Hi! My name is Joanna, and I've known I was an INFJ for about a year. Out of the blue, I decided to do a bit more research about my type and ran across this site; I love it so far!
I'm a 22-year-old college student majoring in secondary math education and hoping to go on to obtain my master's in cybersecurity (unless I change my mind). I enjoy video games, rock shows, Dungeons & Dragons, my chihuahua Lola Montez, cooking, and poetry. Whoever you are, it's lovely to meet you!

Edited because the Newbie page said to attach pictures so you all can stare at me. Here you go!

Hi!
That request completed, I welcome you to PerC. We share interest in cooking and poetry, the first because I am caregiver, cook, shopper and clean-up person in my home, and poetry because as a lonely child I ran across Langston Hughes' poem -

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

That was second grade, 1947, and it was a message of hope. I Have never lost that hope. Tennyson, Scott, Wordsworth, Poe, Frost - the list is endless.
Visit around, make friends, learn a little , but mostly, have fun!

Lovely poem! I've liked Langston Hughes's work since a poetry class I took when I was still an English major. Thank you for the welcome! :)

I did not know until much later that Langston Hughes was the leader of the Harlem Renaissance. He was an accomplished writer and journalist. I can remember the feeling - an awakening - in Mrs. Cooper's second grade class, I had found a slim book in a pile in the back of the room. My first epiphany, I suppose. There is a lot more significance to the event. I remember the way the words looked on the paper aged paper, the aroma of school paste, old books, chalk dust and coal burning in the heater. I made no effort to memorize the poem, it just stayed with me -

I currently have a collection of short stories that I never bothered to return to my elementary school ever since I was in 3rd grade. I thought it was a nuisance back then (I wasn't very studious), but I'd like to revisit it someday.

I also don't think I remember my childhood that vividly. That's impressive that you remember that so well.

OldManRivers, that's absolutely beautiful, almost poetic itself in the way you described it. You write very well. Thank you for sharing a bit of your experience with me.

Memory like that, eidetic memory, usually needs a trigger - and "poetry" was that - another time, I may pick up an old musty spelling book and release a flood of related memory. My mother had such a memory, and my son also. It is not always welcome: it is semi amusing now, but I remember peeing in my pants in a public place - first grade. The memory comes with tactile, olfactory, auditory, emotional content. Some adult memories are not so pleasant.

@heartilly92

Welcome!

My undergrad was Secondary Education Communications: English, Drama, Speech. I got my masters in Computer Information Systems. I'm into pretty much everything you mentioned. I left teaching pretty quickly and work for a satellite network company at one of their data centers, so I know a few things about cyber security. I'm sure I'll be reading some thought-provoking posts from you soon!
