked me what she had done wrong. I had to explain to her that I go through these moments of just needing to be alone. It has lasted anywhere from 2 hours alone in nature, to a year of solitude.

People don't really understand, because I come off as social and extroverted. However, they don't realize that it is draining on me to be this way (even if it is fun, which is why seek out social interactions). I love to share my thoughts, feelings, and process things with my friends. I tend to have very cerebral friendships. I love to be a support to the friends I feel deeply for. However, if the friend becomes too draining (they have too many problems, or problems I am not equipped to handle) I will retreat from them to recoup. This has caused problems with friends who also form deep attachments. They are not used to me retreating, but being a steady source of support.

I have always been creative and love to write and photography. I studied psychology in school, but I never finished when I realized that I would have to get a Doctorate in order to do anything of consequence.

Anyway that is a little about me! I can't wait to dive into this place and meet all of you :p

ISTP waves back. Hi, I'm Elicit. Welcome to the forum, Catherin.

If you need any help with balancing you INFPness, you can probably check out the INFP forum for advice and venting buddies.

It's a bummer you didn't finish your degree in psychology, though I can understand why. You've come to the right forum, however. Most of us find it very interesting!
