Types that marry young

Is it just me, or does it seem like SJ's tend to get married and have kids at a young age (18-21)? And then on the total opposite end of the spectrum, it seems like NT's wait until they're mid twenties or older.

Just something I've observed among my friends and was wondering if anybody else has noticed similar trends. I'm not sure about SP's and NF's. My sample size is lacking lol

Noper, I know of almost all types marrying young. It's more of a maturity issue than anything.

Think of it another way...SJs gotta marry some type. Surely all of the SJs you know marrying young aren't just marrying other SJs...
Yeah, idk if this has anything to do with type at all, I just found it to be an interesting correlation among my peers and cohorts :D
It seems that it would be J types as a whole - they don't have as many problems with binding decisions as Ps do. Although that's based on strictly theory since none of my peers are close to marriage yet.

Js might marry younger than Ps just because they need that outside structure more and are also more used to making decisions - and marriage is a big decision to make and it does provide some outside structure for your personal life.
I think that'd be hard to determine, even if you generalize. There are many reasons why one might marry young or wait.
Types that are more subject to needing societal approval might be prone to young marriage too. There still seems to be general notion that a person has not "grown up" until they have gotten married and had kids.

That's assumings they're marrying close in age to themselves though. Maybe they're marrying older people:tongue:

As for personal experience, My SJ dad married at 21 to my SJ mom who was 25. My SJ friend married at 27. I'm an NF who married at 23. My SP husband was 27 at the time. I'm not sure if that's helpful or not, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I got married at 24 (met her at age 20).

Marrying young for me doubled my household income and as a result, my assets (I bought a house rather than renting with a roommate like most of my college friends).

It also allowed me to focus on career than finding and dating girls ($$$) and putting up with their drama. My friends go out 3 days a week hunting for girls - that's a lot of time and money wasted. Additionally, there are tax benefits in putting married status.

These are just the side perks that I considered when marrying somewhat young - not the primary reasons. I just thought I'd mention them because they are probably less common. I just found way more reasons to get married than not to get married once I found the right girl. A better question would be... if you found the right person at a young, but mature age (educated, employed, etc), why not? What are you waiting for? Its wasted time... I could be building an empire rather than playing around chasing girls.

Romantic, I know. What can I say... I believe in chivalry.

Heh, I didn't feel grown up even after I married and had kids -- and I'm still not sure I'm there yet

I married at 28 to my then-27 year old ENFP. I was 29 when I had my first baby, so yeah the theory doesn't really work for us (apart from my P husband marrying a bit older)

No one (except people considered trailer trash and failures, wrongly I'd say but that's another matter) gets married at 18-21 where I'm from. Usually 25...sometimes 30. You could argue that is not good for society...I think the kids are more likely to be healthy if you have them at a younger age...but to do it any other way simply does not make economic sense.

As for my type, we're all aware of the 40 year old in their mother's basement stereotype...

The only other INFP I know was in her 30s before she married. I read in an MBTTI book that INFPs are the most likely to never marry and often marry later in life if they do marry.
SJ's are very tradition driven a lot of the time.

But most often this tradition stems from religion, so it really has nothing to do with type and more to do with religious differences.

you could say that SJ's are less likely to want to defy certain traditions, but that's it.

not sure it has anything to do with type - but i like your idea.

i would agree that if any type, SJs seem to marry younger... sometimes due to religious convictions.

im an INFJ and I'll probably get married late, if at all. im 25 now and not really ready, although i doubt ive found the right person yet - so who knows what ill say when i do :)

You stole a topic that I was thinking of mentioning.

From what I've seen, I think if you did a poll on type and age you got married I would still bet money that SJs would be in the most likely to marry in their early twenties or late teens because they NEED that sense of security. Of course, this is not all.

From what I've seen... I do not know of an SP around my age married yet -- and they don't seem to plan on it until they are later in age because they "live in the moment" so much.

I know of a few ENFJs that got married early to mid-twenties with there spouses being about the same ages or a few years older. The one ENFJ friend of mine got married at 24 and her husband is like 27ish... I'm pretty sure he's an NT - I'd guess INTJ or ENTJ from talking to him.

From what I've observed in regard to NFs, it seems the dominant feeler ones are more likely to get married first -- so the ENFJs and INFPs because of their drive to take care of somebody.

Yes, you do need to talk into consideration who is marrying the SJ's but I'm immediately thinking... ok, if two people get married at 21 then wouldn't it be likely they're both SJs? Now, in another situation perhaps where an NT marries an SJ, for example, I would guess the chances of the NF being a bit older and than the SJ would be more likely.

Yeah I'm going to be 24 in a few months and the thought of marriage just freaks me out -- definitely not ready for that. Plus, any guy that I know I would want to marry would not consider marriage until their late 20s maybe early 30s.
However, I would like to be pregnant with first kid by like 30ish just for health reasons (since there is more pregnancy problems at older ages).

Based on where I am now in life and what I want to do in the mean time, my hypothesis is that I'll get married around 27, give or take.

I'm not too much of an INFJ am I??

Here is what I have personally witnessed:

ISTJ: 24
INFJ: 29
ISFJ: 24
ISFJ: 21
INTP: 26
ISTJ: 21
ESFJ: 28
ISTP: 28 and not married yet

Me personally? I'm really in doubt that it will ever happen, but it's not something I've put a deadline on. I don't think it's emotionally healthy to have a deadline set for an issue like this. I mean I could say I want to married by the time I'm 25, but what if every girl I date between now and then is a loser? I refuse to marry someone I only sort of like just so I can say "I was married by the time I was 25". And I have to agree with whoever said it was a maturity issue.

SP and SJ.. women. I've found SJ women trying to make their own before getting married.. or plan to get married at certain ages.

You know an ESFJ getting married at 28? One ESFJ I know was engaged at 19, but then got married to another guy at 22. The other ESFJ I know always has to be dating someone and is really gun-ho on marriage, but, personally, I hope she doesn't get married for QUITE a while.

My ESFJ close friend got married at 25. Before that she has always dated someone (even people she was definitely not interested in), and had been engaged twice. Type most likely to be in a relationship? She's also extremely religious.
