To all the ISTJ's out there...what gets you so motivated to do all the things you do, or have to do?

The job is still going to be there whether I choose to acknowledge it or not. Better to get it done and get it over (and done correctly) with than wait until the last second and try to do the flight of the bumblebee (and risk doing it poorly). This applies to work, school, running a house, etc.

At work, for the most part I am intrinsically motivated by the fact that it is my job to work so I do my job without complaint. When I do not feel motivated, I either take vacation for a week to get away and recharge or find some training that is work related and meets parts of my five year plan.

At home during my work week, I spend time recharging by reading or watching television after spending ten hours talking to people on the phone. I have such a wonderful job for an ISTJ. On the weekend, I do household stuff and relax which does not take much motivation.

I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and the satisfaction of a job well done. I also enjoy the feeling of order in my life.

well, motivation for things that I don't want to do, but have to do, comes from the fact that I will be able to RELAX and not have to worry about the chores piling up in the back of my mind!!.... unfortunately, there is usually always something to be getting done so relaxation doesn't happen as much as I would like, but getting things done at least eases my mind, and that is still enough motivation for me.

That's me 100%. That sense of delayed gratification that drives me to be proactive. Since last minute problems and changes are not something I want to have sneak up on me I get as much as I can done early, then if a problem arises I have time to deal with it instead of becoming overwhelmed. It's not a guarantee that something won't pop up last minute, but hey, I figure any opportunity to prevent chaos for myself later on is a plus. Score one for maintaining my sanity.

To be the most efficient, productive, and disciplined items of guilt in my mind, as they're very hard to do to perfection. The world gives me "A's" when I do that, and if not I did my best their is nothing to feel bad about.
