Similarities and differences in ESTJ's and ENTJ's?

What do you guys think the biggest Similarities and differences of ESTJ's and ENTJ's are? Do you think we get along well or do we hate each other.

The first time I took the MBTI I was an ESTJ, that was over two years ago. Since then I have taken it at least 20 time and always a ENTJ. But looking back I don't feel much different. I have been told I'm nicer but I don't know if that has anything to do with that. I'm also much more perspective about people and their motives. But that's pretty much it. What do you guys think?

I've made a thread about the similarities and differences between me (ESTJ) and my best friend (ENTJ).

Ehhh I don't act like your friend at all. Normally ENTJ's are the intimidating ones. Thanks for sharing but that was very specific. I was looking for more vague things.

I have no idea where you get your information from but please stop giving ENTJ's a bad image.

If anything, I really relate to WQ's friend and I am not intimidating at all. I am very diplomatic in the way I speak, and very laid back. People have described me as cool, calm and collected.

Where are you getting your information from?

First off you being a jerky know it all gives ENTJ's a worse name than I could even if I tried. I'm speaking from personal experience with ENTJ's. If you have such a problem with it then why not just ignore what I post! Okay? Great!

I have an ENTJ roommate and we get along very well. I have a lot of respect for her because she's intelligent and can get things done without me riding her ass the entire way. She's amazing at math and other abstract concepts like chemistry and calculus and things of that nature which I have no time for. She's responsible and helps me keep on top of things.

What is your definition of normal? How many ENTJ that you know? What makes you sure that they are ENTJs? You don't sounds like you know MBTI well enough, because you're very typist. Typical character that only shows up on people who doesn't know much about MBTI.

Hey, not everyone hates jerky.

I, for one, love this stuff- it's pretty awesome and it lasts for quite a while. Great for trips and snacking on the side too!

Hahah! Are you saying that I should partake in cannibalism and eat Troisi? Hummm.

Hm. You know, by the way, you might still be an ESTJ. Just putting that possibility out there.
I work with a guy who's an ENTJ and I've got to say that, even though there are some striking similarities, there are also some pretty distinct differences between the two types.

Here are some similarities and dissimilarities I've noticed at work:

SIMILARITIES
1) Both have a strong work ethic
2) Both value a hierarchical command structure
3) Both are reliable, diligent, honest, straightforward, and professional
4) Both can identify the best course of action, and can delegate effectively

DISSIMILARITIES
1) The ESTJ focuses on his/her individual work; the ENTJ is concerned with the group's progress
2) The ESTJ uses humor to "fin in" at work; the ENTJ uses humor to "stick out"
3) The ESTJ prefers logic-based solutions to problems; the ENTJ prefers to follow his/her "gut instinct"
4) The ESTJ's goal is to achieve greater responsibility/respect; the ENTJ's goal is to get more work done

Did you mean that the ENTJ uses humor to stand out or did you mean that as a result of his type of humor, the ENTJ stands out?

If it's the first, why do you think the ENTJ does so?

Also, what would you say are the differences in the style of humor of ESTJs and ENTJs?

To answer the first two questions, the ENTJ's style of humor is unique to the group and, to be honest, I think he understands that it's one of his strong points. When he's joking around, I can't be sure if he's milking it, or if he's just being funny. I think he uses his humor primarily because he likes the attention, but also because it gives him control of the conversation. He's not a "control freak," per se. Rather, I'd say he enjoys "guiding" the discussion.

In response to your third question, while I can't speak for every ESTJ's style of humor, I know my jokes are situational, witty, and/or stupid. (I've been told my humor is "awkward" by numerous people.) It's like a mixture of Michael Scott (from The Office) and a few of Michael Cera's characters. The ENTJ's humor, on the other hand, is direct, confrontational, and intentionally abrasive (all in a good way).

Hummm. I agree with everything but the last two. I also use humor to stand out!! I think that both the ESTJ's and the ENTJ's both use logic in problem solving. I think that maybe the ENTJ just uses logic and a gut instinct at the same time... That's kinda hard to explane.

I think that Both ENTJ's and ESTJ's both have goals to achieve greater responsibility and to get more work done. I think Both can multitask well. Anyways, good input!

Yep, I agree 100%. I do the same thing that you ENTJ friend does. We should never meet. It would be bad.

The discrepancies, in my experience, are based on the level of development of the auxiliary and tertiary functions. If you have an ESTJ with a well developed Ne, you can find yourself with a mess on your hands if they use it to further some of their xSxJ pursuits (mainly miscellaneous loyalties to society). Here is where you find your most vocal stereotypers and fanatics in the realm of ExTJs. They are also the ones who tend to unintentionally masquerade as ENTJs.

Now that the mildly insulting and technical part of the post is done, let me name some of the reasons why one of my closest friends is an ESTJ. Your average ESTJ can be surprisingly scatter brained, and very hard on themselves. I find the latter annoying, because I consider my mental disorganization critical mass. However, they do know how to organize those thoughts and get everything done, despite over committing themselves. I am impressed by this trait. You can also differentiate between the two based on the flexibility of their logic. ESTJs, IME, tend to answer to the facts, while we answer to what is most efficient (Often times they overlap, but sometimes they don't). They also keep us grounded with these facts when we begin to succumb to our Ni. However, I find ESTJs are more polarizing than ENTJs - people really do either love them or hate them. In short, a healthy ESTJ is one of an ENTJs best allies, and valuable to any organization.

How are they able to masquerade as ENTJs? Ne and Ni are very different in both thought patterns and execution style.

...Unless you mean, after taking one of those simple MBTI tests, due to their intuition being rather high, they think of themselves as ENTJ and thus, label themselves as such.

What I meant is that they are masquerading as far as labeling the mirror goes. IME, mistyped ESTJs with a strong Ne are the ones most likely to recall on a handful of events to interpret them as evidence for their ENTJ label. The issue of function analysis does not necessarily have to come in to play because once they have gathered the pieces of evidence, processed, and applied them, they can again use Ne to flesh out their already faulty logic.

Again, this only applies to about a handful of people with a particular functional development pattern. I would not say most of the ESTJs I have met fall into this category.

Is your work ethic terrible about things you find particularly important?
