Hello,

I was thinking about how acurate the different personality tests are. My work colleage recently took the 41Q test and came out as ENTJ type. I read up about this type and found that she seem to match most of what it said but the part about being ambitious, career driven did not match her at all.

I know that I am only judging her from a work perspective, although I have socialised with her a couple of times outside work, so there may be other sides to her personality that I have not had chance to get to know.

This is what I make of her:

  • Loud
  • Energetic
  • Dramatic
  • Loves to go out partying
  • Immature for her age
  • Bossy
  • Thinks she is right all the time (very testing because I find myself wanting to correct her but I don't want to upset her)
  • Comes across as lazy or disinterested (at work)
  • Likes to be the centre of attention
  • Manipulative for example on facebook she will make some big announcement that everyone on her friends list can see and her close friends will comment questioning her and she will say "oh I better send you a private message to explain. I don't want nosy people knowing the details". So the rest of us are left intrigued wondering what this big thing is. Or rather I am left irritated that she made the big announcement just to get attention…
  • Does what she wants to do
  • Not interested in keeping up to date with changes to policies etc at work
  • Only interested in herself and her close friends
  • Very sentimental (carries photos of her family)
  • Talks about herself but indirectly - she'll relay conversations with her friends remembering what they said to her about her personality.
  • She doesn't go for long without a boyfriend and the relationships never works out because her boyfriends are "too controlling, telling me what to do and jealous of my other male friends."
  • Shows no sign of ambition (or not that I've noticed)
  • Happy to let others do her work for her
  • She can be very caring but this is mostly towards people she likes or is close to
  • Very flippant and dismissive
I know that a lot of the above may sound negative but I do get on with her most of the time and when she isn’t in a bad mood…she is a fun person to be around. (I’m sure the same can be said of me!)

I am interested in seeing whether you think she matches this personality type as I am rubbish at working what types people fit into.

Thanks!

Hello,
  • Loud
  • Energetic
  • Dramatic
Ok, so superficially an E. Or, these activities might drain her and she might have a natural preference for an I dominant function.

  • Loves to go out partying
  • Immature for her age
Not really what I think of when I think of NT, particularly NTJ.

  • Bossy
  • Thinks she is right all the time (very testing because I find myself wanting to correct her but I don't want to upset her)
This could be any type of J, in theory. Or, she just might be a stubborn member of any other type.

  • Comes across as lazy or disinterested (at work)
Again, not very NTJ. Even while some XNTJs might be lazy or disinterested, they know better than to show it at work, I would think. This is approaching MBTI in the most superficial manner, mind you.

Going just by type theory, this could be xSTP as much, if not more so than xNTJ.

  • Does what she wants to do
Could apply for xxTx in general.

  • Not interested in keeping up to date with changes to policies etc at work
I don't think this is very ExTJ in general. How do you know how to avoid, dodge, break, or follow the rules if you don't know what they are?

  • Only interested in herself and her close friends
Could be any T, or a poorly developed F.

  • Very sentimental (carries photos of her family)
See above.

Ok. Deal breaker. HOW could this be stereotypical xNTJ?

  • Happy to let others do her work for her
See above. If you want something done right, do it yourself.

  • She can be very caring but this is mostly towards people she likes or is close to
  • Very flippant and dismissive
I'm not sure that any of this was characteristic of an ENTJ, not specifically anyways. Please feel free to tell us more, though. I hope I was not too harsh.

From what I can glean from your description She is immature and very egocentric. She may have a mild form of histrionic personality disorder ( just a theory ) . I'm not convinced that she is an ENTJ , It would be good if she took different MBTI test.

Thanks for your input.

It would be interesting to see what the outcome would be if she did another test. Is it possible that because of her ego she may have answered the questions untruthfully and that's why she came out as ENTJ? I'm not sure if a different test would make much difference. Every time I do a test I come out as INFJ so it's possible she would come out as ENTJ.

More about her:

  • Complains a lot
  • Swears a lot (at work to the annoyance of some colleagues)
  • More interested in her social life than working
  • Impatient
  • She makes people aware that something dramatic is going on in her life but will not tell you what that dramatic thing is.
  • She cried at work once, but she wouldn't say why and I was quite sceptical at the time as to whether they were real tears. This didn't stop me from be compassionate towards her though.
  • She loves her friend’s children and said she really wants to have a baby, which for some reason worried me. I don't think she realises how much of a responsibility children are. It's easy enough to play with your friend’s kids and hand them back.
  • She complains that she doesn't even know how to cook for herself. She lives on her own so either she is living off ready meals or she is exaggerating about not being able to cook.
  • She exaggerates things
  • She is very lively and fun which can be nice sometimes because I can be very serious.
  • I've noticed that she is supportive of her friends but they do seem to be supporting her more than the other way round.
  • She can be volatile/moody for example she brings her bad moods to work where as I tend to keep ‘professional’ and keep my moods to myself when at work.
  • I've heard colleagues describe her as being very negative
Her reaction to her being and ENTP was: "Yep I'm bloody fantastic". At work she said career driven didn't sound like her. She thinks of herself as being 'carefree' sort of person that goes with flow.

My brother tests as an INTP and he can't stand her (my brother and I work in the same office).

Thanks for the additional info. I would go with EXXP, and certainly not an ENTJ. I dont think an ENTJ would have the patience to work with her.

My work-style is also minimalist. No clutter, no making friends, keep it professional.

Granted, I'm more toward the middle of the S-N axis than other ENTJs, but this probably applies for all xxTJs. TJs usually are less physically demonstrative than other types, have a more tidy appearance, give unfiltered feedback, and are more no-nonsense and get right to the point. All TJs, even the ESTJs, seem a little awkward with small-talk and excessive social niceties.

From what you've list as characteristics... THIS PERSON IS NOT AN ENTJ! And why would you even question this in your mind from these things? On the ENTJ's behalf, I'm insulted you think they are these party people that are emotional basket-cases, that are lazy and don't give a fuck about much. The only qualities that are possibly ENTJ would be in the beginning of the list... but like it was mentioned by someone else, this could be a number of different personalities. What makes you stereotype the ENTJ to try to fit this person?

I know several ENTJ's and your friend sounds nothing like one. A true ENTJ would probably be about ready to strangle this person. I'm guessing EXXP as well.

Excuse me? The list I gave was NOT a list of things I think ENTJ's are it is a list of traits my FRIEND has! I wasn't trying to to stereotype her at all thank you very much! And I certainly wasn't trying to insult you! She took the test and I read up a profile and thought ok some of it sounds like her but MOST of it did not. I would not have posted here QUETIONING her result if I thought that she in any way fitted this personality type.

I know looking back at my original post I put that she fitted most of of the ENTJ type but that was before I studied it some more.

She may be too immature to place. My husband has gotten ENTJ on a day that he was being very immature.
Thanks for your imput. She definitely comes across as immature...I just find it realy strange that she is 4 years old than me (i'm 22 she is 25) she lives on her own (I still live at home) I would have expected her to have grown up a bit by now :-|

There is no reason for her to grow up. She is getting what she wants. She is employed, she gets men and attention. Her behaviors are working for her. When it stops working then things will change.

Thanks for your input. That is a better way of looking at it. Yes it works for her but I can see how her behaviour is affecting others in quite a negative way for most of the time.

There is someone at work like that for me. Im much more mature then she is (and am therefore moving up in the company which she hates) and she is considerably older than me (she's 52 I'm 18) age really doesn't always have much to do with maturity.

Hehe 'Sir Care-a-lot' that's quite funny.

Don't worry I won't go around slandering about how I met an ENTJ who hurt my feelings...I'll go around telling everyone that Roman hurt my feelings...joke .

We are all individuals after all
