Here's the situation....

I enrolled in school in January, and we're entering our fourth week of classes. I found out after the second week that my classes are useless toward my major, a complete waste of my time, and I'm probably going to fail out of boredom.

I have until the end of the week to withdraw from school and get 30% of my student loans back. I'm on the basketball team as well and this is the last week of season. I'd like to finish the season but I'm not playing much(AT ALL) and my team is pretty subpar so it really doesn't matter to me... But still after the end of this week I get nothing back.

Of course I've asked my friends and family and they've all said, "Try and get help with the classes, don't give up, yada, yada, yada..." But I know in my heart there is no amount of help that's going to get me through these classes, and if I do decide to stay I'm ending the semester with straight f's(d's if i'm lucky). Either way they're not going to count towards shit and I'll have wasted time and brain cells.... oh yeah and another thing, my stepdad is my basketball coach. I'm sure it's going to be embarrassing that he "did me a favor" and let me on the team, then decided to I drop out of school. (He's a good guy though. I have no ill feelings toward him, but I can't say he will feel the same toward me after this)

To recap, here are my options:
A. Withdraw from school this week, feel the wrath of a huge support system for a short period. But at least I get 30% back.
B. Finish out the season, withdraw from school, feel the wrath of huge support system that feels used I went to school for a half of a basketball season and quit, and get no money back.
C. Finish out school and basketball season, wasting my time, brain cells, and money to get straight F's. But hey, at least the lectures will get put off a few months, and they'll be proud I tried.

I'm all for A at this point, but I thought I'd get some unbiased opinions. Can you help me out ladies and gents?

*If I do withdraw from school, I'm going to find a job and start repaying my student loans

You dont want to do it and its useless to do it. A waste of effort and energy.
So it Seems like you all ready made up your mind anyway and just want confirmation.

But you said that all the classes were useless to your major so are you planning on going to school somewhere else?

Try to make sure you have a job before you quit. You don't want to be out of work and out of school watching Jerry Springer all day. Also, dropping "all of your classes" sounds a bit extreme, this isn't necessarily an all or nothing thing. :)

I do have a job lined up, but how is it not an all or nothing thing?

Take a semester off if you can afford to. Get your head straight, then decide if you want to go back or not.
Took a year and a half off. this was my try at going back and I couldn't afford it this time.

I haven't made up my mind yet. There are 3 options there.

There should be another option. Is there a support system for student athletes at your school? Some counselors looking out for the athletes in the program and helping them with academic or personal problems? When I was on the faculty of a major university, the athletic department had such a system. I know because I had contact with the counselors when athletes were doing poorly in my classes and worked with them to help the student athletes get through the semester with passing grades. Again, I worked in a major university with leading Division 1 athletic programs. It didn't have the most sterling reputation for meeting academic standards for student athletes. But nevertheless, there was a support structure in place.

Even if your school does not have such a program, you can still talk to your coach or academic counselor about your difficulties. You can be honest. Tell someone at your school about your problems and see what they can do to support you.

While you are in school, please don't throw away the opportunity to pass the classes you are enrolled in. Even though they don't seem relevant to you, they have future value because they are credits toward a degree. If you can find a way to get through the semester, and then if you want to stop, at least you won't have all those Fs on your record with zero credit.
