You can post either pieces of writing we just love (always give credit where it's due if possible) and are inspired by and/or also I also hope to see some original writing here too.

This poem has been stuck in my head since high school and I love it and it's still inspiring to me.

Those Winter Sundays
Robert Hayden, 1913 - 1980

Sundays too my father got up early
and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,
then with cracked hands that ached
from labor in the weekday weather made
banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.

I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking.
When the rooms were warm, he’d call,
and slowly I would rise and dress,
fearing the chronic angers of that house,

Speaking indifferently to him,
who had driven out the cold
and polished my good shoes as well.
What did I know, what did I know
of love’s austere and lonely offices?

I used to have 2 friends who both didn't like any of my music-- except that they were both blown away by this song! Lets see if you guys like it. It's 90's... I don't know how 90's music strikes millennials...let me know.

Whose sticky hands are these
And what is this empty place
I could be happily lost
But for your face
Here stands an empty house
That used to be full of life
Now it's home for no one
And his wife
It's a hovel and

(Who)
Who can take your place
I can't face another day
And
(Who)
Who will shelter me
It's cold in here
Cover me

Under these fingertips
A strange body rolls and dips
I close my eyes
And you're here again
Later as day descends
I'll shout from my window
To anyone listening
I'm losing

(Who)
Who can take your place
I can't face another day
And
(Who)
Who will shelter me
It's cold in here
Cover me

Oh, in a plague of hateful questioning
Tap dancing every syllable from ear to ear
I hear the din of lovers jousting
When I'm hiding with my head to the wall
So

(Who)
Who will shelter me
It's cold in here.
