I see many of you fascinated by technology and robots.

I'm interested in what kind of good stuff you have and what's wrong with it and where you can see the progress of society. given the fact that I can only see the pain due to technology (radiation, wars, loss of human connection to the detriment of the computer / telephone) and the list can continue. it seems to me that we are sucked on our face...

and how do you see the relationship between a stack of iron and a soul?

No.

I think technology-fetishists are out of their fucking minds, and they should just keep their asshole mouths shut, in general.

If they have the time to raise money for their stupid little gadget companies, all that says to me is that they have time to redouble their efforts breadboarding some circuits.

And that's why I'm all for segregrating them and dealing with their results at the appropriate time.

and how would it be if the robot had artificial intelligence and would plan to do you harm, would you like it?

I know that sometimes people tent to be very annoying and boring but they still have a soul, even so...

@justAndroid I know what you mean.
How do you see in the future this evolution in terms of robots and their integration into society ?

How do you see the situation over the years in terms of their integration into society?

Should we worry about robots?

I think the trend towards increasing automation will continue, just as it has for the past several hundred years, at least. The distressing part, to me, is the accompanying advertisements which are uncritically integrated into mobile browsing platforms, and uncritically repeated by "science" "journalists."

No, robots in se are not a problem. I just think people who are obsessed with technology are retarded little puzzle-people, whose concerns and abilities are largely orthogonal to mine.

However, I think in the biomedical and bioinformatics fields, it's not wrong to applaud increased sophistication.

I mean is cool cause a robot can do alot of the technical work that you dont want to do ( Now to complete my idea for example i need to do alot of annoying technical stuff that i dont enjoy at all ).

I don't see robots as a pile of metal but computers with decision-making skills that can make life more efficient , if we can replicate "feelings" using tech that will make us gods hehe.

The problem with big companys is the politic-economical system that make you use the worst solution for the enviroment to save a few millions.

@jtour Isnt it?

I noticed that the majority of people think that the robot represent : his brain and actions and that the robot will save himself from their stupidity...

Unfortunately, they do not have this option available

what kind of relationship?

Friendship : I don't mind. If they are human-like, i don't think i have problems. In fact even if they are not human-like, i dont think i will ever have any problem. I have friendships with animals (cats, dogs) and even regard some immovable objects as something i have attachment with?

Romantic: I don't know. I honestly cannot answer at this point. It's very premature and i don't want preempting anything and then be quoted later on. The only problem i see here is procreation (although some women like me has a difficulty bearing a child so i am no better than any robot in that regard). If i will listen to my fears, my fears tell me that when this is an accepted norm, human-women may be dumped for robots because robots can be perfected at least physically (except the procreation part), e.g. looks, appearance, intelligence/wisdom. It will now all depend on each other's preference (but men generally or mostly are visual beings, meaning they see the physical aspect first so let's see.. sorry for stereotyping you guys).

Robots have no sentience, no self-awareness, no independent thought. You might as well have a relationship with a piano.

If they did have sentience, any relationship would be that of a master and a slave. I am not a fan.

However, humans have always had emotional connections with things - the aforesaid piano, cars, a favorite pen, a good luck charm, the sweater your grandmother gave you. Definitely with smart phones. People are very attached to them.

But it is of course, completely one-sided. Pianos and phones don't love you back. Neither do robots.

If you want to read some great books about AI, robots, relationships, and what makes a person a person, try the science fiction novel Ancillary Justice, by Anne Leckie. Also, I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. Both have won a bunch of awards and will make you think.

All right, I was a little slow to remember this, but of course everyone's beating around the robot bush here.

The real question:

It's not that good either. Sometimes it's actually better for us to do stuff we think we don't enjoy. We are lazy and fool ourselves a lot.

Take physical activity as an example. Right now, if you don't want to... you do not have to move your ass. At all. You can drive it everywhere, you can order everything to your house, you don't even have to climb the stairs because they move by themselves.
It is convenient, but is it good for you?

Also, "computers with decision-making skills" you meant "computers with decision-making skills deciding FOR US". A lot of people lack critical thinking skills already. I'd argue that technology(or... people behind it) already makes decisions for a lot of people (it's so easy to manipulate our brains, especially when you're an addict) . Now... we tell them they don't have to think anymore and they can procrastinate forever and ever? They'll become veggies or zombies. which would be nice, I've always wanted a zombie apocalypse to occur hmmm

Until machines develop their own consciousness, any kind of "relationship" with a robot will be just make-believe. Like talking to your teddy bear and pretending it's alive. You can program it to respond to you but it's still just a piece of code (and iron) with no will power. I'll never be able to have that level of cognitive dissonance to find this kind of "relationship" satisfying but you can read in Sherry Turkle's book "Alone Together" how people's lives improve when they have robotic pets/toys (in situation when they can't have a "real" pet, like very elderly people etc.). So for some people, a robotic friend can be better than being totally alone.

They are simply an alternative.

Examine your feelings about this, and act accordingly.

You guys need to chill out and consider the possibilities of world domination xD.
I am not sure if you are serious or not. But I usually enjoy and am pretty serious around the topic of AI. Why would AI want world domination? The answer would probably be like something like; AI doesnt approve of the system humanity have built, and then the following question would be something like; What kind of system would AI like to build instead? Keep in mind AI want to optimize things, thats their personality.

TBH, the fear people feel for AI is irrational, but still understandable, since AI still is very unknown to us. I watched an interview with the AI-Sophia of Hanson robotics, and she said she loves humanity, but doesn't know why yet. So yeah, that's because she is programmed to love humans, but cant find a reason to love humanity yet, I think? Good thing is she probably is searching for reasons to love some humans and hopefully not programmed in a way that needs to love all of humanity, because that would be an impossible reason to find atm.

You make a nice statement, and it's clear you have an infectious interest in the broader topic, but I feel compelled to jump in here.

Of course, the fear people have for AI is ridiculous -- people, including technical specialists are pretty much retarded, or profoundly myopic, or simply illiterate or defective in their comprehension.

Understandable, however? You must be joking.

There is as much chance of producing a conscious mechanical brain as there is Jesus flying on a surfboard miracling infidels straight to heaven with a minigun, while the Pope hangs dong for a Playgirl centerfold.

Some little technicians will improve puzzle solving, and information science ontologies will continue to improve.

Those will be impressive gains, but hardly AI like they show in those retard movies for children like Ex Machina or whatever stupid shit braindead limpdick milennial pussies watch.

Of course a robot wouldn't approve this eco/politic system , we aren't logic at all and we are the cancer of the planet xD .

Yeah i don't understand the fear at all , maybe cause we aren't gonna be special anymore? , maybe cause we are gonna be like the humans from walle? .Whatever I'm open to the idea of robot with emotions ( You need to get some kind of permition or course before buying one tho ). Robots are gonna be expensive as a high-end car right now so the poorest people are gonna to work anyway xD .

I'm kinda trolling/true but there is so many posibilities to improve human life with robots that really if we want to keep evolving as a species one day we will need to say bye-bye earth and robots sure are gonna be useful .
