There's a thread in INTJ-ville that is basically a "What type does this song remind you of"
I posted:
My own type: ENFP I could probably find different songs for the different functions any day.
Overall feeling:
(Ne)
(Fi)---
(Te)
Si-- always hard to detect for me, so Fi-Si it is:

Thank you for this! I've actually been meaning to make a thread like this for a very long time. I could just never pin down the right 'theme' like 'collages'... and I always forgot to do it. All of my choices will be Ne heavy rather than function related... it's our versions of these functions.

General feeling (although a little on the ESFP side too)
"I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined / I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned"

Ne. The fantasies, the childishness, the romance, what happens before your more sensible judging functions kick in? Excited over the possibilities, at least this is very much my brand of Ne.
"Imagine we had it all / You could hold the thunder / In your hands /And you'd catch me when I fall / Catch me when nothing / Goes to plan", "And we'll leave the world behind / And we'll be impossible to find / So come look for me when / We play hide and seek"

The advice from Fi.
"I'm sure everything will end up alright / You may win or lose / But to be yourself is all that you can do"

Te deciding to take action with a little Ne inspiration and breaking from Ne anxiety.
"Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there / With open arms and open eyes"

Here's my response to inferior Si, holding on to the nostalgia, not wanting to change but still keeping that Ne-childlike attitude.
"We can stay forever young", "And we're never gonna change", "Here's to never growing up!"

That's such a great idea ! I'm not sure how to identify the separated functions though

Ne (but Ne + Ti. Math rock in general seems really Ne-Ti to me) :

Fi (more in the ISFP side) :

Fi (INFP) :

Si :

An overall ENFPish song (well maybe more the music video than the song itself, and I don't know, it energizes me)

ENFP general feeling of where I am at, no lyrics but it's a progressive piece of music. It's one giant metaphorical journey that summarises my life so far

---

Ne
Everything is beautiful....Maybe I will follow you forever....

Fi
Lyrics at the end of the song are in my signature. The constant change of internal emotions for me displayed in the quick change from monster to nice sprite..

Te
And it's a long way forward, so trust in me
I'll give them shelter, like you've done for me

Si
I remember running to the sea
The burning houses and the trees
I remember running to the sea
Alone and blinded by the fear

You can't tell me that this song isn't Ne.

And I heard you say, "Here's the line"/ I just can't keep these feet of mine / From running just to see what they can find

Let's take a little time to just daydream / Slip from under the mainstream / View of Paradise / Close your eyes, let your mind take flight / Maybe you'll learn to fly / Singing with me

It looks like ENFP's have fantastic taste in music ;)

One song, a bizarre one, that when I heard it, I felt like I was listening to my own spirit. It was in fact put on the Voyager Golden Record and sent into space. Chosen by astronomer Carl Sagan;

You'll probably burst out laughing when you hear it, but, trust me....

Is this Albanian? Or where? Baltic? If so, I didn't realize they had bagpipe type instruments, did know that a "drone" is part of their music. Do you know? =)

I tend to be drawn to songs that are self-reflective and hit on these universal nuanced feelings and manages to somehow capture the essence of them... which is really hard to do. I find that to be something Fi-users a good at and what Fi-users oftentimes have to do in order to be able to articulate what they're weighing and just why something is so significant.

Anyways, I like listening to Dar William's song After All for this reason... She's kind of writing about her personal journey through depression and I feel like she captures it so beautifully in a uniquely Fi-ish way. The lyrics to me are amazing. Here they are:

"Go ahead push your luck
Find out how much love the world can hold
Once upon a time I had control and reined my soul in tight
Well the whole truth
Is like the story of a wave unfurled
But I held the evil of the world
So I stopped the tide
Froze it up from inside

And it felt like -

A winter machine that you go through and then
You catch your breath and winter starts again
And everyone else is spring bound
But when I chose to live

There was no joy it's just a line I crossed
I wasn't worth the pain my death would cost
So I was not lost or found
And if I was to sleep

I knew my family had more truth to tell
And so I traveled down a whispering well
To know myself through them
Growing up my mom had a room full of books
And hid away in there

Her father raging down a spiral stair
Till he found someone most days his son
And sometimes I think my father, too, is a refugee
I know they tried to keep their pain from me
They could not see what it was for
But now I'm sleeping fine

Sometimes the truth is like a second chance
I am the daughter of a great romance
And they are the children of the war

Well the sun rose -

With so many colors it nearly broke my heart
It worked me over like a work of art
And I was apart of all that
So go ahead push your luck

Say what it is you gotta say to me
We will push on into that mystery
And it will push right back
And there are worse things than that
'cause for every price and every penance that I could think of

It's better to have fallen in love
Than never to have fallen at all
'cause when you live in a world
Well it gets in to who you thought you'd be
And now I laugh at how the world changed me
I think life chose me
After all."

And I think an ENFP song totally full of Ne as well as Fi is probably John Lennon's "Imagine"... Can't get more ENFP than that. Talk about your idealist.

Except I would say it's INFP, instead of ENFP. Fi before Ne since John Lennon was definitely a Fi-dom.

I get in moods where all I want is this song forever and I wish Jeff and Liz had had their affair for years and years.. and all their music could be leaked to us.... She wrote Rilkean Heart for him (On The Cocteau Twins Milk and Kisses album). I think some people were fans of the poet? These two are fans. Jeff's INFP according to Ai and I. I think Liz is ISFP. /shrug So this song is Fi, I guess.

Now I'm just enjoying sharing my music with my ENFPs.

Song: American Dreaming
Band: Dead Can Dance

I need my conscience to keep watch over me
To protect me from myself
So I can wear honesty like a crown on my head
When I walk into the promised land
We've been too long American dreaming
And I think we've all lost the way
Forlorn somnambulistic maniacal in the dark
I'm in love with an American girl
Though she's my best friend
I love her surreptitious smile
That hides the pain within her
And we'll go dancing in the rings of laughter
And live along by the shores
Yeah-ee, on the lea the rising wind blows
Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows
How long how long?
we've left behind
Turned back…

This was recorded live. If you ever get to watch their video of "Towards the Within" Its like a journey.
