I said no to an emergency room visit weeks ago; no to the expense; no to the invasive, impersonal treatment; and yes to the possibility I might die at home, which I preferred to dying at the hospital, so my husband and I treated a bowel blockage the way a good GP with the resources would do in her/his office 'back in the old days' and I am recovering nicely.

I faced the terror, the pain, kept my resolve... and now my blood pressure, among other markers indicates I dodged one hell of a bullet, and I'm mending in a way I wouldn't have if I hadn't had the crisis:

Some really good stuff comes out of horrible situations. I'm grateful for this one.
