My self-preservation instinct is terrible, I need to figure out a way to develop it.

What would you recommend? Is there a book or something on it?

I don't know... *can* one improve an *instinct*? It seems unlikely...

But you can probably make conscious choices to shift your focus in areas.

Maybe start paying more attention to how you're physically feeling, how the environment around you might be affecting your mood, experiment with small changes to your environment or situation to see if it helps improve how you feel at all. Idk, I'm personally pretty adaptable and pay little attention to sensory things around me; my SP stuff comes out in different ways, like wanting to make sure I have enough of something, or make sure I always know an "escape route" in case one is needed (more figuratively than literally, lol).

For improving SP... One time I went hiking with three friends. I'm SP/SX, my best friend is SX/SP, and the other two were SO/SX and SX/SO. At some point we came across a more hidden, less-trodden trail that forked away from the main path, obscured by bushes and near the edge of hill. The two people with SP-last saw the opening and enthusiastically dove into it, disappearing behind the bushes (no double entendre intended). My SX/SP friend started heading in that direction, took a few steps into the trail and looked around without continuing. I just hung back entirely, blinking.

Not that I was entirely unwilling to go --- eventually after a moment I can usually shrug it off, and curiosity will take over, and I'll go explore. But I definitely have an immediate, instinctive response to "stop and scope out the scene" first in almost every situation. I don't know how you can possibly learn that if you don't have it.

Good point. Those are some good tips, I might need to start off small with something like a list. I am more like a wild animal generally.
