Okay guys, I had this idea for an OC, which I may end up writing into a webcomic or not. Anyway I'm sort of bored, so if you have any MBTI related thoughts about my OC, feel free to share if you want. More specifically what type you think she may be and why. It isn't a fully formed idea but I have been mulling it over in my head on and off for a while now.

OC was born to parents who were caught up in a conspiracy that threated them and their loved ones. They tried to lay low and raise OC in a normal life, safe from the people hunting them. But eventually they were found out and had to go on the run. While on the run they dashed into a casino. While they were inside the casino the bad guys shot a girl that looked like OC mistakenly as she was standing right next to her dopleganger. The random girl's parents witnessed the event. Later OC's parents loose track of her in the casino. As OC wonders around lost she bumps into the parents of the girl who was just shot. They see that OC looks like their daughter and feel she is partly responsible for their daughter's death, so they take her home and pretend that she is their daughter. The bad guys at first assume they shot the right girl and take away her body to study, and clean up any evidence. They also cover up the incident and manipulate the authorities of that town.

The OC's new "parents", if you could even call them that treat the OC like their own deceased daughter and expect her to behave exactly like her. But OC has a birth mark on the back of her neck that their own daughter didn't have. Every time they see it they react very negatively and become cruel to her for the next little while. Eventually they go back to normal and never mention it again. If OC ever tries to bring up anything that is different between her their former daughter they immediately shut her down/don't respond to it, if she kept pushing they would have the same reaction as they did to seeing her birthmark. They mostly neglected OC to go gambling and partying, leaving her home alone as much often. When OC was younger they would lock her in a toddler pen in the living room and leave, then come back every few hours to feed her/let her go to the wash room. They would do this for a few days then stay home for a while. The first time they left her home alone for more than a few hours was when she was seven, they left for a whole day only coming back late in the night when she had already fallen asleep. They would leave her for longer and longer periods of time as she got older. They were also alcoholics and drank a lot, when they were drunk they wouldn't even be responsive to her they mainly just strung out on the couch. When they were drunk they would be very verbally abusive to her but they were usually too drunk to do something to her physically. She once took a sip from a bottle of beer out of curiosity whe she was maybe 9 or 10 and immediately spit it out becuase of the taste, and never touched any booze from then on. Even when they were not drunk or out doing something they didn't really care for the OC, they barely took care of her basic needs barely making her a microwave dinner it only if she really complained. They didn't help her with anything like bathing when she was younger or any of that. They often help fancy dinner parties to try and boost their social status, but would look OC in her room during them and not allow her to come out until it was over, they often lasted hours. They are middle class parents and often had kind of semi negative reputation in the community, they would be avoided if people had the opportunity, but would be helped if other people had to.

As she got older she eventually gained a very negative reputation in the community, with rumors about her sleeping around and doing drugs and such. These rumors were totally untrue she would never touch drugs or booze because of the influence it had on her parents. She does not sleep around either, in fact she has never had a boyfriend or dated. She is a loner and mostly sticks to her self and is quite shy and reserved. Most people avoid her and think she is weird/troubled. Her parents come to resent her even more whe she is a teen and begins to gain a negative reputation, which they believe makes them look bad in the eyes of the community.

At the beginning of the series she is 17 and just ran away from her town, because she was falsely accused of robbing someplace and she heard rumors that the police were planning to arrest her soon.

Hmm, most of this is about her background, which normally wouldn't be too helpful in figuring out her MBTI type. That said, this backstory indicates she's probably got some trauma that would interfere with any typing as well (likely why she appears weird/troubled as well? I mean, it would be very reasonable for her to troubled after all of that. Somebody call child services).

If I had to guess a type, ISFP. She is a loner that sticks to herself, she's run away from town without any plan or preplanning, and she has not indicated a rebellious streak. But it seems to me that you're created a construct designed to elicit the audience's sympathy rather than a character with personality traits, so there isn't a lot to go on yet.

@atruebluescreen yeah I kinda think your right, I guess I was pretty focused on the character's background, but I suppose I think of background as an important part of ones personality, but I guess less MBTI. I wasn't sure where to put it, I guess maybe general might have been better, but it almost seems a bit too random for this, I don't know. I guess I did have some more ideas on her character, but was really concerned with getting the backstory out there. I think she is quite independent and knows how to take care of herself. She has trust issues and is hesitant to be emotional and loving towards others. She's pretty guarded with her emotions and doesn't like to show them much. I'm not sure if these characteristics are a result of MBTI or her upbringing though. Before the whole incident at the casino though she was pretty trusting and sweet as a little girl. Also I think she is troubled by her new parents trying to make her into an image of their dead daughter. Don't know if any of this helps people type her, but yeah. Looking back at my ideas for her,I can kind of see that she could be an ISFP. Which makes sense as I am an INFP and I guess perhaps it comes naturally to me to write an Fi Dom.

Also just for funzies anyone wanna guess the type of her alcoholic new "parents". I didn't really have MBTI types in mind when I thought of them just sort of thought them up.

hehe yes, I think it's easiest for authors to put a bit of themselves into a character, and IxFP coming naturally to an INFP makes sense to me. I think at the initial stages of growing your character, you don't want to type them so as not to box them in--it may be better to try writing prompts or fill out quizzes, or think about 'what would my character do if...?' scenarios. After you get a certain feel for them, then you can type them to see if there are other aspects that your character should have that you haven't thought of yet. Have you ever looked on nanowrimo.org? I think you will find lots of interest and kindred spirits there :) Good luck with your story!

I would actually go as far as to say it is very difficult for someone to write a character of a type that is vastly different from theirs. It is natural for someone's work to have characters of types similar to theirs, I think. Not to say a very skilled writer can't do that, but I wouldn't beat myself for not being able to write a proper ESTP character or something.
