I've been trying to find something to help with the biggest weakness I have in regards to my 9;
- Fear of any significant changes/disruptions in their world
- Fear of having to exert themselves in any way, of leaving their comfortable patterns
- Fear of being forced by reality to deal with their problems

And this is what I've got:

Look around you and notice what is here. Is there something that needs to be done? Is there someone who needs to be attended to? What is important in this moment, in this place? Ask yourself what is keeping your from taking care of what needs to be taken care of.

Now that's tough, I'm uncomfortable just thinking about it =/

E9 brothers and sisters, do you relate? Can you do the exercise without cringing?

The challenge is to once a day for the next 4 weeks set aside 10-15 minutes of undistracted time to write down answers to each point in a private space and get real on why you're not taking care of them. The details of what you're not taking care of should not be shared, just the result of acknowledging them, and any action you want to take if you wish.

So anyone want to join me in completing this exercise daily for 4 weeks and see what impact it has?

Doesn't sound like much fun, but it could be useful for me. I need to get off my ass and get shit done. You can count me in.

Whoot. =)

My aim is less about getting productive tbh, and more about understanding what is at the crux of why I don't do certain things that need to be done so I can stop the habit earlier in future by understanding what my issue is, getting productive now will have an instant but short lived impact.

I've been kind of doing a lite version of it (ie. not as intense and structured as your exercise seems to be)...and now i'm on an extended disintegration :|
that whole taking away my insulation and facing everything head on is making me constantly nervous, jumpy, reactive and feel kind of shitty in general, although the worst is over and I can kind of feel it getting better (I hope *crosses fingers*).

It sounded hard when I created the thread and it sounded correct!!

I think maybe it's better to do on a less than daily basis, I'm sticking with it for now but it really is disarming.

On the good note I think I'm actually avoiding less than it felt like I was, and the reasons are creating a pattern for me which will give me some answers going forward.

This is a great idea! Just like @Kayness, I've been doing something about this too. I've just started using my phone calendar and have not missed important dates since then

I also have this on the wall right above my desk:

The "Ask yourself what is keeping your from taking care of what needs to be taken care of," part of it is what's challenging. Personally, I don't want to deal with it because it'll bring out a lot issues I have with myself. Particularly, my lack of commitment.

Nonetheless, count me in!

Hm... What are your goals? What are the roadblocks? You don't need to answer the questions if they're too intrusive.

It's everything that @Kayness indicated in her post. Being in a position where you don't allow yourself to retreat to the comfort of glossing over reality puts me on edge. I do believe that it's worth it but I need to find that balance between needing that comfort place and being upset about not making progress.

My aims aren't intrusive to talk about, quite simply there about recognising when I retreat from reality because it's unpleasant to me and understanding why, the why is a big thing because the first part will always be part of who I am, the control I have is over how big of an impact my avoidance is allowed to have and at what expense.

This is the worst, yet best, thread in existence. :tongue:

I like your to-do list @thepurpletheory... having a visual like that helps! I need to start using my planner more and prioritizing my life. I am letting too much slip by the wayside while pretending that I overwhelmed in just school work.

Anyway, tomorrow spring break will be over, and then I'll try to stick with.
