Broad question for broad answers.

Could you see it coming?

Had you seen it coming?

Did you do anything about it?

Could you do anything about it?

How do you feel about it?

Passive-Aggressive tenancies?

How do you prepare?

I saw myself being set up from afar like a while ago. Being the curious imbecile I was, I walked into their trap. I was curious what the trap looked like. So instead of instant death spikes, this was a net.

So I'm like.. okay.. I'm in a net... what comes next? it's all foggy all around. not totally dark. They're dropping snakes like its' raining. It could have always been raining snakes, but I didn't bother to pay attention.

Anyway. I've decided not to quit, sit this out, collect whatever severance package they have lined up... which may not apply if I get fired, but still not sure which direction it's going to play out... laid-off, fired, or terminated.

conjuring up possible courses of action as countdown clock has initiated and ticking.

Me: I want a raise.

Her: You're not scheduled for one this year.

Me: I'm paid in the bottom 5%. We made a lot of money this year. I was told I could work as many hours as I wanted and frequent raises. I make the same amount I've made the past three years in other positions. This is why I took this job.

Her: I'm sorry. Maybe next year.

Me: Forget it. I'm out of here.

Her: getting mad You are aware we're being sued, right?

Me: How would I know that?

Her: We're being sued. Do you want to rethink your position?

Me: Nope. I'm good.

Her: OK - sit tight. I'll be back with HR and some paper work. Don't leave this room.

3 hours later I was escorted out.

I was so angry the whole time I totally let logic fly out the window and made a rash decision without something else in place first.

I wasn't fired but I was asked to resign because I was unwilling to discuss my health problems with my boss at the time, who was being a nosy bitch.

"I'm having a bad reaction to some prescription medications."
"What kind of medications? What are you being treated for?"
"I don't believe that's any of your business."
"The management believes you should resign. It would be best for the office if we could have some continuity."
"My condition isn't permanent and it still isn't your business, legally."
"I would like for you to resign."
"Fine."

Haven't ever been fired/laid off/terminated before ... but if it was going to happen I probably wouldn't see it coming -- or maybe I would? If there's a difference in the way people act, if they hand me more/less projects in increasing/decreasing difficulty, I probably would notice. I'm a bit hypersensitive to the people around me ...because I'm slightly paranoid.

And if I did pick up on it, I'd apply for a job somewhere else then beat them to the punch.... or stick it out and cry in front of them so they feel guilty, either way, I would want to walk out the victor, just because.

Sounds like a bad environment for you, and a great time to find a better one. See if you can get back to them next week before it happens and say, "I found a better place to work."

That's the way I rolled out of one work environment that I didn't like. I truthfully told my old boss, "They need more help, and they pay better with better benefits. I can get you their number." He declined, but everyone understood the deal and was happy with the outcome.

I got laid off at the end of 2006. It was one of the best things that has ever happened to me, because management saved me the trouble of having to quit (which I was going to do in the next month or two anyways) and gave me a couple thousand dollars worth of severance pay which I otherwise wouldn't have gotten. My only regret about the situation is that I didn't get on unemployment for a while and use the situation to my advantage and figure out a way to get as far from there as possible, instead of just a few zip codes away.
