0. Is there anything that may affect the way you answer the questions? For example, a stressful time, mental illness, medications, special life circumstances? Other useful information includes sex, age, and current state of mind.

Valium. Male, 23, depressed. Depressive Disorder NOS, Anxicty Disorder NOS and Detachment Disorder NOS.

1. Click on this link: Flickr: Explore! Look at the random photo for about 30 seconds. Copy and paste it here, and write about your impression of it.

The picture is irrelevant, it's just a test.

2. You are with a group of people in a car, heading to a different town to see your favourite band/artist/musician. Suddenly, the car breaks down for an unknown reason in the middle of nowhere. What are your initial thoughts? What are your outward reactions?

No real outward reaction, if anything I would laugh. Thoughts would be can I fix it and if so what would I need and do I have it, if I can't fix it is there anyone in the car that could.

3. You somehow make it to the concert. The driver wants to go to the afterparty that was announced (and assure you they won't drink so they can drive back later). How do you feel about this party? What do you do?

Tell them I have no problem driving, they can drink if they want to. I don't drink and love to drive. I really don't know what I would do, depends on who I was with.

4. On the drive back, your friends are talking. A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward reaction? What do you outwardly say?

Outwardly:
Depends on the claim, try to understand their perspective on the belief if possible.

Inward:
Pretty much the same thing that I'm saying out loud, try to see the claim from their perspective.

5. What would you do if you actually saw/experienced something that clashes with your previous beliefs, experiences, and habits?

This is really vague, it depends.

6. What are some of your most important values? How did you come about determining them? How can they change?

Learning, fixing, creating, understanding. I learned that I like troubleshooting since I got a Windows 95 before I was in kindergarten.

7. a) What about your personality most distinguishes you from everyone else? b) If you could change one thing about you personality, what would it be? Why?

A. I can see things from pretty much any perspective, one of those people that could write a paper on why the Nazis were the good guys if I had a reason to write such a paper. Lots of emotional control, someone could have a lacerated artery and I would be getting materials together to make a tourniquet apposed to running around screaming and crying.

B. I think I have some level of misanthropy, I wish I could understand most people better.

8. How do you treat hunches or gut feelings? In what situations are they most often triggered?

I'll act on them if possible, can't do this while conducting a patient assessment for obvious reasons. Most of the time this happens when working out a problem.

9. a) What activities energize you most? b) What activities drain you most? Why?

A. Fixing a problem, I'm doing what I'm good at.

B. Having salved the problem, now I'm bored.

10. What do you repress about your outward behavior or internal thought process when around others? Why?

I lack political correctness, if politically correct terms came out in books yearly like an encyclopedia my book of politically correct terms would be back in 1999. I repress them because I'm not out to intentionally offend anyone.

My instinct is actually ISTP, although your function test seems to suggest stronger N preference. You sound reserved and practical-minded, looking for problems to solve and finding direct solutions. I don't really see signs of NT temperament here; rather than introspecting at length, you're quite concise and straightforward, and focused on practical details. It sounds like you're more interested in problems and solutions than underlying ideas and abstracts. Don't confuse being intelligent and methodical with being N over S; that's just part of T.

Also, you sound more like a quiet reactive introvert than an externally-oriented extrovert. You want to find problems to solve, but you don't seek to provoke people to get something started or bring to the surface the abstract things that your intuition is drawn to (ENTP). Is that fair to say? Also, because ISTP has tertiary Ni, it could be the case that you've developed it quite well. I'd be much more skeptical of you being a type with inferior N. Furthermore, your extreme preference of both thinking functions over feeling functions seems to go with inferior Fe, which is characterised by low apparent empathic response/affect and trouble understanding your emotions or the significance/value of their role in cognition.

You really don't sound like an INTJ to me, unless you're quite an odd case. Tertiary Fi is fairly strong in most INTJs I know, although they may take a while to understand/utilise it. You don't really talk in terms of driving values whereas INTJs tend to have underlying value judgements which inform the rigorous analysis and organisation (in the form of Ni-Te) that fundamentally characterise them. Another thing is that INTJs' Te means being systematic and seeking to control the situation you're in, to make it as orderly and efficient as possible. You sound like you're more comfortable going with the flow and correcting things as they come, doing your thinking/sorting/systematising introvertedly (strong Ti) rather than extrovertedly.

INTJs are more likely to dwell on something, explore it conceptually and develop a nuanced framework of understanding around it than actually practically get things done. Part of why we're more likely to give lengthy answers to questionnaires like these, because we want to explore how we think and feel about every concept involved, and make sure that we're thorough and explicit.

I hope that if I'm wrong and my observations aren't useful for pointing you in the right direction intentionally, they at least give you something to consider and maybe counterargue, perhaps inadvertently nudging you towards eventually finding a conclusion that makes sense.

You sound more entp to me. Nothing you said suggests Ni. You answers were a bit vague though.
Any specfic one, I could try to expand on it more. For #1 I only see the picture as a test, which is why I have a hard time expanding more on that.

Also wanted to than you both for your answers.

@Exquisitor

That was a really long answer and looks like you put some time into it, so I wanted to say that I'll get back to you. Right now I'm working on something else and it seems like I need to do some reading on cognitive functions. One part that I can give a response to now is...

It sounds like you're more interested in problems and solutions than underlying ideas and abstracts.
[This is written out very well but I'm so tired at this point I can only keep one eye open lol]

I'm one test away from being a nationally licensed EMT-B, I spent a long time working as a volunteer but I need money lol so I had to stop for a paid job, the reason why I haven't taken that test is I need to work with someone to get my spelling and grammar up to at least a high school level. The thing is when you are involved in EMS you NEED to write in a manner that must remain objective, for a lack of a better word. Because I'm so used to the required style it will cause me to come off much more practical than I really am. I'll come back and try to explain why I'm about as confident that I'm XNTX rather than ISTP. Just shortly after reading over the cognitive functions I'm really really looking at ENTJ now. When I'm reading type description I can relate to the description of ENTP the most and the type that test as comes back as INTJ every time. The type that I want to be the most like is an ENTP, but I'm really starting to think ENTJ.

I'd pretty much agree with @Exquisitor. If you're sure that you're a NT and not ISTP, INTP seems the only possibility. Your Ti preference over Te is omnipresent and your Fi is nonexistant which automatically eliminates xNTJ and strongly suggests IXTP.
I haven't read anything up there that can be interpreted as a proof of dominant Ne and your Fe lacks too much to be tertiary. This also eliminates ENTP. I still think ISTP is more likely because I cannot see enough Ne to be auxiliary and you seem more practical than the usual INTP.
I am tired and sick so excuse me if this post was concise - but I'll pinpoint specific examples to develop my explanations if I find time.

Well, I did base a fair few assumptions on that concise style, so I wouldn't be too surprised if more information makes me reconsider a lot. I'm definitely interested to hear when you're able to share more.

Right now I'm looking at ENTJ, could you tell my why that is not a good match

The weird thing with ISTP is I'm agreeing with many things that are used to described them. The problem is that it seems like "living in the moment" is the biggest defining trait, and that is NOT me. I think about long term outcomes much more than what's going on right now. But as I said going though a EMT program changed my writing style. I do relate very much to ISTP, I love problem solving but I also like exploring the possibilities, trying to find a better way of doing something not a tried and reliable way unless it's the only thing that I can do. I think that I have week sensing. I started to write this response and started out by asking why your posts were not showing up, I thought that you were someone else because you changed your avatar lol. Could just be because I'm tired.

Some people seem to find a way of using facial features to guess someones type, I'm not sure if that is a common thing but I see it a lot when I search for types on YouTube, if anyone is that type of person.. I think all it's showing is a lack of F but.. Here you go:

Also I understand that intuitive is some type of coveted trait. I don't really care about the whole sensing vs intuitive thing. It's just out of both I relate to intuitive much more than sensing. And out of all temperaments I relate a lot to NT with the exception of INTP.

Your pictures give off a real IXXP vibe. You look kind of awkward in them but you also don't look awkward enough to be an INTJ.

You're giving off more of an Ne and Ti vibe than Ni and Te. I would say ENTP, but I think this is because I generally tend to be biased towards Ne over Ti because of my personality type. I read over it again and your Ti is probably more dominant.

You also seem to be really mature, as I can definitely see some Si and Fe traits too as I read over it one more time. I'd say you tested as an INTJ because you're an INTP who's gotten his act together and learned to pull his weight and get organised. This has happened to my ISTP mum in the past. XD

So my hypothesis is this: You're a mature INTP, possibly with weak introversion and judging traits.

PS Sorry to intrude on the in-depth conversation you were having with Exquisitor. You posted this in the chatbox and I was bored. :) By all means continue that conversation because he looks like he knows what he's talking about.

I'm okay with anyone posting here, I want more people to post lol. I wish I had more content and intelligent things to say because it looks like he put some effort into post #3 lol. I'm just not that cought up on MBTI.

I think two people have said INTP now, I just can't relate, less so to the ISTP. I should read up more on INTP and watch some YouTube videos, somewhere that the description is easer to understand.

That's what I was going to say - I'm not really getting much Ne from the original post, but I do see enough Ti to be dominant. ISTP would be my guess too.

I do relate very much to ISTP, I love problem solving but I also like exploring the possibilities, trying to find a better way of doing something not a tried and reliable way unless it's the only thing that I can do. I think that I have week sensing.
My brother is an ISTP, smart as a whip, and also loves problem solving...and he would never, ever take the tried-and-true way unless it was the only way. It is one of the reasons he loves his current job: his boss is great about letting his employees find new procedures. My brother is all about experimentation to find a better way, improvising as he goes along, stuff like that. Also, he does space out frequently (being Ti dominant and an introvert, especially so), so it's not like he's present in the moment all the time.

BTW, a lot of intelligent SPs on this forum relate more to "intuition" than "sensing". I would highly recommend getting familiar with the Cognitive Functions (the cognitive functions forum on this website has some descriptions and further information). I can think of a handful of ISFPs and ISTPs here who initially mistyped as Ns and later typed as Ss after learning about the functions. S/N is just an awkward dichotomy.

I'm going to give it to you guys, at this time I agree with ISTP. Thank you for the time you put into this thread. Only part that's bugging me is "living in the moment" but there is just too much that I can find in common. I posted a thread over in the ISTP area to see what a mostly ISTP audience thinks but regardless of their response I think I'm going to stick with ISTP. Below is just how I fell about the four traits with the focus being on why I think I could argue for N and J and my inept understanding of them haha.

I wonder why every time I take the test it comes back as INTJ, even when I take it and chose to answers the questions the reflect how I would be feeling on a good day and bad day. And when I take the cognitive functions test it still comes back with both the intuitive functions in the top three. I read the responce by @RubberDuckDudette but I'm not INTP, not even open to it.

Judging vs Perceiving: I HATE when people are really late, if someone says that they are going to be somewhere at 11:00am and I end up just standing around for half an hour because they spontaneously wanted to get Burger King, there is nothing worse than that other than.. flakey people! I can't be friends with these people, doesn't matter how much I like other qualities about them I don't want to associate with these people. I'll be half an hour early before I'm late and the only thing that's going to make me miss an appointment, hangout or something similar would be serous illness, injury or death. So I was a little unsure about perceiving because of how important it is for me to be on time. But if I can I'll do things like homework at the last minute, and I have a 3.5-ish GPA.. Think it's 3.6 but it's been awhile since I checked and I just don't care for some reason don't really see it as relevant until I go back to grab my degree in "Math and Natural Sciences" of all things, I didn't pick it but from taking random classes I'm about three semesters from getting that specific degree. So I need to be on time but I procrastinate whenever I can get away with it. I'm structured, but in a way that makes sense to me and may not to people carrying around a pocket calender.

Intuitive vs Sensing: I don't live for the moment at all, at least I don't believe I do. When someone is acting weird I can typically figure out why by connecting things together in my head rather than through things like questions. I can see things from many different prospectives, I don't see right and wrong but what makes sense partially because of that. Pretty much every plan that I make has a long term goal in mind, I'm going to invest money in something that will be useful over a long amount of time or may not even be of any use or value until sometime in the future than go out and spend it right away. But I guess that would make anyone who go's to college and living with their parents apposed to getting a full time job an intuitive?

Introverted vs Extroverted: It's close, but I think I'm closer to introverted.. Thats about all I can say.

Thinking vs Feeling: It's thinking, the "gray area" is home, choices are made on what makes sense, I don't see right and wrong unless it's an extreme such as Pol Pot.

One thing that I did was think about movie characters that are typed as ISTP, and I can see some strong similarities. YouTube videos of people that are ISTP also helped a lot, seeing the type in action was significantly more helpful than reading about it. If my life was a movie, I would be the Han Solo/Boba Fett of that movie.. Off to the side until I have a reason to jump in the center of things, not the good guy nor bad guy just the guy who has something that he needs to do.

I was going to suggest to you some videos.
Although here is a quick simple one that really helps people with viewing ISTP in a better light.

Try not to think of the ISTP in only the stereotypical mechanic/daredevil form.

You give off a Ni vibe to me but I can also see Ti because that is usually the vibe I give off to people too.

I get INTJ very often on those MBTI tests and sometimes even INTP.
I believe it is because I have a well-developed Ni and it is not expected in those tests for an ISTP to have.

As an ISTP I am always thinking about what I am doing before I do it.
I'm not someone who jumps into things either and I'm also not someone who is constantly fixing things around my house.
I probably could figure out how to fix it but it's not some kind of an urge in me to do.
I don't know everything about cars and I do not cliff dive or whatever lol.
I'm in my head most of the time and reading up on anything I find interesting.
I mean sure I love the outdoors but I'm not out there hiking everyday and I'm not out there racing cars.
Although I do like cars a lot, it doesn't mean I'm always under my car fixing it either.

I could go on but I think you can understand my point.

I narrowed down ISTP for myself because basically there was no other type that fit all the functions that I use in such an order.
I know I'm a Ti dom and I also know I am a Sensor. So, ISTP was it.

I hope that came out right it's late and I have not slept yet lol.

@Loki Grim If you think you are an ISTP, then there's a 98% chance you're an ISTP. You know yourself way better than we ever will so stick with your gut. :D From what you've written it sounds to me like you're ISTP, too, although I'm really bad at typing S/N types in general so maybe you shouldn't listen to me... ;)

PS You might want to change your signature soon :p

PPS You do sound like Hans Solo, which in my opinion is really cool, and sadly someone I will probably never relate to. But oh well, I think ENFPs have the same personality as a cool jedi dude with a lightsaber. \_(o_o)_/

* Bump, one last time. I was going to post this here but I thought I should try this thread first.. That's why it may not look like a direct response the the few posts before this one. I'll respond to the posts to this thread in the morning, just too tired right now.

@Wytch

That is the guy that I was mostly watching, that's a cool coincidence. I've been having an easy time with separating out the stereotypical aspects of ISTP, but it's more hard to do with INTJ which I'm going to describe below.

Updated cognitive functions, the one's that used to be in my sig were a few years old.

ENTJ: I don't feel the need to be a leader, be in charge, be in the spot light ext.. I do try to think of ways that I can make money off whatever I happen to be reading about or making at the time. I don't see ads on Facebook, I see a spot where it's possible for me to make money.

INTJ: This one is tricky, the reason for that is because most information and descriptions seem to focus on how much of a genius these people are. There are also many people who are this type on YouTube that seem to be acting, over the top.. monotone, seriousness, empathize just how much of an INTJ they are, ext..

ISTP: I like to spend most of my time alone, few friends but really close to the group that I spend time with. Morally ambiguous, I just don't see right and wrong. Strong emotions make me feel unconformable. I feel the need to understand how things work, how to fix them, take them apart and put them back together.. hopefully better than they were to start with. I'm the person off to the side with specific skills, not the one leading the group. I don't have an issue with taking charge when needed, but it's not my preference.

ENTP: Fe in the #3 spot, enough said? Also I'm not near as outgoing as this type is described.

INTP: Nope.

Try not to go by tests alone or the percentage of how much you use each function.
That will drive you nuts.

These are my personal thoughts on the matter -
(So no one thinks I am saying this as a fact, it's just how I see it)

I would say you are either INTJ or ISTP, both types value logic a lot.
Ni-Te works very similar to Ti-Se which is why these two types can be confused for one another.

I would suggest trying to just figure out if you're a Sensor or an iNtuitive.

To keep it more simplified.
If an ISTP wants something they will go after it with less hesitation than an INTJ would.
ISTPs want to experience more outside of their head than an INTJ will.
Both will get there but the way and amount of time it will take them is different.

Both types are not big talkers unless they find an interesting topic (or person) to talk to.

However ISTPs may again be more forward when they like talking to someone.

Although both types can be extremely introverted, ISTPs will venture out a little more because of their Se.

I'm not saying every ISTP and every INTJ is this way because you have to take into account their Enneagrams too but... in general, that is how I see it.

Some more, stuff...

By @tigerlily
1-what makes you angry?
Repetitive people, the importance that people place on political correctness.

2-what do you like/dislike most about people?

I like people that I can relate to, someone there to bounce ideas off of. I don't like people that are very emotional, strong emotions make me feel unconformable even to the point of nausea. I'm talking about people that are generally hyper-emotional not people reacting to something that is actually serious.

3-do you like animals? why?
I would say that I'm indifferent towards animals, I have a pet dog that I care about but just in general I would not describe myself as an animal person at all.

4-what do you like most about the favorite people in your life?
They have known me for a long time, I can be myself around them.

5-what do you like/dislike most about yourself?

I'm smart, have a 3.5 GPA in college. I'm good at fixing problems, have had three different majors with all having problem salving being a required skill.. Psychology, Computer Science, EMS (I'll likely have my EMT-B license late December or January.) I'm only six classes from getting my degree in "Math and Natural Sciences" and I was not even aware that I was close to any type of degree until an academic counselor set up an Ed plan to get my finical aid reinstated six months ago, I was just taking random classes that I thought were fun at the college in an attempt to find something that I like.. that ended up being EMS which I did end up being very good at, at least in a classroom setting have no work experience at this time. I know what I like to do and I'm very good at the things I like.

I'm below advantage intelligence when it comes to social activities. I have a dark/gallows sense of humor. I'm a low volume person, I need to repeat what I say a lot of time. I feel like I could be doing more with my life, I'm lazy. I can't show that I care about people, I don't understand how to express emotions adequately. I'm insecure about my physical appearance (photos of me are below.) II NEED time alone, but I've spent so much time by myself I've become a little social inept probably due to spending too much time alone and never developed a good set of social skills which seem like something that could be valuable.

6-do you care about being fashionable? why/why not?

No: I like a minimalist style.. Black polo, black Dicky's, Work boots. If someone dose not like me because of that, then I don't want to know that person anyways. I like my style, I'm not going to change it for other people unless it was so bad that was only bringing me negative attention.

7-do you prefer to fit in or stand out?

Stand out: I'm not sure if this question is asking about personalty or fashion style, being that the question above was about fashion I'll assume that this question was about personalty. Right now we seem to be living in an extremely politically correct world where everything is offensive and I find that to be retarded. A lot of people are boring and predictable also, fallowing current trends to fit in socially. I want to stand out for who I am, not blind in with the bros.

8-what activities do you enjoy?

I'm a problem salver, I like broken things. I like my computer more when it's not working so I have something to fix, I like people telling me about their problems so I can think of ways that they can get past them. I enjoy understanding how things work even if I need to take them apart and put them back together. I enjoy being good at things I like to do such as troubleshooting problems. I like to spend time with a small and close group of friends, maybe a party but with about fifteen people there and not one with music blasting and everyone getting drunk and annoying. I don't drink because I just don't like it, so for me it can get pretty annoying to be in a home full of people who have each just gone through a six pack.

9-what makes you feel secure?

Having a good contingency plan in place.

10-do you like being in a relationship? why/why not?

Yes: I like being with someone that I like enough that I want to spend all my free time with, but I'm fine with one night stands or very close platonic relationships as well. A exclusive relationship would be my first choice tho, with approximately 7.3 billion people on this planet it's good to have someone to love and who loves you back. It not a top priority, but when I find someone I feel very lucky to have that person to share my life with.

11-what do you love and why? Could be people, things, places, etc...

Problem salving, learning, understanding people and how things work, being very good at things I like to do, ext...

12-what do you spend the most time thinking about?

The future, anything from how to start off my career in EMS once I get my license to where I want to retire when I'm an old person.

13-How much have you changed over the years? Who were you as a child?

I grew up in a very abusive household, I was diagnosed with PSTS at age 7. When I was younger I never really experienced emotions or even understood them and still don't the majority of the time. But when I was 7-18 years old I was aware that I didn't have a sense of morality holding me back while everyone else seemed to. I was close to a sociopath but grew out of it, my first girlfriend was the turning point.. she was not only my equal but someone that nearly meant more to me than myself.
