Suggestions for the INFP forum?

5732 Views 110 Replies 22 Participants Last post by  Sily
Someone has brought it to my attention that some of the infps may have suggestions for the infp sub-forum. I read the thread asking for an infp moderator for the infp section ( http://personalitycafe.com/infp-forum-idealists/94125-infp-moderator-needed.html ), and I will run it by Happy. The reason I have asked him about it is because of the volume of infp threads, and activeness of the forum. It could be beneficial to have someone look over just it. Plus, its clear to me that many of you want an actual infp to oversee it.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Anything reasonable and within our power will be considered.

Dunno how possible it is, or what others would think, but what about a subforum within the INFP forum for "game-like" and longer-running threads? A place where you could find all the things like the music thread, the confessions thread, the "What are you listening to?", "What are you feeling?", "What song represents you at this moment?", the book thread, photos threads, the random thoughts and ideas one... blah, blah, blah, etc. I know a few of these are stickies already, but what if there was actually a subforum for threads of that type? Within that, the especially popular ones could still be stickied just as they are now, if people wanted that. Then the rest of the forum could be used primarily for all the other one-off/personal threads, ones about more in-depth topics, those that are likely to die after a short while, etc.

Just a thought. Possibly I'm being too neurotic about it, haha. I just know that another site where I used to be a moderator had something like that within another forum and it was a godsend. Made finding things so much easier.

The INFP forum...it's a big forum with so many good topics. It's almost like a forum on its own. Maybe some extra sections would be good to create order in chaos?

Thanks to Sily for bringing up the idea :)

The idea about "cleaning up the forum" makes me feel uneasy a little bit if you are talking about deleting stuff. But if that's not the intention, I think cleaning it up would be cool if we could organize it into user friendly categories. It's true that the INFPs have a huge variety of thread topics out there and they could be categorized into subareas so that when someone posts a new thread, it can go into its 'proper' subarea.
We could have areas like:
-INFP likes and dislikes
-advice needed for fellow INFP
-advice needed about fellow INFP for non-INFP
-compatibility
-INFP relationships
-loneliness, sadness, depression, suicide etc
-happiness or random thoughts
-INFP secrets
-INFPs in the media (music, movies, literature, whatever)

I don't know... I'm just coming up with these out of my ass here. :)
But something like that? Maybe even more streamlined so as not to overwhelm the posters with which category is the proper one for them to post in? Because I would hate if someone posted something and then a bunch of people said to them, "hey you posted that in the wrong subarea, you dork" or whatever, because that is just annoying and too rule-oriented.

So something that is organized but not too organized to where it feels overwhelming or daunting. ??

Hm. I doubt that's really a good idea. xNFx, sure, but not INFP.

I wouldn't assume that all INFPs necessarily relate well to each other to justify having an INFP mod overseeing everything in the INFP forum. It's far more important to have a mod (regardless of type) who understands basic principles of forum management/organization (e.g. accessibility, usability) and is willing to (diplomatically) negotiate with members when considering input.

Yup. Though I'd say xNFx for some sym-/empathy as an aid for diplomacy.

Why not an INFP? I understand why one would want someone who was an xNFx, and I don't have a problem with it being someone who's not an INFP... but why avoid an INFP specifically? Anyone who knows anything about both INFPs and has a decent knowledge of how forums run would be just fine for the job, whether they were an INFP or something else.

Well ^^

1) INFP's tend to decide through personal values (Fi). In the case of situations when 'unpopular' decisions need to be made, I doubt INFP's can/dare/will make a decision that is just, in a neutral, socially validated sense.
2) INFP's will be able to relate so well to other INFP's, to the point of being torn up between possibilities considering modding a forum. This makes decision making difficult and not a fun job. In general, anyone who performs a job they don't like will get tired of it. It's a turn off, rather than a stimulant.
I like the idea of several sub-areas, put forth by @ethylester.

Yeah, those are certainly good points. I guess, nonetheless, I kind of still like the idea of an INFP modding the forum. Maybe it's just because I think INFPs are such awesome people, haha. I'd want to have faith that one of us would do a good job of it.

But yes, decent points.

I do think INFP's are awesome people :D It is just that I think the modding job doesn't utilize the INFP's strengths in a way that is beneficial for all.

Woohoo, feel the INFP love! Hahaha. :) I've honestly never met such an awesome bunch of individuals -- all in one place -- who I can relate to so much before. Not to sound horribly narcissistic or anything, haha.

Anyway, thread derailing done. :p

We also need a thread for all the people to check in who changed their type without notice and never post here again. Don't forget to write, people. :p

Haha, yeah! xD I found a few ex-INFP's in the INFJ forum. Heh, who knows, I might become an ex-INFP in the nearby future, and such a thread would be a nice place to come say hello every now and then :D

Then again, even if I find out my type is not INFP, I'd frequent the INFP forums quite a lot. Usually it's full of awesome. :3

I dunno, I've modded another form for several years and if I do say so myself I'm pretty good, I tend to look at it from everyone's side even if the perpetrator(s) are people I like, and then I make my decisions; and I'm great at sensing and diffusing potentially tense situations.

HOWEVER, perhaps I'm not even INFP at all, this week I'm having another mini-identity crisis, wondering about my personality type...I got to looking at the functions (again) and started to wonder if I had it wrong all along. IDK IDK, this personality type stuff is heavy business. ;)

:D

Of course I could be wrong - I generalize and I theorize. But at the moment, yeah I'm not convinced that INFP would be the best suited for the job.

As a sidenote, I've always had the impression you weren't a 'typical' INFP - which you may interpret as a compliment, yes. ^^
