Hello lovely people, roud:

Just wondering if it's me or that the "mob" has conquered the internet to use as their personal channel for calling
out for "justice" ??

Nowadays I see these "posts" appear in which some apparent victim, has gathered "evidence" concerning the mishaps done unto them.

Only to post it to some Social Media hub and cry out for "justice" which in effect only turns out in a
"blinded by rage" mob of people who'll in turn repost and call out for more people to join the cause.

Seen it happening a few times now (especially with child related sex offenders) who according to the "mob" need
to be put down or worse.

Over here in the NL there been reported "incidents" of people who happen to have the same last name as someone
convicted of something horrible who received hate mail and worse.

Also if you speak up against "these people" (I don't want your "propaganda" on my time line) you're deemed equally repulsive or are a "F*CKED up" individual,who should watch his/her back at night.

Been there, Done that, laughed my *** off at the pretentious "keyboard heroes" who threatened me.
"Oh so you think you know something about me? I've just gotten your IP & MAC + a lot of other stuff you'd probably
don't want the world to know about, so want to go another round?" :laughing:

Now this "thread" isn't about "Right VS Wrong" or anything like it, just wondering if I'm the only one who sees this
apparent trend and worries about it.

I'm not an "criminal investigator" or anything and more then willing to help if I can "stop" crime with information if I
have any.
It's just that I think it's not my place to dispense "justice" when I as a person am not directly related/victim of, the crime.

It's just that I don't understand the "point of view" of the "mob" since they weren't the victim or anything.

Please share your thoughts on this, very curious to see what your views concerning this are.:kitteh:

By nature humans are very irrational creatures. Put a dose of raw emotion and false information, and you'll get chaos. It's very challenging to input reason and logic in society. Because a lot of people are not only not logical, but they refuse to listen to reason and be reasonable with dealing with issues.

Imagine how different modern day society if everyone respected themselves and others. I believe the world would be a much better place for everyone.

This has been happening before social media XD
Should just look into Groupthink or Crowdy Psychology on wiki for a framework of it.

Sometimes it can be quite concerning how much impact the social attitude of a vocal group can have depending on the context.
Can have people defending blatant criminals because they like the person for other reasons which somehow equates to the person being innocent or they vilify someone who hasn't yet been proven guilty.
I think a lot of people wrongly view vengeance as justice and can be discomforting to see how blood thirsty some people get.

One of the largest religious cults in the place where I was born started a social media campaign boycotting an international luxury hotel, because their "public service" TV channel was taken off the hotel's list.

"Public service" = broadcasting the occasional news/lifestyle show while showing off their latest medical/dental missions, or episodes of their leader's show where they reads bible verses and comments on national issues/criticizes homosexuals through his bigoted lens.

Their leader was also tried for rape eight years ago. His case is still pending at the national supreme court. b r i b e r y *cough*

I tried to learn more about their campaign/the purported banning of the cult's channel on the hotel's system, but none of their sources were able to provide objective information, or even post solid proof about the incident. What seemed to happen was that their leader called on all his followers to boycott the hotel, and everyone jumped on the bandwagon and started dissing the hotel on social media, without even seeing solid proof.

I feel bad for saying this, but it's funny because most of that cult's followers are rather poor/uneducated. So, even though they managed to trend on Twitter and trash the hotel's Facebook page with comments like "Look at this review that I found! It says your service sucks!" (Nope, it's actually great there and their food is superb), or "I'll never book a room at your hotel!" (of course. book with what money?), their opinion doesn't even matter because they aren't the market.

It's so hard to be an agnostic in this backward country.

This especially rings true for me, it's become so hard (if at all possible) to find objective information about the latest "hype"

Social media tends to get flooded with the rants of the "uninformed" that I'm not sure what channels to "listen to" any more since some of the more serious channels "listen" to these as well.

E.g. CNN posting twitter troll pictures about storms over NYC last year.

I know! It's dangerous to go out there unequipped with discernment. Two weeks ago, the second biggest television network here posted a news article on their website based on a story from /r/nosleep about someone's dead girlfriend's mysterious facebook messages, not knowing that it was fiction.

I haven't seen too much of this on social media, but I agree it is there. I tend to defriend people who use FB to try this stuff, and certainly those who try to sell me something (almost imploded after a spectacular argument with a anti-vaccination homeopathist who was a friend of a friend....). Thinking of getting out of FB altogether, and gave up Twitter aeons ago. Nasssty, precious.

Only use them as a personal birthday calender / information feed as of late, know the issue of getting in "fights" with "FB-friends of friends" :laughing:
