I'm a bit sleep deprived posting this.
Personality wise I'm somewhere between an INFP and an INTP. I suspect I would be more INFP, but I also have autism, which I think may have a factor. Either I am an INTP who developed the F as a way to adapt or I would be an INFP without the autism. Hard to know. Either way, when I take a test I get one or the other. INFP slightly more frequent. I can identify with both types depending on my mindset for the moment.


I've been up a lot researching personality stuff for my writing.
I desire to make believable characters.
I'm working on a series dealing with bug people.

I have a few questions.
One is is it even feasible to have an ENFJ type character serving in a military setting if the circumstances call for it? Like the colony he's in is under constant attack, and survival of the colony depends on having nearly every "major worker cast" serving in their army. I imagine the character's coping strategy (after recovering from alcoholism triggered by his first battle experience) is to dissociate and create an alter ego and act as that alter ego (an ESTJ/ENTJ) in battle. He makes up his own reasoning (by convincing himself the enemy is evil, based on some of their actions and treating his soldiers like they are his friends unless they cross him or "don't work up to their potential", then his ESTJ persona kicks in.) It hurts him to kill, but he does so. Resents himself, and suffers PTSD like symptoms.

I tried to research to find anyone who has served that is an ENFJ and well came up blank. I'm not surprised. But I do want to make my story believable, so I hope there is some realistic possibility.

We have to make up our "folk" right? I take it you like turtles or reptiles in general? I've been into bugs for as long as I can remember. Thanks for showing interest. I hope to eventually get something publishable, but it is in the early steps. I've gotten the general idea down, the key events, but not solidified how many books it will take to get from start to end. The characters kind of come to life in my mind and the stuff plays out like a movie. When I am writing I am trying to record what I see most of the time. Though now I've been focusing on starting over and making it read more like a series. (give it a narrator, structure, etc.)

As far as personalities went, I made up the characters first then tried to figure out their types. I like playing with the free tests and taking them as if I am that character to see what results I get. My soldier character tests out to be usually an ENFJ with occasional ENTJ/ESTJ results.

I did some reading about shadow functions and whatnot. Very interesting stuff. In my mind I can see it being possible for someone to take and develop other traits pulled out of that section as perhaps an adaptation or a type of "mask" to fit the situation. Especially if one of their natural functions was not supported or worse cause of abuse. (for my ENFJ soldier, it would be his bubbly friendliness really upset his parent figure (a soldier/ older colony member). He more less grew up the first half of his childhood believing to show feelings was a weakness...


When it comes to figuring myself out I'm a bit all over the place. I guess it would be no surprise my creations would be that way too. At work today I was wondering if I may not have an alternative J side to myself as well. At home, I am a bit disorganized and my place is cluttered. I procrastinate on projects, but when it comes to showing up to work and key events, I do everything in my power to show up on time. I get frustrated when others don't do the same.

At work (retail) I like my place neat and organized. I can't tolerate things out of place for long. Since my workplace also has a mini golf course and an indoor amusement park, I can be forced to deal with people more than I'd prefer, but overall I deal with it okay. Today being very busy I had to schedule people in certain time slots for the golf course and if they didn't arrive, then give their spot up to the next person/ group. It was daunting, and a bit awkward at times, but overall I was surprised that I could handle it well if I put my focus into it.
It was a bit soul crushing (though not really. Just more what to do to help them feel better knowing there's nothing more I can do?) at the end of the day to have to tell people "sorry we are booked up for the rest of the night. You can either come back tomorrow or wait and see if the next group doesn't show up. Or I'm sorry but there's already a group *points* waiting to see if the next group doesn't show up. After they get in, then maybe you will be able to if the next group doesn't show up..." Just when to cut it off though, because I can foresee issues down the line if I try to be too kind on that.

As far as tests go, I tend to get INFP/INTP ENTP also shows up as a lesser, but consistent 3rd or 4th place result.
