I am an animal lover, as well as, being close to nature. Animals are used as symbols. I have noticed that some people here use animals as their avatars & many don't. I am just curious as to what animals you all identify with.

I identify with cats the most for many reasons...The top reason is that they are extremely loving & independant at the same time. Next comes the Zebra for me; they all look the same. If you look more closely, they each carry their stripes differently.

Hmm I identify with cats for the same reasons you do. I also like their playful and curious attitude.

I like and identify with Cougars for their elusiveness, grace and strength.

As for other animals....hmmm does a dinosaur count? I identify with an Ankylosaurus haha! I love its armour and clubbed tail.

Dog- They are loyal and they have a very protective side which I value.
Bear- Bears are strong and they have strong presence wherever they go.
Wolf- Wolves are territorial and they have the ability to hunt in packs or independently (lone wolf).

For me the animal I most admire and wish to emulate is definitely the sloth. As for why, here is an excerpt from Yann Martel's Life of Pi:

The three-toed sloth lives a peaceful, vegetarian life in perfect harmony with its environment. "A good-natured smile is forever on its own lips," reported Tirler (1966). I have seen that smile with my own eyes. I am not one given to projecting human traits and emotions onto animals, but many a time during that month in Brazil, looking up at sloths in repose, I felt I was in the presence of upside-down yogis deep in meditation or hermits deep in prayer, wise beings whose intense imaginative lives were beyond the reach of my scientific probing.
I did not include th full passage (which further details most my reasons for identifying with the sloth), but it can be found here, and is worth reading (as is the novel itself) if you have time.

I also identify with cats. I admire their independent natures.

I love animals, but I am personally against the notion of owning animals (even though it might be considered by many to be a more symbiotic relationship), whether they be pets, zoo residents, or circus animals. Just a weird little quirk of my personal philosophy. I think much of my distaste for pets stems from the fact that we seem to implicate certain animals in our general species-bias, while others are driven to extinction. Humans often seem to categorize; human, almost human, food, expendable/exploitable.

Albino deer, stingrays, whales..
I think that whenever someone is to choose a favorite animal, it is one that they do or wish to relate to.
A whale eh....thank goodness, one of my animals is a Ankylosaurus...but it still can't compare to your whale...

Cats in general: loyal & independent simultaneously, playful, curious, grace, strength, intelligence (yes, it is there), emotions (yes, they have them), calm & steady. Yes, I love their entire being dearly.

Funny you say Cougar. I call them Puma's. I had to think about that for a moment! They are my favorite wild cat! No, lie!

Yeppers, a dinosaur does count! The one you chose tells a lot about you.

I like the wolf too. Amongst theirselves they are very social too.

I agree about how humans categorize animals. I believe that each & every animal is intelligent in their own right. I believe that humans are not above animals, as well as, earth. Humans are animals.
