Is there a correlation between MBTI type and handwriting style?

I have read before that sloppy/hurried handwriting can be a sign of high intelligence, but I'm not sure if that was hogwash or not.

I'm just curious. I have pretty sloppy handwriting and always have, even when I tried to write cutsey in middle school, it still came out sloppy, lol. I just write so fast, trying to get it out of my head before I lose my train of thought,

What's your handwriting style? Do you believe your MBTI type has something to do with it? Your level of intelligence? Both? Neither?

My handwriting always got criticised for how messy it was lol. I think I do tend to write fast which might account for that; urgency of writing down a thought trumps neatness. I also always envied how rounded and neat everyone else's handwriting was as opposed to mine - kind of spiky, though with time it's combined with long/tall lines and narrow loops with a bit of a flourish. Despite having hated my own handwriting for a long time, I like it a lot now. I even get compliments from other people because it looks 'interesting and pretty'.

As for if I think that my MBTI and/or intelligence have anything to do with that. Hm. Not sure. Hadn't really thought about it much. Maybe, but I'm not convinced :'D

Mine is just sloppy, lol. Sometimes I have a hard time reading it. If I'm writing super fast, it's a mixture of cursive and non-cursive writing. And I also write somewhat big. I remember in elementary school, I was always getting in trouble for my penmanship. I would try to do better, but it just took too long to have to focus on my handwriting.

It used to be really sloppy ^^' And my letters do tend to be fairly tall/big, taking up more space than other people's, often enough. It's mostly cursive/flowing writing now, and they tend to space out much more when I write really fast.

My teachers would try to get me to write 'prettier' but I never managed. It just became smoother with time without consciously focusing on it. I do get the feeling that other people spent much more time on trying to make it pretty/legible. Once I started accepting that it didn't matter what it looked like as long as it was decipherable, there was a lot less pressure to make it look a certain way.

My mother still thinks my writing is messy as hell. She likes to keep it all clean, big and simple. She puts much more value on practicality than I do.

Ahh, good old misguiding internet studies. The statement, 'If you're intelligent, then you have a sloppy handwriting', means that you can have a sloppy handwriting and still not be intelligent. It's one of the most fundamental logical statements (of P -> Q). Respect logic, please.

PS just a passing mention: Since the statement can be false, the study itself is wrong. No necessity relationship can be set up either way. In other words, it's only a correlation. Modal logic may apply here (I don't have the energy to do that right now) but that won't be fun.

PPS I'm totally not saying this because my handwriting is fucking gorgeous.

My handwriting has been and im pretty sure always will be messy.
I've always just written as the words come to mind so my hand tries to keep up with my mind I guess. Back when I was in school and I needed to type a paper up I never attempted to structure it except maybe major sections. I would start on a part and free form it from my mind then maybe go back and make sure it was all right(90% of my posts on this site I end up editing at least once because I notice a spelling mistake after I post them).

My writing works the same way. Only time I really focus on how my writing looks is when I'm trying to make sure whoever is reading it gets the impression of it/me I want them to.

I'm also a lefty which some say has an effect.

I do respect logic. I didn't say I went on an internet research binge trying to find meaning to the statement. I merely said that I have seen it said previously and was unsure if it held any merit.

Furthermore, the statement is, "Sloppy handwriting can be a sign of high intelligence". Not, "If you're intelligent, then you have sloppy handwriting". The two statements are not one in the same.

You see, this is the kind of shit I can't put up with. Intelligent people are people too and they can be anywhere on the 'behavior' spectrum. Every intelligent individual is different. There are intelligent assholes just as there are nice intelligent people. You can't use anything as a reliable 'sign' of intelligence when there are just that many differences. The only reliable indicator of intelligence is to see how good a person is at what he/she does. But even that has its complexities in that every task puts a different cognitive load and hence the correlation coefficient will be different for each task.

In other words, I fail to see the point of this entire study or even the mention of it if I can't use it to achieve the end it promises me.

lol, I wasn't trying to find a sign of intelligence. I was just curious if there was a correlation between MBTI and handwriting. I tossed in the tidbit about sloppy handwriting/intelligence because it popped up in my head as I was typing this thread. I wasn't trying to get into a debate.

My handwriting is awful. It's very small, uneven, letters are too close together and resemble each other too often. I do write very fast, which is part of the problem, but even if I take my time and try to make it neat it's still pretty illegible and hideous. I often can't read it.

In middle school I had a few teachers threaten to fail me for handwriting alone(even though I did very well in every other aspect) and I've had employers make a big deal out of it before, though my handwriting never changed and I'm sure they were just bluffing.

I partly blame technology for making me lazy.

Well then, you've seen my handwriting. I know another ENTJ and his handwriting is, frankly, bad. Still though, there's no fun if you're not looking for a debate.

Sorry to disappoint you.

My handwriting is somewhat similar to yours, though.

Needs more pictures of people's handwriting.

Top is my handwriting when I'm rushed, like taking notes. Bottom is what it looks like if I'm able to take my time.

I'm 25M (INTP?).

I can have really pretty handwriting... but most of the time it's just legible haha. I have to write a lot of lesson reports for the classes that I teach and the longer I'm writing the sloppier it gets, I'm done caring. The other teachers tell me that "you can tell you're a great teacher just by your handwriting" and I GET SOOO CONFUSED BY THIS, like... HOW? They say that my handwriting communicates that I'm an easy going and caring teacher....? Maybe Japanese people also determine someone by their handwriting

I have always been told I have beautiful handwriting. Old style handwriting. I write in cursive, and I am left handed, therefore my writing is leaning almost too much to the left. I was told my hand writing looks like a old letter font people would write in Medieval times.

My hand writing can change by my mood. If I change personality (to the other person inside of me), his hand writing is very tiny and ugly.

I'm an ENTP and my handwriting starts off neat then gets progressively sloppy as I retain more and more thought about what I'm writing (and if I'm rushed, it looks absolutely horrid), kinda half cursive looking and italicized.

I was going to add on to one of my previous posts, but I guess I'm too late.

I haven't regularly handwritten anything in a few months though, so I'm a bit shaky. Plus, I usually like to hold on to the paper with my non-dominant hand, but I'm in a cast at the moment, so I couldn't really hold on to the note.

I think my handwriting has a tendency to look quite busy. Not sure why that is, exactly...maybe the letters are too close together or very small compared to the looping and upward/downward strokes.
