I have this professor this semester. He has a NO TOLERANCE policy on his syllabus for lateness or absences - this part doesnt really concern me because im good with punctuality and being in class. But it is interesting to me... because i think the same way he does on a lot of things, but i usually have a harder time enforcing things or voicing them. for him, it's really clear he has a "I won't tolerate your excuses or bullshit" kind of attitude. And he also expects you to understand him, without any explanations. For me (with the tables flipped), I find that I usually say what I expect, and briefly explain why. Whereas for him: he just says what it is and refers you to a website if you do not know what he is talking about. Everything is perfect down to the T in his writing style. He's concise, but he also doesnt really try to say much. He's very commanding i guess.. he's really intimidating. He lays out exactly what he will do to you if you fail to do something - so it's like you're out on the first warning. the syllabus seems to be basically a nice way of saying "be afraid. be very afraid. i warned you." With his syllabus, it's like he started writing it, but stopped. he says everything he needs to, but it's so impersonal. Sometimes he asks questions to the class, to things he knows the answers to, and people are intimidated to reply i think. the few times i did, i felt some vibes, that i cant quite put my finger on lol. but anyway which type is likely to give out a "don't bullshit me" kind of demeanor? in your guys' experiences?

EXTJ

The ENTJ might respect you for it if you actually bring a good argument of why you disagree with one of its policies.

The ESTJ, on the other hand, might be more intolerant of your complaining because his credentials should be more than enough for no one to question their logic.

I'd say definitely T and J for sure. He sounds like more of an E than an I, though sometimes that's hard to tell in a leadership role.

Don't know if I can distinguish between ESTJ and ENTJ in this case. If I had to guess, I'd say ESTJ, but like I said, he could be ISTJ, INTJ, ENTJ or ESTJ.

In general, I'd saying INTJ's put up with the least amount of bullshit. They can recognize it easily and seem to be easily angered.

Really? He sounds like an ESTx to me and REALLY resembles my ESTP history teacher, who happens to be a tightass about work deadlines and work and does NOT take excuses.

The only reason my history teacher has been nice is because he doesn't want to risk the class getting cut because of all the people eligible to take the class, there are only five people in it, and of the five, only three WANT to take it.

He finally yelled at us yesterday. FINALLY. I wondered where he would draw the line between being nice and being ridiculous, but yeah, he takes NO bullshit. No excuses, no late work, nothing less of perfection once he knows that we can handle it.

And yes, I'm absolutely sure that he's Se-dom. I used to think he was ENTJ but that's just his mature Ni coming out. His interests and possessions scream ESTP.

I can see your prof being ESTJ though.

So most people seem to be saying he is TJ. i don't know him that well either because he's guarded, but what i do know: he was also the director of another program when he was at another university. now he's starting off sorta new here. given his really young age, this seems like a huge thing to me.

when we have guest lecturers, he STANDS by one of the walls (side or back) and sort of oversees the room. its funny though because it's a HUGE class, and obviously tons of seats. ONE time, he sat against one of the walls on a chair, but he is usually somewhere observing the lecture from the periphery. He seems to like having his back to the wall (having nothing behind him).. i notice this in other settings i see him in too.

he always does a quick scan of the room, registering who's here mentally. and what's in the room. and registers things i dont even notice. i mean, i kinda notice SOME things, but they don't really register in MY mind unless i an making it a point to study or think about something i noticed. could be that im just in la la land and everyone else notices these things.

i swear, sometimes it's like he doesnt want a conversation. EX: something will remind him of something when he scanned the environment, and he'll kind of state his strong opinion on the matter, in a way that doesn't seem to invite any conversation. but then he'll share a personal story on the matter if i look kinda lost or confused at what just happened.

bad at communicating his interpretation of theory to us. it's all in his head, alright, but it has a tendency to get really abstracted when he's trying to explain it to us because it's so obvious to him.

Doesn't do polite, social etiquette things like "bless you" when someone sneezes or "how are you?" to start off a conversation.

Plays with things in his hand a lot while talking. pens. chalks. breaks chalk often.

Ironically, doesn't register someone when they come in late or leave early. he seems to be lost in theory, and rarely realizes when people move around?

Invites people to come to his office for discussion, "bring your classmates. the more the merrier."

INTJ in his hardass mode

Or at least I can make a lot of parallels to my INTJ acquaintance. He states things as facts because Te deems them logical, Fi he feels it is right thing, and Ni calculated it all out already. He totally blew off the ESTP one day, once again making declarative statements. He will often opt out from the group to do what he feels is right for him. He feels like separate unit from other people, very individualistic, very strong "I" focus. Sometimes acts like an outspoken leader, but at the same time I've seen him drop everything and retreat into shadows. Not too mannered for my Fe tastes. He plays with a pen or fiddles objects in hands a lot, especially when interacting with others - Ni-induced anxiety is a problem for INTJs same as us. This wanting to survey the whole I think is also a Ni thing.

oh yeah and another thing is that I think INTJs don't make good teachers
my father is one and loooong before I knew about MBTI test I thought he was very bad at teaching - possibly due to my complete lack of Te
he will explain the theory the way he understands it and not cater his explanations to way other people would understand the best - I am quite opposite in this sense in that I always try to cater explanation to way I think that other person would understand it best
he doesn't fiddle with a pen when speaking but he is very often drawing diagrams

haha thanks vel for your input.

what about this though, i feel like this might be Overseer attitude going on maybe:

hard to say - lots of professors like to oversee their class

probably same reason I like to sit at front of the bus so that I can see the road ahead, or sit in the very back of lecture room so that I can oversee the entire room - it is anticipatory behavior, when you're not very good at reacting to the moment so you try to grab the whole picture and see as far and as much as you possibly can

that he notices things you wouldn't notice, i dunno, what kind of things?

I'm with Vel on this.

I think there is probably Ni going on. Noticing thinks others don't yet missing people moving about (the physical), wanting to stand back and see the entire setting...but notable difficulty with expressing personal ideas, and when doing so getting really abstract.

I see things conclusion first due to Ni, and then find it very difficult to comunicate how I got to that for others...it's all in Filigeese, which is odd feelings, a sense of pull in a certain direction, coloures, images, connections to multiple, disperate, ideas...If I comunicate well, it is dispite myself.

I try extra hard to be clear about things as a result, but I can be overly abstract. I actually got given an award for my ability to come up with crazy metaphores when I left school, as a bit of a joke.

He sounds like he has the same problems I do, but handles it slightly differently (note how I also, always, include personal stories to aid understanding.)

I'd go with INTJ.
