An interesting iconic musician, Nine Inch Nails is his baby, and it is as twisted as he is
The music mostly focuses upon self destruction, depression, drug abuse, sex, loneliness.. You name a negative emotion, he probably has a song for it

What does this forum think his type is? He doesn't think very highly of himself, and his heavy/near suicidal drug addiction suggests he went through some severe trauma, but I can't seem to find any evidence of this

Anyway, enjoy some classic NiN to elaborate my point (song for every negative emotion)

I believe Trent Reznor is an Fi user and unquestionably an introvert, so it's possible. I've seen an INTJ typing, which is also possible. I can't say I know enough about him personally, apart from his music, to make the distinction.

I find that NiN was the one example of musicians NOT bowing to what the industry heads want.. Reznor was not for the pop, upbeat catchy generic shit with meaningless lyrics, most music today is rather generic and made for the sake of being made, rather than pursue an artistic, objective or spiritual meaning.... Most, if not all of his songs hold a deep personal meaning that is well open to interpretation.. If I'm honest, many songs I like from NiN revolve around depression/self destruction, and even suicide..

Plus when Cornell died, it hit many musicians hard.. RIP

That's why Fi makes sense for him, and he was never showy as a musician, like ISFPs who are often into bright, elaborate costumes and videos. The Downward Spiral album is the dark night of the soul in album form, in my mind.

Personally I think he is INFJ. It would be between INFP and INFJ and I don't think he is a perceiver.

He seems to be aware of what everyone else is doing and critiquing them (for fun), unlike an INFP, who is more focused on their own art and expressing themselves. I'd imagine an INFP musician only critiquing someone else out of boredom or to pretend to be controversial, when really they don't actually give a shit.

He fits into the INFJ artist more (think Marilyn Manson) than INFP (think Kurt Cobain, Ian Curtis)
